Running late by 1 hr and 45 mins. Amtrak #6 stopped at FMG station with 3 Fort Morgan Police cars waiting for the Zephyr. A passenger had refused to wear a mask as per Amtrak Rules. Amtrak notified the Fort Morgan PD and the recalcitrant passenger was escorted off the train. As related by one of the Amtrak crew [on the video] the passenger was going to McCook Ne. I believe he got on at Denver. Three hours+ is not that big of imposition. The Rules are Rules. Wearing a mask is not that big of a deal. Three passengers ended their trip at Ft Morgan. Once the passenger sans-mask was off the train the Hi ball was given and consist was off to McCook. The power was two P42DCs 180 and 39.
CZ #6 was caught on the Martinez Sub by Adam Ghimenti yesterday [Aug 7].
Tip of the hat to the crew, I hope your remainder of the trip goes a little more serenely.
I hope Angela, Gracie and the Amtrak fans liked the video. I am hoping one of these trips of #6 is on time and in the daylight.
I was looking for the music from Dragnet for background but I would be in conflict with copyright and lot of people wouldn't recognize it.

I just saw this post. When I was on the Zephyr last month warning g over PA was addressed to someone suspected of smoking pot. We were told if caught you will be put off,not at next station ,but wherever the train happens to be at the time. This was about 10 mins after it was announced that the conductor's uniform hat was stolen.

You mean they will radio the engineer to stop and just kick a person off in the middle of nowhere? The person will have to walk miles to reach civilization and it is illegal to walk on active railroad tracks.

A long train ride is the perfect opportunity to get stoned and enjoy the trip, but having the decency to step off and smoke your pot at the station or eat some edibles is a nice thing. That is, unless you're riding BART and there happens to be an unapproved punk rock concert in the last car...

One of the great parts about riding on Amtrak is striking up conversations and making acquaintances with other folks on the train - something that is virtually impossible on a bus. About 5 years ago, I was taking Amtrak from Los Angeles to Newton Kansas. My seat-mate in coach was an African-American man who, like me, was a pastor who was returning from LA to visit his family further on in Kansas. He enjoyed the Sightseer lounges late at night, and sometimes would curl up and sleep there (I guess he didn't like my snoring :) ) Anyway, on the second night, a man became belligerent towards him (the man was most likely inebriated) and started using racial slurs towards him. The conductor intervened, and they put the other man off the train - maybe that sobered him up.. Anyway, props to Amtrak - they won't tolerate a passenger's offensive behavior!

I live in Pittsburgh, and occasionally they will have the problem with the local Amtrak station Someone will always try to get on the Pennsylvanian which is the train that runs daily from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia and ends in New York City. People will try to sneak on the train without a ticket and then not want to get off.

Hi. Scandinavia here. As an old train buff I would like to know, How do you travel on from that place if you are kicked of the train at night? Just curious how much trouble they got them selfs in to for nothing! I would love to go on that train sometime. Thanks!

@@mrbronson5333 And I'm sure that at the time this video was recorded, masks were NOT optional. Where I live masks are no longer required (Feb, 2023), plenty of folk, older, still wear them, if a business or office requires that I wear a mask, I will, no issues. Those who refuse to wear a mask when required are, in general, selfish people, they don't realise nor care that the mask is primarily for the protection of others, not the wearer although the mask will offer a small amount of protection to the wearer.

I once saw someone being kicked off the Coast Starlight train. I formed a small connection with a young man named Tanner Dalton from Davis, CA. He was traveling to Portland and he had a major interest in working for Amtrak. He was pretty nice, but had a disability. The northbound train made a stop at Eugene for a fresh air break and there was a delay where we had to sit in Eugene longer than we expected. Tanner was in the same sleeper as me, and he started asking questions to the Assistant Conductor (AJ Mastaw) about why the train hadn't left yet or what is taking so long to depart (the Dining Car lost refrigeration and we needed to have food delivered to the train). At some point, I saw Tanner reaching underneath the train, then he put a rock on the track under the wheels of the sleeping car I was traveling in. I wondered what he was doing, and so Tanner re-entered his sleeping car. A few minutes later, he came back out and then the conductor (David Thompson) angrily yelled "get over here!" to Tanner and sternly told him that that's a federal offense (tampering with the train). He was asking for the Tanner's name and room/car number, where he lives, and the conductor gave him a dirty look. Later, I saw the Assistant Conductor, a much younger gentleman named AJ Mastaw who appeared to be in his 20s, asking Tanner (who was in the Dining Car at the moment) if he had eaten yet. Tanner said no, but then AJ told him to come with him saying the conductor wanted to have a word with him. AJ walked Tanner to his room and told him to get all his stuff out of his roomette, then AJ had Tanner follow him to the staff sleeper (Car #1, right behind the baggage car) where David was sitting in the lower level staff lounge. AJ sternly told Tanner that they were going to kick him off the train at the next stop (Albany, OR) for his behavior - being rude to staff and then putting a rock on the track, which according to AJ is a "big ass NO". AJ and David were both pissed with Tanner despite the fact that he did not intend to cause trouble (he had seen rocks being put on the track in his life before and nothing happened other than the rock being crushed) He said "when we reach Albany in a couple minutes, were going to dump you off the train immediately, no questions asked", and Tanner was headed to Portland, so he was going to have to either take a connecting bus or another train from Albany to finish that leg of his trip. When AJ opened the door to dump him off, he asked "you want to work for the railroad one day?". He said no, but then AJ said "good, because I'll make sure you NEVER get hired here at Amtrak" (I felt pretty sad for Tanner as he really did want to work for Amtrak and I wished I could have defended him), then he was removed from the train, AJ talked to the Albany station agent, then whoosh, we're out of there, leaving him stranded in Albany. I connected with him on Facebook and he was actually taking a cross country trip via the Empire Builder, then the Cardinal to NYC via Chicago. He ended up taking a connection bus to Portland, then continued the rest of his trip with out issue. The problem is, when he talked to the ticket agent, she was kind and respectful to Tanner, but she explained why the conductors were so mad and that they were going to have to write a report about him (they always have to write a report whenever a conductor kicks someone off the train as a penalty). I talked to Tanner on social media after this trip which is how I knew what ended up happening to him after he was kicked off. This all happened back in June 2019. About 6 months after this happened, I was informed of really tragic news - Tanner died on December 11, 2019. Apparently, he committed suicide due to a number of emotional struggles with autism spectrum disorder and anxiety which is one of the triggering factors to what happened in Eugene. In addition to Amtrak, he wanted to be social, have a girlfriend, go to school, and have a happy life the way most people do. Because he had autism, he struggled a lot with social cues and boundaries that are unwritten and that caused a number of social disputes with people he knew. Both during and after high school, he did a number of things, triggered by his disability that caused people to get avoidant of him. With his social challenges and trying to convince people in Davis where he lived that he did not intend to upset anyone, no one cared and to others, his disability/innocent intentions did not matter. A number of people told him to never contact them again for the rest of his life, and as more and more people did that, it elevated his hopelessness. He lost 6 good friends that he had known for a long time because they set boundaries with him that were 100% restricting of his interactions with them (they told Tanner to never interact with them again for the rest of his life). Tanner started school at an independent living program in Chicago (the city he always wanted to live in), but that school was a failure for him because the director of that program was really selfish, controlling and restrictive. In utter disappointment, he returned to Davis very soon after he started and picked up a number of social problems. The Davis school district (where he went to high school) banned him from contacting and interacting with his former teachers, because people were making bad assumptions about him at his expense (being in fear of a danger that did not exist, and if those people knew that, they would not have felt compelled to avoid him). A former classmate also got a court restraining order against Tanner, which was also because of social disputes that caused her to make the wrong assumptions about him, which seriously damaged his reputation. With all that (being banned from interacting with 10 people he loved talking to), plus all the other human-made hardships in this society, he couldn't take it anymore and he had no hope that any of that emotional hardship would stop existing. Tanner said he refused to live in a society that is so punitive, hard, and unforgiving. He did not want to live in a society where people did not care about his disability or how he did not intend to hurt anyone, and he did not want to be repeatedly mistaken for a stalker or a harasser (not who he truly was). On December 9th, Tanner decided "I am done with all this emotional shit and this terrible society that doesn't care about my happiness. Why should I stay alive if people aren't going to forgive or be nice to me" and he boarded the Eastbound California Zephyr in Davis without telling anyone and rode the train all the way to Chicago. When he eventually reached Chicago, he went to the building where he used to go to school in Downtown Chicago (the school that was a failure) and then jumped off the 9-story building which was the end of his life :( His reasons for committing suicide in Chicago rather than California were: A) so that he could take one last Amtrak trip before he died, B) die in Chicago, his favorite city and C) the director of that bad school in Chicago was the owner of the building and he wanted to jump off that building as a way of shaming her in retaliation for all the mean things she had done to him while attending her program. It hit really hard to the community of Davis (as well as the school in Chicago), and all those people were quite regretful of not treating him like he mattered, as well as for being so harsh and unforgiving. I went to Tanner's community memorial at Davis High School and most of the speakers were in tears (including the girl who got a restraining order against him who said she would miss him and liked him for who he was before he started making her feel uncomfortable/unsafe). I was in tears because Tanner was just so frustrated and felt defenseless with how the community was treating him and and didn't want to deal with it anymore (in fight or flight mode. Fight meaning: counteract those bad realities so that they stop existing/Flight: leave this society by suicide so that he will never have to deal with any more mean people or terrible realities again). All those things that elevated his hopelessness were choices that others made (responding too harshly is also choice which can be even more harmful than the original thing that triggered a response - I wish all those people got punished for how harshly they treated and/or reacted to him). Tanner wrote a long email to all those people that weren't nice to him, trying to encourage them to act differently and learn from this experience - to refrain from making bad assumptions about people, not treat autistic people like their disability doesn't matter (made him feel as if HE did not matter) and never respond harshly NO MATTER WHAT. One of the reasons for why his hopelessness was because of David and AJ kicking him off the train in Albany - since AJ threatened to make sure he never got hired, Tanner was in so much hopelessness because he loved trains so much and did not want any career other than working for the railroad. He said he hoped those conductors (David Thompson and AJ Mastaw, who are based in Portland, OR) hear about his suicide death and that all Amtrak employees learn from this to refrain from making decisions based on wrong assumptions. I mention all of this because this video is about a passenger being kicked off an Amtrak train, and how it contributed to his suicide AND he used this exact train (California Zephyr train #6) to travel to Chicago in order to kill himself. My questions to you guys is: WHY did those conductors kick Tanner off the train on the first offense rather than just give him a warning? Did any of you hear about it? How sad do you think all of this is? What could we, as a society have done better so that Tanner would not have been compelled to end his life? I await your feedback.

From reading your story and 'giving my analysis' on your request for feedback, he wasn't kicked off for putting a rock on the rails under the train. He most likely was kicked off for putting himself in danger under the wheels where the train could unexpectedly start moving. And he could do this over and over if the conductors don't see him or take action. Also, giving that his ADD seemed to control his social interactions, why weren't his parents involved before with therapy and medications.

I certainly have empathy for Tanner and his family. I also understand and agree with Amtrak. What I don’t understand is why, when the Amtrak crew saw him messing around on the track, didn’t they take action immediately and bar him from re-entering the train? There have been instances of ppl on airport property who aren’t supposed to be there, such as an instance of a naked man running in front of and under a parked airliner; even climbed up on the wing. The man was mentally ill but the air crew has the safety of hundreds of ppl in their hands, just like Amtrak train crews do. The fact that Tanner committed suicide is horrible but it’s not fair to blame his suicide on the Amtrak personnel who did what they had to do to protect hundreds of lives on that train. Though I doubt that a rock would’ve caused a derailment, he could’ve been killed doing what he did, and foreign material on tracks has caused derailments.

Another reason why freights don't like Amtrak. As you can see there is a freight waiting in the back about a mile or so for the Amtrak to clear. Typically this stop would be less than 10m, but due to police action it will take longer, so the freight has to stop too.
