Passo Gavia 

Brings back fabulous memories. In 2012, took my TVR Tuscan up to the top and down the other side. Certainly didnt realise how narrow the roads were further up and very little Armco barrier in parts. A phenomenal experience.

I have been in the Italian Alps two times. And I have to say, that of all the roads, I have driven there, the Gavia Pass remains my favourite. The scenery is just so pretty, that no other pass in the italian alps can match it in my opinion. The road is very narrow in parts, as the video also show, which is not really perfect for fast driving. Nor does the lack of fencing make this road suitable for novice drivers or the faint of heart. But this layout of the road on the other hand adds significantly to the experience of being close to the nature and landsscape. I stayed in the small village of Santa Caterina, which is the first city on the nothern side of the pass. And going home in the evening over the Gavia Pass after a daytrip to Bergamo, we say both deer and hare on the road. Just like if we were driving on an udpaved forest trail with no public traffic.
