Thank you so much for this! I am a certified teacher in Louisiana, but am moving to Texas this spring so I am STRESSED about this test, especially the social studies and fine arts portion. I know La history, but not Texas, ha! Also, in La we don't have to know fine arts in depth like this test requires you to know. Taking this test in about a month and have been studying for a few months now!

I also bought the same book its alot but the information is great ! but omg so nervous to take it but im glad I found these extra great tips im gonna deff utilize to help me on my exam! :)
Genesis Romero i know this test can be intimidating but don’t be too nervous! Just watch something before the test to lessen your stress and find an upbeat playlist while you drive there! That helped me :)

I found other people’s quizlets for those subjects! I would recommend making notes and processing your notes rather than memorizing vocab for those sections!
I'm currently making my schedule to study for the exam. I will have about one month to study as well. How many hours did you studied per day? Did you give yourself deadlines for the practice exams? Maria G I worked a desk job and had hours to study so I started studying around 5 hours or so. I made notes, flash cards from the REA book which took some time to make, them I studied for about 2 weeks and taking practice tests. I scheduled my exam days before I took it to make sure I felt confident enough to take it then. Hope that helps!

Michelle R good luck! I used a book it wasn’t REA, I believe it was the company Mometrix. I’d recommend reading either I’ve heard great things about REA for ESL. I enjoyed reading a book and taking notes for that as well as Certify teacher and quizlets! I highly recommend looking through TELPAS proficiency standards for beginning, intermediate, advanced and advanced high qualifiers and the prep guide for the ESL test that the testing company makes. Hope that helps!
I really just used that book I referenced for ELAR! There’s not much content to know. I made flash cards for best practices and that will help you for sure. So best practice for backyard development, activities to develop reading fluency, etc!

I’d recommend the same company of the book I mentioned for Core but for your ESL test! Be familiar with ELAR instruction as well. It will help on your test. Same with looking through proficiency levels of TELPAS and examples of each proficiency! Hope that helps!

Do you mean Certify Teacher? That’s what my university recommended we use and it costs about 30 ish dollars with a discount code but I’m sure every university is different!
do you need to memorize all the math and science formulas? I wouldn't say you need to memorize everything but be familiar with like slope intercept form, PENDAS, etc. I don't remember needing to know any formulas for science!

So I've just started preparing myself for the exams while I wait to be accepted and begin in an Alternate Teaching program. I want to take them (291 and ESL) by the end of summer, so I'm sure I will have a better idea soon. I've been watching videos, taking whatever practice tests I can find, and taking notes on various things. I'm curious though about how the test questions are worded for each domain. Do they ask you competency questions just like the TEKS - What did Cesar Chaves do...." etc, or is it more about how/when to teach them (or both)? It seems like a lot to re-learn all info from Elementary as well as how to teach them all, but is that how it is? :) Thanks!
Also I'll be getting that book in the mail tomorrow. I'm sure I'll have a lot more information coming to me this week about whats on the exams, but I would love to hear from someone who has actually taken it!
So for reading, the questions could be more so about applying your knowledge of best practice into your instruction for reading, writing, spelling, etc. They could also ask some questions about the stages of development a child learns to spell, read, phonemic awareness, etc. For the other subjects, it's mainly asking questions how how much you know the content with less questions about best practice/instruction in those subjects.

At this point, I think I've spent 3 days just taking notes over what I need to study/know without actually studying very much!. Good luck!! I used the REA book I actually checked it out from the TXST library! That and quizlet there's a bunch of stuff out there! I purchased certify teacher just for their practice tests as well!

@@starrs.8419 that's a good question! I started with the basic theoretical probability first, then I went to the section of videos called probability using sample spaces. Those two sections helped me the most and what you'll mainly see with probability questions on the test! Hope that helps!
Lahura Salazar I studied for about a month pretty rigorously! But I think it depends on how you do on a diagnostic test! Take that and see how you do and that will help you figure out how long to study!
Thank you for the advice! I’m taking mine on June 27th! I own the REA book and certify teacher! Didn’t use neither one to study for the PPR and I still pass on the first try! The core exam worries me more because of all the subjects. Did you find the core exam questions similar to the PPR?
m.carmen the questions about best practice in teaching instruction are fairly similar to how the questions on PPR are structured. Majority of the questions are about the content so they’ll be about the academics. I feel like reading is both content and best practice questions combined. So for reading you’ll need to know about the content in order to know which instruction activities would be best. Hope that helps and makes sense!

I go to Tarleton and we take our PPR, then Core, then ESL. I passed the PPR and the Core on the first try. I take my ESL Monday. Any advice? I'm freakin out.
JaLeigh Pace that’s awesome girl congrats on those test and good luck on ESL! I’d recommend looking through TELPAS proficiency standards for beginning, intermediate, advanced and advanced high qualifiers because you may look at student samples and have to identify what proficiency they are. There’s a prep guide for the ESL test that the testing company makes that might help you. Know phonological, pragmatics, semantics, syntax, morphology, orthography, lexicon, etc. also grammar rules like what makes a compound sentence, improper sentence, etc. Hope that helps!

How did you get access to the EBSCO learning express? I visited the link but it asks for a library card or product key. If you go to UTSA website they also ask for a library card. :(
try logging in with your university credentials! I have an account, because I'm a student at Texas State. My email on EBSCO is my school email and I can't remember what my password is, but at the top it shows I'm signed in because I'm a student! Try that and let me know if it works!
