Contestant Darrell Darling just passed away in February 2022. He was a Methodist minister and lifelong civil rights activist who once marched with Martin Luther King, according to his obituary.

At least they could still do opposites here. They stopped it later. But then brought it back. It was very difficult with no opposites!

she really is...maybe the best. And she was low maintenance in terms of behavior and keeping the proceedings on schedule.

Agree. But she did make a crack about Steve's wife Eydie Gorme which i don't think Steve liked. He was very protectively of her. I think she was a better player than Steve. She was told many times not to use her hands.

23:10 Robert Horton was promoted as the celebrity player for the following week, but he didn't appear. Jose Ferrer was the male celebrity. 24:30 Check out the two towering blonde beehive hairdos in the audience.

I wonder why they never allowed them to go back to the skipped word in the lightning round if there was time left.

Yeah, it's a tough thing to see when, after skipping a word or two, they get the fifth word guessed with 15 or 20 seconds remaining on the clock.

At the end of the show Allen announces that next week Steve Lawrence's wife Eydie will be on the show. Steve never mentioned that his wife was a connoisseur of fine food...in fact, I believe Allen said she was a "gourmet." Impressive.

Ha ha. I remember Edie( spelling?) Gormet. Mostly from the Carol Burnett show and similar. They appeared together a couple times as well.

I don't think Steve like when Dorothy said. You should play with Steve's wife. She makes all the faces. Steve face said it all. He was protective of Eydie Gorme. Steve died on March 7, 2024. What a loss.

Firstly: Thanks to the Channel for posting these "Password" shows on You Tube. Modern Television is mostly trash and sports. Glad they are on the internet. Per this episode ---> ugh. Steve Lawrence,,,, 🤕😡. Matt Dillon was not a "Sheriff". He was the U.S. Marshall at Dodge City. "Gunsmoke" was a radio program in the 50's (voiced by William Conrad) and by the time of this PW episode had been on TV for about 8 years. Every real American would know that! {And I had a "Gunsmoke" Lunch Box! 🤠} Clues for "Sheriff" coulda / shoulda been: "County", "Deputy", "Elected", "Nottingham". The ditsy, giggling wife of an Ensign was horrible at PW, but somehow won a game. Since when is a "Grape" a "candy"? I would like to know how contestants were picked to be on the PW game. My daughter applied to play on "Jeopardy!" a few years ago, and tested with two others. {She has an earned B.A. degree and is sharp, but she did not make the testing.} Many PW contestants act like they barely passed Jr. High School. Dorothy Collins did fairly well. I am not familiar with her at all. I'll do a b i n g search.

I dont get Nottingham for Sheriff. Please explain.. But saw repeats of Gunsmoke as I was old enough to watch then. I knew Marshall Dillon well.. I was born in 63. But I dont get how some celebrities or contestants got on, unless they just got stage fright once actually playing. I close my eyes and try to play and many times its much harder than it appears. Especially on lightning rounds. Sorry your daughter didn't get picked.

@@RepentfollowJesus - Hello. Very famous place and story. Both the book and movie. Erroll Flynn played Robin Hood. Basil Rathbone played the "Sherriff of Nottingham" in the movie about 1939 or '40 maybe. It is about a good archer named "Sir Robin of Loxley" He supports King Richard who was out of the country at the time. He and his fellows live in Sherwood Forest. Some romance, treachery, greed, honor, great archery, some good sword play, horses, various characters. . Robin Hood and his Merry Men of Sherwood Forest (in England) about the time of Richard the Lion-hearted. Nottingham was the town/city. It is still there. I read the whole book with full color paintings of the characters probably in 5th grade. I'm several years older that you. That movie has been shown many times on Turner Classic Movies and probably on AMC channel. Your local library or thrift store/Goodwill/Salvation Army store might have the V.H.S. tape. The Sheriff of Nottingham was "The Bad Guy" along with the guy named Prine John who wanted to take over the King's job. They taxed people lots of money (They were modern U.S. Democrats 😉) Supposedly "Robin Hood" and his pals lived in the forest and stole money from the "rich" and gave it to the "poor" and helped King Richard return to power. {English Historians call it a big fat lie,,,, but - it is a good book and movie. Enjoy!}
