Hey Wally just FYI, when I put the T5 in my 66 Mustang coupe I ended up having to tilt the trans (top towards the driver) in order to not have to mess with the tunnel shift opening. With the trans vertical the trans had to be pushed off to the drivers side so the clutch cross shaft did not fit and the motor was crooked in the engine bay. I saw an 85 GT mustang on the rack and noticed Ford tilted the trans. I had my bell housing welded up so I could drill and tap 3 of the holes (one lined up with the original Ford top loader pattern). This allowed everything to line up. The cross shaft, engine mounts, drive line, radiator shroud and shifter. As a point of reference, a top loader has the shifter mounted to the left of the tail shaft center line.

I did notice that the transmission looks like it is leaning to one side. I hope I do not have to rotate it but sounds like your option to retap the bellhousing is the best option. I wonder if using an original bellhousing with adapter plate compensates for this issue?

@@68mustangrestoration34 I don't think so, That's what I have, original 67 bell housing with adapter plate I had to make. If it's tilted some you wisely got a mid 80's bell housing so you should be good to go.

@@donthompson2188 Ah, ok let me see today as I intend to install the motor and transmission into the car. Man, I would have thought with the adapter that would have been accounted for. Thank you for the update

Hey Wally! Are you a member of the Vintage Mustang Forum? Lots of great people on there! I'm pretty sure your videos would get a lot more views.

Glad you found it useful, by using the late model bell housing I could use a standard T5 and simply needed to install the clutch for adapter. (previous video)

I am doing a t5 conversion to my 66' Mustang. It currently has an I6, but I have the bell housing required for the t5. I purchased a conversion kit from Modern Drive Line, so I'll be making the conversion soon. Great video.

Good evening, hope all is well. What clutch kit did you ordered from Jegs?

part # 555-60090 - This is a kit containing clutch, pressure plate, throw out and alignment tool but although it is listed for an 86- 2001 it fits my flywheel "228-1628981"which is for a 63-79 so it should be the same if you are running an original flywheel but wanted to make you aware.

Hello Wally, what clutch throw out bearing did you use. The one from the kit I order have about inch gap between the clutch fork and bearing.
@68mustangrestoration34
@68mustangrestoration34 2 года назад
if you look at this video at 11:40 you will see only the forks of the clutch fork rest on the bearing. there is a gap between the bearing and the fork as it is only the tips of the fork that press in the center of the bearing. I assume you are talking about the gap from the bearing to the inside circumference of the fork. If not please let me know. I will get you the actual throw out bearing part number in a few minutes

The kit i purchased from jegs parts 555-60090 does not specify the throw out bearing. My questions to you are 1) does the bearing fit the input shaft and slide back and forth easily?? IF so I have to believe it is the correct one, as I said in other question from you there is a gap between the clutch fork and bearing as only the tips of the forks ride on the bearing. let me know if I am missing the point

Wich bell housing did you use for that??
@68mustangrestoration34
@68mustangrestoration34 2 года назад
i used a 397-M-6392-E bellhousing for a 1979-93 mustang. REMEMBER that is because I have a T5 world class from a 1985 mustang which has a shorter input shaft than a 1994 transmission. Please determine if you have a pre 94 transmission before ordering your bellhousing . I believe i describe this in part 1
