Today in our quest to define a English sentence we are talking all about parts of speech (Also known as word classes, grammatical categories).
Nouns. Pronouns. Verbs. Adjectives. Adverbs. Prepositions. Determiners. Conjunctions. Interjections. We take a look at each in turn and the syntactic and morphological criteria we can use to identify them as well as the role and function each can play in a sentence.
Understanding word classes is important in identifying sentences as each sentence will require certain grammatical categories be present in certain positions in order to be complete and grammatical.
