Eva Gabor’s partner was my dad! He was a student at Yale Divinity School at the time. He and my mom used his winnings to go Europe on $5 a day that summer.
He was a good sport! 😂.. How special for you to have that memory. ❤... I was wondering, since Eva was struggling to give the words in the lightening round,..... Did they maybe end up giving him more than just the $100???
Eva is a hoot! She plays however she wants. She gets away with it because she’s so funny and charming. She’s pretty brave to play this game in English!
You forgot beautiful! She and Eddie Albert seemed like a real couple in "Green Acres" though were both in happy, loving relationships "at home." I think Merv Griffin was her true love. Such a smart man.💕
Eva talks and disrupts, but unlike many of her female peer celebrities, her talking had nothing to do with trying to cheat or get an advantage on a word. Her integrity in that regard was superb and refreshing.
If someone has never tried to learn another language or has never been in a foreign country, they may not be able to fully appreciate how difficult this game would be for Eva. She was delightful.
Playing with Eva is definitely a language disadvantage, but I can't think of another celebrity who would make "losing" (if it happened) so enjoyable....Its literally worth the $500.00. She's authentically original here. Like they say...if you gotta go, what a way to go.
Saw Paul in concert in Phoenix a summer ago (2018) and he was absolutely fantastic! The crowd loved him and stormed the stage afterwards. He was so wonderful to hug and shake hands with all those people. Catch one of his concerts if you have the chance! You will be royally entertained!
Just went to Google and found out that Paul Anka is still living, found a video promoting his concert tour in 2019 (he still sounds pretty damned good) and in fact so strange that if I flew out to Clearwater Florida sometime later today and stayed overnight, I can actually see him live performing (Clearwater) tomorrow March 7, 2020. Wow! So cool to see that he is still at it! Definitely a special spirit.
Watching Eva play the lightening round was hilarious. As the contestants were waiting, they were probably praying to partner with the handsome Paul Anka.
Paul Anka's first hit, Diana, went to Number One the year that I was born; which was 1957. Then seven years later, came the Beatles and the British Invasion, which changed popular music forever.
Astonishing that Ms. Gabor appeared that night. She was struck by a pistol in the head, punched in the mouth, tied up, gaged, generally roughed up by two gunmen in her Miami apartment merely 12 days prior to the airing of this show. What a professional!!!
Eva Gabor is SO SMART!!!. Before she gives the clue for "Lion". She give many little hint for the word such as roar her voice and said "hypnostize". Too bad that lady did not get it.
@@ddruxman3579 ..Hi there🌻✌️.Excuse me .. Um ... Just my humble opinion here..but shouldn't it be referred to as a 'bushlet' ?.🤔.as in 'hamlet'..a 'tiny ham' 🧐🍖?..🍀📚👀🍀☕☕☕☕.😊🧐🕵️🍽️😋🤪🤭
The Number One song that week was There I Said it Again by Bobby Vinton. It was also Number One the same week that Eva Gabor and her husband at the time, Wall Street stockbroker Richard Brown, were both in Miami, and she was beaten and robbed of a $25,000 diamond ring. It was the last Number One song by an American artist at that time. Then of course, came the Beatles and the British Invasion, which forever changed popular music
I am Hungarian on my mother's side. Her brother lived in Los Angeles and sang on Hungarian radio. He met stars like Ernie Kovacs and the Gabor sisters. I loved Eva Gabor on "Green Acres". She is very entertaining in general and she would be fine on a game show like Hollywood Squares where she could be picked by either contestant. However, on a show like Password, it was very unfair for the non-celebrity contestant who was matched with her. (It wouldn't have been so bad on the previous nighttime format where the same two contestants played the whole game and simply switched between the celebrities.) I was surprised that she could even help win one game and she didn't know English well enough to play the lightning round properly. She had to have the clock stopped so often, it was probably the longest lightning round in the history of the game.
Eva had certain advantages over Paul (and other celebrities she appeared with on different Password shows) when she elicited the help of Allen. Yet Paul had a better understanding of the English language and therefore also had an advantage. They both balanced themselves out!
They had to throw away All of the Rules just to Accommodate Eva Gabor !! This Show had to be completely reconfigured and tailor made to suit the unique demands of the enchanting Miss Gabor !!
I totally love Zsa Zsa, she's my favourite female celebrity, she was totally floof, hilarious and beautiful, her sister isn't so majestic, but she's still adorable and enchanting to watch. OK her English isn't great but who can say they speak Hungarian as well as she English? Especially in US or UK. The objective is to be good with word meanings but entertainment is also important, dull guests who might be good at the game wouldn't be as interesting to watch.
He asked her about her diamond being missing, it was her sister that was robbed. So the host mixed her up right at the beginning, she handled it quite well.
Zsa Zsa was also robbed of jewels as well. She got robbed of her jewels back in 1970 when she was appearing in the Broadway show Forty Carats in New York.
@@maxsands3861 both zsa zsa and eva were robber zsa zsa in the 70s and eva in 64 her ring was stole her and her husband at the time were tied up and she was hit with a pistol and punched in the face.
He usually asks the man if he is married or "what do you do for a living", and the woman if she is a "working girl". lol It had different connotations back then.
For "Affection," I would've used its pretty much direct synonym: "Affinity." Another way of going is saying the word "Liking" ... with a slight gesture of snuggly(ness) (but not so broad as to be hand-slapped for giving a gesture LOL :-)
@I've seen the Twinkie and the damage done I do (as well as a number of my friends). That said, maybe it wouldn't be - or certainly HAVE been - common enough to be a viable clue :-)
19:47 she says "last time I didn't know about grasshopper" - so it sounds like she might have been on before. Unless she was on another game show and is mistaken. She seemed to have a lot of fun with this episode, though.
One of the commenters here said what clue they would have used for affection. When i watched this last night, i kept thinking that i would have said kissing. Maybe that would have helped to solve that one.Or even the word " shows". Like to show affection.
