My wife and I were traveling down I95 from NC to the FL Keys on vacation in my 05 Dodge Magnum RT which has dual climate control. My wife kept adjusting the AC temp up and down, up and down, until after a while the AC just turned off and wouldn't come back on. After stopping the car at a Walmart where I bought one of those charging outfits with a gauge and can of refrigerant, I restarted the car and the AC worked again. Why it turned off is a mystery but it hasn't done it since. So, I concluded that even my car knows when to stop trying to please my wife!!

they (A/C) have a low-pressure cut-off switch. low refrigerant, system won't cycle/respond to commands. Escapes through compressor shaft over time. If it's older & gone with no service, little top off gets it going again. Love those little freon tanks! Life savers.
@williamwhite9767
@williamwhite9767 Год назад
@@timewa851 Yes, I know. I connected the hose with the gauge and can to the low pressure side and the low side pressure was right on. And it still works a couple years later with no charging so low refrigerant was not the problem. It was something in the electronics I think.

The bane of any tech fixing anything, an intermittent issue. Please let us know how this works out. Keep the good stuff coming.

I have been in that exact spot. Everything just shut down....but everything worked... It all seemed fine. It ended up being a ground.

I really have to get further into it . I've seen these style resistors do weird things intermittently, but its always possible it's a ground issue. I told the customer to take it and stop back when it's not working again so hopefully I can duplicate it. I did look at a diagram for it and the G202 ground seems to be for the blower , resistor and the control module. Once he comes back, I'll get more in depth . I just did a preliminary on it today. Thanks for the input !!

Dont forget the connection on the GEM module. These are known to get dirty and fail on the taurus. Often cleaning the connector and a little lube resolves it.

Hey Kenny, really been enjoying your videos, recently subscribed. Over 30 years as a tech. My go to for any intermittent motor operation (fuel pump, blower motor, etc.) is my low amp clamp and a graphing multi meter such as the Snap-on Vantage. If there is a worn spot in the armature, you will see an obvious downward spike. Most common with a motor that won't start working until you start tapping on it. Even if you can't duplicate the condition, you can see the bad spot on the pattern.

That’s what I was thinking, more likely the fan motor.

I would give the blower motor a gentle tap with a small hammer. I've come across a similar fault where the brushes were worn out in the blower motor and intermittently not working. In saying that I've also seen solid state resistors fail. It's one of those things..how long do you spend on the diagnosis. Love your videos. Have a great day mate.

Kenny, I run into issues like this all the time, I am a one man operation and sometimes you simply don’t have time to joyride hoping for a failure. It too hate to just guess without proper diagnosis. I’ve seen several auto climate control resistors on these Fords fail quite often, sometimes intermittent loss of fan, sometimes loss of certain speeds. Think your “Parts Cannon” would probably be a good shot on this one. I’ve had numerous aftermarket resistors either fail or not work correctly out of the box on this style resistor and I buy them only from Ford now. Keep up the great work, love your content!

Many customers don't know that when the car is cold, and defrost is selected, the AC compressor automatically turns on to send colder air at the windshield. This is because warm defrost air hitting a cold windshield can cause dangerous fogging of the inner windshield. If you live in a cold climate, people who wear glasses will recall that their cold glasses fog up when they come inside. By cooling the defrost air first, water in that ambient warmer air condenses out inside the AC evaporator and drips onto the ground. Then there isn't as much water in the cold air blown onto the cold windshield. I wouldn't be surprised to see that an automatic AC controller may use vent doors to direct that air away from hitting passengers. Most of us don't notice that because we don't turn on the heat until the engine is warm enough to produce heat.
@WrenchingWithKenny
@WrenchingWithKenny Год назад
Very true. Most every car nowadays, the ac compressor will cycle in every mode except "floor" . It makes sense also in regards to keeping the ac system operating now and then to prevent premature failure

Omg! I always wondered why my truck would drip water from the ac. When I used the heater to defrost the windshield the morning.

We have 2 of them. And if it's blowing those credit card style resistors generally the blower motor is drawing too much and needs replaced as well

I had to replace mine on my 2006 F150. The blower wouldn't run on speed setting number 1. So I googled the problem and it led me to a RU-vid video to replace it. Mine was in about the same area that the Taurus is. Fairly easy to get to and solved the problem. I was thinking is was the blower motor at first. Nope it was that resistor. The price has gone up a lot from when I changed mine. It was only $25 with shipping.
@jensen6600
@jensen6600 Год назад
I had the same problem with a Mercedes, the scan tool even said it was the blower resistor I changed it but didn't solve the problem, then the thought crossed my mind that it had 4-zone air conditioning, so I checked and sure enough, extra blower resistance in the center console for rear air conditioning

Good morning, Ford usually uses a power transistor to control the blower. they also use a relay for max blower speed. It is a module that can be acessed from the engine side of firewall.

Hey Kenny,these can be a bit of a pain. Had a '11 gmc Canyon,intermittent hvac shut down. Ended up being the community ground on the right front fender, looks like a relay at a glance,really poor design. Probably 8+ wires going to it. Cut it out, soldered in 3 new eyelets,permanent fix. Thanks for the videos! Have a great day!

212000 miles, I’d change that blower motor too if it needed it or not, but thats on the owner. It’s probably on the way out sooner or later anyway. That blowers done a of spinning in 212000 miles.

Blower motor fan speed is independent of temperature control, only difference is how fast the temp changes due to the selected speed. I can't say for certain about the digital fan speed controllers, but the older analog resistive type speed controllers are easy to test as you may know. Those types speed controllers only work for lower speeds, so if the blower motor runs on high but no other speed, it was pretty much a 100 percent certainty the speed resistor was toast, as full high speed actually bypasses the speed controller, at that point a controller isn't necessary, the blower motor runs at full amps. My guess is, if the blower motor runs at any speed, then odds are the digital speed controller is not the issue. Btw, have you checked the cab filter?... those can play havoc when they're plugged up if it's got one.

blower motor resistor only controls the fan speed and if it goes bad you only get high speed,if the fan doesn't work it has nothing to do with resistor what might happen is the brushes on the blower motor are eaten up so it some times let the current go through the motor and sometimes not,that's most likely the problem,if there is not somewhere else
