I´'m now going over step by step how I build my outboard bracket in fiberglass using composite core material. I walk you through my planning process, building a mould and finally the fiberglass work.
In this episode you will also see my swim platform taking shape and form and finally attached to the bracket.
In this series you get to follow me and my journey with my Smuggler 28 Cabin. I bought this boat in order to build a really fun, practical boat for me and my family. Everything is done from scratch: inboard/outboard conversion, custom bracket, custom hardtop and custom interior.

Great video. I'm looking to make a dive platform myself, and this has been very helpful. Thanks.

Nice job and good choice of material, but a small tip is to always start with at least one layer of 450gr carved carpet and air it well. This bites better and takes up any unevenness. And always finish with a chopped 450gr chopped to then be able to secure for continued lamination. The carved mat is easier to sand and get a nicer result, and it will be a smoother surface. If you are going to laminate against gelcoat, it may be good to lay three layers of 450gr chopped after the first mat has hardened so that the targeted mat does not give structure to the gelcoat.

Thank you! 🙏 I’ve not done much during this winter and the pace has been slower after getting her into the water last year. I do have lot of work to do, and I need to start recording again…

Great work, but I'm concerned about using divinicell foam boat in the transom that doesn't have particularly good compression. Which there will be lots of when the Motor is mounted. I greatly urhe you to remove all of the lowe density foam and replace it with hight density foam board such as coosa board

Hi and thanks for your concern! Divinycell comes in many different densities and this one is a very solid heavyweight one, bought directly from the manufacturer. It’s not be compared with sheets you use as lightweight core material in either places, and we buy in stores here in Sweden. But I agree with you that coosa board is even more sturdy, but this will work just fine with all the glasswork that’s been done.

Wow this is an amazing project I like how you fit the swim platform into the exsisting transome, I do however have a question , That being why the bracket does not show a rise as it transitions aft? I would think that it will alter the boats running attitude, ! againe super job ! very inspiring.

Thank you for your kind words @botoepfer8588 ! In my last project I bought a finished bracket from Segmo boats, which are usually used in these smuggler I/O conversions. That bracket did not have a rise, but I understand your question. At this point in time, when I’m a bit ahead of my channel with my project, I can guarantee you it’s working well… I’ll soon update the channel with more videos, but actual work on the boat has been prioritized.

Hi great video, but a couple questions...what kind of sika flex caulk did you use for the small radius? And did you wax the melamine before gelcoating?
@boatdevoted
@boatdevoted Год назад
Thanks! I use sikaflex 591, but in some cases I dont use sika at all. I just fill out the corners with thickened polyester, and sand it down so its not sharp. I dont like wax so put gelcoat and fiberglass directly on the surface and It works very well.

@8:10 Next time, wax the melamine board before applying the layers of fiberglass and the fiberglass will not stick so much. But, all in aii, great job!!

Thanks! I’ve used wax before, but with these melamine sheets it’s not necessary. The main reason why it’s stuck here is the sikaflex.

Looks great. What size outboard or outboards do you plan on using?

Something that is 4.2 L and starts with a “Y”, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves… 😊
