partridge living room
This room received a funny name from a pattern on silk used for upholstery of walls: wheat ears, flowers and wreaths are depicted on a blue background, among which small birds, partridges, walk around.
Partridge living room - a kind of hallway in front of the female half of the palace. Like other rooms, it was decorated in the Baroque style by Rastrelli and rebuilt by Yu. M. Felten. Previously, images of the best graduates of the Smolny Institute for Noble Maidens were hung here.
Now, as a reminder of those times, there is a copy of the portrait of Ekaterina Nelidova, made in the 19th century. In the center of the room stands a harp made in London by a branch of a musical instrument company owned by S. Erard. The living room was one of the first to be restored during the post-war restoration work.
