“We are making a very important change in the thinking, in the politics of the Philippines. Let us base it not on political experience, but on ideology. And what is the ideology that we are espousing? We speak now of unity,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. stated, addressing commentaries where party alliances are seen as a ‘marriage of convenience’, especially as the election season approaches.
In his brief remarks during the alliance signing between the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and the National Unity Party (NUP) held in Makati City, the President noted that in Philippine politics, some may perceive any potential candidate or political leader aligning with the most politically advantageous party. Despite different parties coming together, their core existence is grounded in ideology.
“Well, we cannot deny, there's truth to that. We have to organize ourselves for the next election. But we organize ourselves, it's not a marriage of convenience. It is an understanding that we must come together if we are to transform our country into the modern, safe, sustainable, growing country that we dream of,” the Chief Executive said.
“We want to work with a common purpose in mind, with a consensus of what we are trying to do… And I think that that is what we are doing today. We are uniting behind the dream of transforming the Philippines. And that dream will be achieved by unity,” he continued in his message.
Formed in 2018, the PFP is a national political party chaired by President Marcos Jr. During today’s ceremony, it officially entered into a unity pact with the NUP, aimed at building a partnership towards achieving the transformation that would bring about progress and uplift the lives of every Filipino.
