i think because niki came from a foreign country at first he's a bit lost and lonely but sunoo helped him get used to it and cheer him up and would let him prank him and stuff msjshsjhds which is why he likes sunoo a lot

I think in ILand trainees were in awe of Niki but he also was a threat it them whereas Sunoo openly shows how he finds Niki amazing and plays with him that Niki really treasured that and he shows Sunoo so much affection. I miss them like this but then again kids grow 😭
