People find this ending underwhelming. I find it quite fitting. War shouldn't be glorified, specially because the Antares Confederacy glorified the future liberation wars of Ancient Earth, but then got smacked on the face when they realized that the terrans themselves didn't want to be liberated. Humans fought humans and the end result was a sour victory over a destroyed human society. The tone of this season matches the tone of the ending. And Antares has left their naivety behind. They have faced literal hell. They have seen what horrors war brings. And while they came out stronger, a part of them was broken by the end.

It reminds me of both Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Attack On Titan. Both present really bleak and cycular endings that portray war as the horrific truth it is, while also showing it's underlying prescense in the human condition. In the words of Yang Wenli, "The history of humanity is a history of conflict".
@GalacticArchive0
@GalacticArchive0 3 года назад
It's not underwhelming because war isn't being glorified or whatever. It's underwhelming because it feels like there's a lot of missed potential here, both within this episode, and this season as a whole. - The setup for this episode was extremely interesting. The Unbidden have invaded this universe, and the Screk (who are now a client race of Antares) were anticipating this for apparently thousands of years. Think about it. The possibilities are endless. How would the people of Antares react to this information (assuming it was not censored)? What about the other races of the galaxy? The fallen empire of the Ti-Zru has coincidentally also taken to the field. Since the Ti-Zru have a history of conflict with the Screk, perhaps they have tried to fill the power vacuum after their defeat? The explanations we do get for these events seem rather bland. - The UTP has been dissolved, only to have been replaced "by something even worse". It would have been interesting to know exactly what this meant. With the removal of the Screk, what are the motives of this new Terran Empire? How have they reacted to the Unbidden? Have they made any moves in the Galactic Community to seize power during this crisis? This video barely gives us any information, and what is given feels almost comically evil (use of child soldiers, scorched earth policy IN SPACE, ect). - The Antares Confederacy has been centralized into a new nation... yet throughout this season there was rarely any feeling of disunity. The only time when this was really explored was during Part Two, where there was controversy of going on the offensive during the war against the Anthorians (or Althonians). In almost every other instance, Antares' constituent nations and citizenry have seemingly been entirely supportive of any action the Confederacy makes. Thus, the payoff of finally uniting the nations of Antares into a new Commonwealth feels hollow. I understand that the nature of Stellaris makes portraying this rather difficult, but that's why these videos exist. I was more hyped for Stellaris Invicta Season 2 than I was for a lot of upcoming movies and shows, especially when the Antares Confederacy won the poll (a sharp contrast the GTU). Please realize this disappointment is coming from a place of investment and passion.

@@GalacticArchive0 I also agree that we should get more on the Greater Terran Empire; their motives and then desperate attempt to hold power, their pure Idealogy of effecientcy, all seems like a corrupt version of the Greater Terran Union. I expect a video exploring the GTE on its own; it's just got that much depth.
@diogene_s8032
@diogene_s8032 3 года назад
@@GalacticArchive0 from a worldbuilding point of view, you are right, there's lots of stuff that isn't told on this video, lots of mysteries yet to be explored. I for one, believe that while the season may be over, they will continue tu put out content about this galaxy in the same way they continued to put out content about the first season. After rewatching the video, I see where you are coming from, and I also see that the Templin Institute is probably limited in terms of stuff that they can put into a single video. In this video we got the endgame crisis and the completion of the Antares Confederacy's primordial objective. Maybe it would have been better if the video had had two parts but the Institute is going on break and maybe Marc had the pressure of putting out this video before that happened. I don't know.
@Reedstilt
@Reedstilt 3 года назад
@@GalacticArchive0 I have to agree with a lot of what you said. The Terrans come off as cartoonishly evil without any explanation for how and why they got that way, and the liberation of Earth feels tacked on, especially when you consider what happened in the streams. So details that could have been brought up, especially if the Liberation of Earth had been separate episode. 1) During the Unbidden War, the Terrans had been deep in a campaign against the Tauvarite (sp?) Empire, with an extragalactic gate on their border. The Terrans causally batted away any Unbidden incursion that came through their gate, but were too busy with their conquests to aid the galaxy at large. The whole "The Terran Empire are worse than the Screk" angle should have emphasized these conquests. The Screk conquered to create a means of defeating the Unbidden (and would have succeeded); the Terrans have no secret Greater Good motivations. Even if any of the Screk that fled to Terran space managed to inform the Terrans of their true purpose (before being killed), the Terrans didn't seem to take the purpose to heart. The galaxy burned during the Unbidden War and the Terrans were happily lighting as many fires as the Unbidden themselves were. They didn't care that the Unbidden were some great cosmic threat, just that they were competition that might interfere with their immediately goals of conquest. And after centuries as the puppets to alien masters, it kind of makes sense. They're out to prove that they no longer bound by any puppetmaster's strings. That their might is their own, not hand-me-down glory from the Ancients. If they did lead the charge against the Unbidden, they'd have just been doing what the Screk wanted in the first place - a puppet that keeps the show going after the strings have been cut. 2) Following the defeat of the Unbidden, there had been serious calls to go after the Ti-Zru rather than the Terrans next. The Ti-Zru were on the border of the Commonwealth, and during the Unbidden War were revealed to be slaving despots of the most hideous kind - stripping their slaves of their free will in a quite literal sense through genetic engineering. Not everyone was onboard with sending the fleets to the far side of the galaxy while monsters like that lurked on Antares' doorstep. The Prime Minister (ie, Marc) argued that the Ti-Zru hadn't acted aggressively toward Antares, had been instrumental in defeating the Unbidden, and still had an armada that dwarfed that of Antares or the Terrans. The time wasn't right to go against them, and the Commonwealth's focus should be on re-uniting humanity. As it stands, the Ti-Zru are the biggest dangling thread in this series. Hopefully they get mentioned in the Epilogue. 3) Antares owes its early victories in the Liberation War to the fact that most of the Terran fleets were still in Tauvarite territory. The tide started turning against Antares as those fleets returned; just like had happened during Operation Reyes. The Commonwealth had to bankrupt itself to maintain a fleet presence strong enough to hold the territory. Seriously, if the game had had to go on after that Antares would be have been in serious financial trouble, through scrapping several fleets and releasing a New Terran Republic as a vassal would have gone a long way to balancing the budget. 4) The last phase of the Liberation War saw the Terran High Command (represented by the Admiral that Marc had declared to be the canonical leader of the Terrans) fleeing to the Outer Rim in an absolutely massive fleet. The High Command Fleet was able to re-take several systems that had been liberated by the Beldross-led front of the Liberation War. With the Beldross-offensive collapsing, the Commonwealth was forced to hunt the High Command Fleet down to prevent them from launching a counter-offensive into the Terran core later, but the fleet apparently had some new experimental drive system (might have been using Jump Drives, might have been glitching, or Marc might just have been bad at keeping track of its location) that hindered the Commonwealth's ability to pin it down. The final confrontation happened when the a smaller Antares fleet happened to enter the same system as the High Command Fleet at the same time. The High Command fleet pretty much spanned the entire system, but was a bit of a paper tiger. With the Commonwealth seizing Terran core systems, the High Command Fleet had been unable to resupply and was running on limited power reserves (the Terrans were probably as bankrupt as the Commonwealth was at this point). The Commonwealth fleet was able to tear through nearest Terran ships before those on the far side of the system even knew they were under attack. The Commonwealth fleet managed to chew through the surprised and disoriented Terran fleet, which was too spread out in the system to effectively counter the attack.

Same. I wanna know if all the secret communications between the UTP and Antares were in good faith, or if it was always their plan to use the AC to do away with their Alien overlords. Maybe some genuinely thought they’d be able to reunite with AC as equals, but were caught up in the power vacuum caused by the surrender of the Screk, and they wanted revenge that the AC wouldn’t allow them to do upon their defeated foes. These are some of the dimensions that I’d like to explore.

“My fellow citizens. I stand before you this day upon the ancestral homeworld of our Federation’s founders to reflect on what has lead us to here. It has been a long and harrowing journey, but it bares repeating. When first we learned the fate of Earth, our Confederacy strove ever forward. All obstacles we overcame, each challenge we met undaunted, and every sacrifice made without hesitation. Has helped to shape us in ways our predecessors could scarily have imagined a few short centuries ago. Waiting for us was not the blue marble of legend, nor the smiling faces of our long distant kin. For that was a phantasm of a desperate and homesick people. The Vid-pics and stories of Old Earth we were raised with since birth, became a knife in our hearts. Since the launch of the Earheart Flotilla, Earth became a twisted parody. Its people, a dark reflection of ourselves, the United Terran Protectorate. Those left behind had languishing under oppression. Their identities and history stripped away. Their cities and great works worn as jewelry by tyrants or reduced to atoms. With the best of intentions, we offered our wayward brethren our friendship, and full support in the liberation of Earth. We fought together, from without and within, against the Screk. Taking the Screk homeworld for the generations of enslavement by their hands. But when the dust settled, our victory became our greatest nightmare. All we had fought for was lost in a single act of betrayal. The UTP was no more and in its place a new monster stood at our backs with weapons bared. The Greater Terran Empire was unleashed upon the Galaxy. Guilt had blinded us to the threat they posed. For in their malice they knew no bounds. They did not stop after claiming vengeance upon their former masters. They would visit the same cruel brutality on any who would oppose them. Whether in pride or ignorance, we played part in unleashing this new evil upon the Galaxy. The likes of which had not been seen since before the coming of the Unbidden. We watching in horror at every nation put to the sword, world shattered, and innocent life taken. While we met the extra galactic threat of the Unbidden. With our allies, old and new, and determination keeping us ever onward. Turning the tide and in so doing, returned hope to the Galaxy in its darkest hour. All the while the Terran Empire continued its warpath, leaving only war and ruin in their wake. We returned to Earth, with the same spirit of our Pioneer forbearers. Just as they knew then, we knew the mission would be difficult and many would not live to see its end. But to do less would mean a fate worse than death. Make no mistake my fellow citizens, friends, and former enemies. What we did on Old Earth was not glorious. It was not for vengeance or with hatred in our hearts. It was done because it had to be done. For the sake of who live and those who come after. For all that have come before us, I stand here before you, and those watching throughout Federation space, to say in solum reverence; The Earhart Flotilla has finally returned home and Here we will remain most excellently.” - Former First Speaker of the last Antares Confederate Senate at the Earhart Flotilla Returners Ceremony

At last, the great deed is done. A most terrible price was paid, and horrors seen that make one wary to believe in a possible utopian future. The bleak truth of the potential for mankind's cruelty and spite laid bare for the soldiers of Antares to witness, left unable to deny. And yet, the battle was won. Time has not stopped, but the fighting has. Even in its mourning over these events, there is only one way for the Commonwealth to go now. Forward, Antares, to rebuild.

"It was in this broadcast from the future that I saw a terrible vision: My home, my world, my people, decimated. Every landmark I had come to know in my life now was forgotten or perverted or destroyed, the memories of my own time faded into depressing legend, the golden age that was no more. I sit here with the knowledge that Earth will be invaded, conquered, and enslaved. And I know further that the slaves will rise up, but not to achieve freedom. Instead, they will take it upon themselves to promote the tyranny visited on them by their alien masters, replacing their foreign overlords with homegrown despotism. In a cruel irony, the scions of Terra who set out to expand her influence will return to save her from herself. In doing so, the vision I have seen will be realized, and Earth will never be the same, nor will mankind as a whole. The most terrible civil war ever fought in human history, all revealed to me in this broadcast from the future. My dozen times great grandchildren will live to see this future, and it is that thought that horrifies me the most. They will never know the life I lived amidst Terra's golden age, nor remember my name. They will only know the tyranny, enslavement, and squalor that awaits. I can only hope that this, Antares Commonwealth, can restore Terra to her former glory and bring a new golden age of humanity with them. I.....I need a drink." -Jedidragonking, 2021 AD

Terran troops were smart in a insanely evil way; most armies would try and keep their civilians and military personnel separate, but them? They’d force civilians and their families to act as slaves for their troops, house them in the same barracks, make them fight alongside them, or be a meat shield if necessary. They knew we hated to kill civies, and they used that against us. I was in the European theatre and was assigned to help clear out the continent-spanning tunnel networks that housed millions of Terran troops and refugees. Imagine walking thru a pitch dark cave and suddenly, a group of scared, bony, hollow-eyed refugees comes outa no where and starts rushing you with a bunch of Terran death troops shooting at you from behind them. Now imagine you gotta deal with that almost daily for months trying to clear out these tunnels. And that was just one of the many horrors these bastards threw at us down there. Navigation is a pain in the ass too, most of these tunnels are centuries old and had so many additions, cave-ins, and floods, you could just wander down there until you died of starvation, and some did. Anyway, there I was with my squad, looking for some scared 14 year old conscripts to kill, and we, of course, got lost. again. We were stumbling through dark caverns using outdated holomaps, climbing over rubble, swimming thru sewage, shitting ourselves after stepping on one pile of bones or another, and all the while praying we didn’t get ambushed by a Terran death squad or one of the robotic monsters they liked to set loose down there, when suddenly, we found ourselves in a massive opening. We realized quick it was a kind of bunker, it’s markings dating back to before the Screk invasion. Whether it was above ground before or below it was buried I couldn’t tell, what with all the trash, debris and corpses that had built up over the years. As our hover-lights illuminated the cave, what we saw in the center of that bunker stole the air straight from our lungs: two great marble spires, reaching up into the void, and around it, statues of people, some stood together, others alone, but all of them seemed to be mourning. The sculptures were so lifelike, You could have thought they were people frozen in stone by some alien magic. Out of the over a dozen of these figures, two stood out to me; a hooded woman, gazing down sadly at a nameless tomb, and not far away, stood two men standing together, holding each other like brothers, shattered swords at their feet, looking stoically into the darkness. Across this tomb were names, not for the tomb at its base, but of many people, men I think, mostly. I can’t describe clearly what I was feeling looking at all that; fearful, amazed, weary, and just sad I think is the best I can put it. I looked at my squad mates, their faces were a mixture of shock, amazement, and somber reverence. My banthurian squad mate seemed more impressed than anything. “This must have been the tomb of a great warlord of earth, perhaps a king or emperor! Imagine the humility to not name yourself and your deeds, but to name your warriors on your own tomb!” He said excitedly. “No, This is tomb is not for just one human.” Sergeant Macleod said flatly. “You know what this is sarge?” I asked. Macleod walked up to the tomb, looking up almost ashamed at the woman who gazed down sadly at him, like a child being scolded. “It’s a reminder” - Private Loreto, 2nd platoon, A company, 3010th infantry regiment, about his experience during the Terran Liberation campaign.

I might be going too far ahead but if we get another season of Stellaris Invicta I have an interesting plot idea. It would go like this: A galactic empire which has lasted 500 years has been invaded by aliens from another galaxy. The Empire was destroyed in the span of a decade and Rump States were established ( kind of like the rump states of byzantium after the 4th crusade or the Warring States Period of China ) After the collapse of The Empire, The dark age of technology happened ( like in WH40K) Blueprints on Spaceships were forgotten and stations were not maintained and then abandoned. The remnants of the Military established a dictatorship on one of the major planets and the Imperial Family seeked exile in one of the most powerful family in the former empire. Religious Zealots from the Former Empire then rose up and proclaimed the establishment of a new nation (Then there should be another imperial rump state making up four in total I was thinking of making that rump state into a Megacorp but I got bored of thinking for the lore behind them). 200 years after the Collapse of The Empire the Alien Invaders have split into (6, 7 or 8) empires and are now currently warring against each other. The Imperial Rump States have finally recovered from the dark age and are ready to begin the Imperial Reconquest of the Galaxy. And that's all ( The only factions that should be playable are the 4 Imperial Rump States since the story revolves around them and also the endgame goal should be forming the Galactic Imperium using the Galactic Community feature )

Imagine the GTU, GTE or the AC vs. the Shivans? Or all of them combined? It'd probably still result in the extinction of all life, but damn would it be entertaining (especially if it were against Blue Planet's Shivans). "The Shivans span eternity and infinity. Their challengers are armed with weapons that shatter stars and tactics devised by galaxy-spanning minds. To be optimal is to be predictable. The Shivans are infinitely mutable. They contain all weapons and all stratagems, waiting in the dark. To attack them is to teach them your strengths and failings. It is a weak tactic in the short run, in a given year, a given system.
