The FA's Paul Quinn delivers a coaching session focusing on defensive cover and balance with a group of grassroots players aged 5-11. In the third and final part, the players are involved in a 3v3 game, with the defending team trying to stop the attacking team from getting to the other side of the area.
This game helps to highlight how the defensive positioning of the first player affects other individuals in the team.

In terms of the points scheme, wouldn’t it be better to give the defenders the incentive to tag because the theme is defending as opposed to the attackers?

Could argue that the verbal praise side of the session is on the defenders, this is their extrinsic motivation. The attackers aren't going to get too much attention from the coach, so to keep intensity high for the defenders to bounce off, giving the scoring system to the attackers makes sense :)

If 8 children in a session, would 4 zones & 4 defenders be excessive/ too long a distance?
