This is a clip from my last transatlantic crossing on December 2016 on board of the Refurbished Queen Mary 2. At aproximately 3:00 AM of the fifth day, the Queen passed almost on top of Titanic wreck site.
It was a cold, rainy and foggy night.

What really caught my attention in this video, is how DARK the sea and night sky is in the middle of the Atlantic. You can read everywhere that it was dark and you couldn’t see anything, but it’s so different when you actually see it and see how DARK IT IS!

Agreed. In the films they lighten it up but in reality the lookouts head to find the iceberg in complete darkness. It’s amazing they saw it at all
@randomlyentertaining8287
@randomlyentertaining8287 6 месяцев назад
While it is certainly dark, do not forget that your night vision is ruined by the lights of the ship. You can see this for yourself. Go to a room with no window, turn on the light, and shut the door till you can just get a couple fingers in between the door and the frame. Then turn your back to the door and shut the light off. You'll see near complete darkness for a while but eventually, you'll start to be able to dimly see everything. This is because your pupils dilate to be narrower when it's bright out to lessen the amount of light hitting your retina. They'll grow bigger when it's dark to allow more light in so you can see more. It takes time for your eyes to adjust though so to go from the bright lights of the ship to the darkness of the outside quickly, especially when the sky is cloudy or there is no moon, and you'll barely see anything. Doubly so if there's still a bunch of light behind you. This is also why having light reflect off your phone screen or a mirror and into your eyes is painful. It's too much light too quickly.

And this is why I don't like seeing people saying "Oh, if they had binoculars, they could've saved the ship." Or, "Murdoch didn't do enough to save the ship." And then you see how DARK it is in the ocean in this video. There's no moon out, and without the waves, it would've been pitch black! In no way could the naked eyes of binoculars could've helped!
@Guillermopianista
@Guillermopianista 5 лет назад
@DeusVult Actually It wouldnt help at all. They couldnt see the iceberg due to an optical ilusion, reflection. It happened because cold and mild air masses and sea currents were joining at that point One mild and the other one is the cold current pushing icebergs from greenland to the Atlantic ocean. When this happens It may create optical illusions in certain areas making impossible to see the horizon. Sailers in Terranova are used to It. It may cause an iceberg to look much smaller than It is, or much bigger. Probably thats the reason why they couldnt see it. Otherwise there is not explanation. It was an extremely calm night... they should have seen it 15 or 20 minutes before.

They could have heeded the warnings and stopped for the night. The ship was deemed "unsinkable," but they knew it could still take damage and leave them stranded while they wait for another ship to help out. Even if only 1 or 2 bulkheads flooded and kept it afloat, how embarrassing would it have been to let that happen on its maiden voyage? Better to stop for the night and come up with a PR response as to why they chose to stop if they wanted to keep the unsinkable title. Ismay and Smith will always be the blame for this incident more than anyone else. They made the decision to keep on going through an ice field for pride at the risk of their passengers's safety.

@@miguelcrtz It was a perfectly clear night, and the sea was so still and calm it was more like a lake. Highly unusual conditions and very rare, so unusual in fact that historians theorise the weather condition contributed to the collision. The ship would have been clearly visible from the lifeboats by the incredibly bright moonlight and star light reflecting from the glass-like water, as well as the illumination of the ships lights, which stayed on until moments before the break, due to the galant efforts of the crew below decks to keep the generators running as long as possible.

1st When my step dad was 18 he worked on a cruise ship and he always hang out in the back of the boat as we call the lounge. He was mining his own business then all of a sudden on the intercom he hears "Hello lady's and gentlemen we are currently passing by where the titanic sank" he was so shocked and back then there weren't phones so he memorized it all. He felt the cold icy waters as well cause when your on the back you can feel the little specks on the engine's hitting the water. 2nd story when my dad was 21 he and my mom met in highschool and blah blah blah moving on in life they decided to go to vegas!!! So they were looking around and then he saw a titanic museum near by! So they went it in. My mom says that had a scale model of everything. 3rd story hello my name is giovanni and i am obsessed With titanic and im pretty sure that's why your here or you love queen mary too but my story is in 2018 and it all started with me loving Titanic and seeing clips everyday cause we cant find a DVD.
