Fermenting the seeds in water with the flesh of the fruits will greatly improve germination rates. I got mine from a birds butt for free!

They're just stunning! Also for whatever it's worth to anyone reading I've found a mixture of passion flower and skullcap tinctures (along with one or two other herbs sometimes) makes a great alternative to antianxiety medications...

Why mention that you add two other herbs, then fail to include what they are? That’s like saying ‘I’ve discovered something amazing!’ And then failing to elaborate.

How are they growing?

@@TheSunRiseKid My germination rate was low, but, the ones that did grow are growing like weeds! :) Sorry for the pun but these flowers seem to know no bounds. They tend to like to bunch together with their little 'tentacles' finding each other, and so far, we're near six feet and still going strong!! I am finally successful :)

this is the second video from this guy, I recognized him from a previous watch of a video on Valerian and in both cases his videos have been absolutely awesome, with the valerian video being leagues better than any other video I watched on it(most were new-age or spiritual/magic videos and I wanted info on the plant itself)

That's why I came to this video. This year we have them in abundance. They love our Zinnias. I have researched all morning how to get more. Mmmmmm...not so keen on planting this since it is invasive. Made that mistake with a hummingbird bush. Oh Lord what a mistake. Took years to get rid of it then I found out it is a weed in my area. Must be lots of passionflower in the woods around me so I'll just rely on that source for the Gulf Fritillary.

in Russia "incarnata" takes the third place after "passiflora_edulis" and "passiflora_caerulea". But they are all grown either in pots or in greenhouses (winter is too cold). Thanks for the rare video about passionflowers)

I recently moved to Indiana from Louisiana. I was surprised to find a huge amount of maypops on the fencerow here. I've been eating them since I was a kid but last year was the first time I had a truly ripe maypop. I always ate them too early. When fully ripe and yellow inside they have a very tropical flavor. If you get them earlier they are white inside and are good, like a sour pomegranate but the fully ripe ones blew my mind.

I’ve seen bees get very, very drunk on these flowers. It alarmed me the first time I saw dozens of bees staggering and flopping around on the flowers, I thought they had been poisoned. But apparently this is a well known effect that passionflowers have on bees, one historian noting that he watched the bee pass out and spend the night on the flower and fly off the next day.

Mine are the same variety you have and it does pop up everywhere, year after year. From one plant I bought a decade ago, they're all over the place... except in the original planting space! My only difference of opinion on this plant is... I'm in central Texas and have NEVER had even one fruit, even though I've even tried hand pollination, so I'm not sure it matters how cool or hot it is. Still it is beautiful and the butterflies love the blooms. I think bees would too, if we had any! I don't care for the smell, but for those that like floral smell, it would be heavenly to have in your yard!

Passiflora needs two varieties sometimes it depends on the genetics u have. Each species of passiflora blooms at a certain hour of the day.She is native here in my country and there is an specific kind of bee called "Mamangava" that pollinates just the passiflora correctly. If you do hand polinating between two plants from seed it will fruit, I think your plant need another flower, a passiflira boyfriend ! Your plant could be needing some other variety of passiflora to fruit, and it LOVES the heat. Good luck : ) thete are 3 types of flowers from passiflora and the less open is harder to fruit when it is very open it is ready to be pollinated you can hold some pollen right just it burst its flower and wait for other flowers to bloom in another variety, both will bloom. Yellow Passiflora doenst need another variety and can be pollinated between its own flowers, but it is said that their fruits gets better pollinated when crossed pollens from different genetics. Each plant grow from seed will be different than one another, keep growing passiflita from seed ^^ and choose your best fruit and seed.

Hi Marcy. Passiflora incarnata is native to the US and it doesn't need any other variety to pollinate. I only have one vine, growing by my front porch, and it has fruited every year. I am in central Texas, too, so not sure why yours haven't. I do suspect a natural bee hive in the tree line near me because there are always a bunch so that may be helping me. Also, the fruit really hide up under the leaves. I just hope to get enough this year to make a jar of jelly as I've never been able to!

Joe, thank you for your videos, always inspiring. I get a lot of maypop fruits here in Georgia, had no idea you could use the stems and leaves. The fruits I harvest do taste delicious if you let them ripen till they turn just a bit yellow. I will try to take a few photos tomorrow to show the fruits in the ripening stage. They get sweeter and juicier but the window on harvesting the fruit is very short, then it starts drying out and loses the flavor.

I'm here for the medicinal plants also - and I am also allowed to make a comment. I'm not bothering you - so kindly keep your negative opinions about my opinions to yourself. I value my solitude away from bullies and I certainly didn't think I'd encounter it here. I gather you will respect my feelings and let it be.

Considering it was named Passiflora incarnata by Jesuit priests in the 16th century to represent the symbolism of the passion of Christ embodied I would say the religious reference is most appropriate. And let us not forget the man making the video referred to it as well.

Geez, I hate this stuff!! Extremely invasive! Don't allow this anywhere near your yard unless you want it taking over and choking out ALL your trees, bushes, plants, ivy, etc. I was hoping for a video on how to contain or kill it off. I just keep pulling vines out of the ground and it keeps invading.
