Riding A P17.5-M Mammoth
Air-Conditioned Harvester
Vega, Texas - On Wednesday, I felt like a young kid again who was riding the Carabao for the first time.
The only difference is, this time I clambered into a mammoth farm equipment, a P17.5-M Combine Harvester equipped with GPS and fully air-conditioned.
My Texan friend and Scott Seed Company CEO Coby Kriegshauzer, goaded me to join Chip Morris, son of the owner of the harvester.
It was indeed an experience of a lifetime seeing the giant harvester literally devour the grains and store these in its huge belly before transferring it to a tractor with a grains receptacle.
All of these functions are done by push-button making the operation look so easy.
I hope that someday, Philippine Agriculture will also rise to this level of modernization.
Modern Storage Silos Dry,
Store Grains For Months
Vega, Texas - Grains farmers in Texas could harvest their 60-hectare Sorghum field in one day and do not have to worry where to dry their produce.
The 60-hectare Sorghum field could be covered by one giant Combine Harvester which transfers the grains to a tractor with a receptacle.
When full, the tractor with the receptacle transfers the grains to a container truck waiting by the side of the farm.
The truck then brings the grains to the Silo Storage facilities where the Sorghum is transferred into one of the Silos.
Once inside the Silo, hot air blown into the false bottom dries the grains to about 13 degrees MC.
The Sorghum grains could be kept in the Silo for almost a year.
Witnessing the process yesterday, I felt sad realizing the hardships our farmers go through before they could dry their corn or palay.
Some of them even dry their grains along the national highway during peak harvest season.
Puede kayang magkaroon ng Storage Silos with Dryers ang ating magsasaka ng mais at palay sa Pilipinas?
Kaya nating gawin yan with the full support of government.
Meron na tayong nagawang blueprint ng Mindanao Corn Grains Storage Silo Systems which could be replicated all over the country.
