Pasadena has always been a city in tune with music! Back in 1948, the year the transistor radio and the LP record hit the scene, a group of music lovers got together to support the Los Angeles Philharmonic. They started with galas and "TV parties" (guests could even dress up as their favorite TV stars!), raising a solid sum for the time (between $32,000 and $54,000 in today's money) for the cause. But in 1965, a great idea was suggested: showcase a stunning Pasadena home, all decked out by talented designers - not necessarily where one's mind goes with music in mind, but art, fashion, design, and music usually go hand in hand. The rest is history. The event has boomed from $1.50 tickets with coffee and cookies to today's valet parking and gourmet food options. Over the years, art sales and fancy lunches joined the mix, making it a full-day extravaganza. All thanks to the tireless volunteers, designers, and supporters, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design has become a legendary music-funding, house-ogling extravaganza!
