What's My Line? I wonder if "The Sound of Music" ever got plugged on G-T programs in early 1965. The way it got plugged on G-T programs, you would think "Fluffy" was the Lawrence of Arabia of 1965.

What's My Line? After the first three plugs for "Fluffy" on WML, the word is in my mind, forever associated with Tony Randall. Every time I've heard that word since, Tony's face has kept on popping up in my head. ;)

+MattTheSaiyan This is only speculation on my part, but I think it has to do with the fact that after initially *not* saving copies of both shows, G-T later had second thoughts and by that point, ABC had wiped their copies of Password, but CBS still had copies of NYSI. In fact, CBS was surprisingly good at preserving their 70s game shows which is why CBS shows from the 70s are more plentiful than the ones from NBC or ABC, regardless of production company.

Very late to the game, but I believe that "What's My Line?" aired live during its network run and at the time, it was standard practice to make kinescopes of live shows. I believe that "Password" was prerecorded on videotape.

Albin Kampfer This seems to be his first one in general for any show from Goodson-Todman.

Jack Clark was the original Password announcer with Gene Wood occasionally filling in. Lee Vines then replaced Clark. Wood later became regular announcer for both Password Plus and then Super Password. Wood also brought back "The Password is ______ " midway through Super Password's network run.

SaveThe TPC Yes, "crab" was used, and I hoped for the same as you. What about "lather" this time? Wouldn't "foam" have been both appropriate and obvious clue?

SuperWinterborn I thought someone *did* say foam, but maybe I'm thinking of a different episode. I have watched not only the ones Gary has posted but also a couple of others this weekend, so they all begin to blur together. I would have to watch this one through again to find the "lather" part -- unless you have an idea about how many minutes into the show it came up.

SuperWinterborn Well, that was a lot easier than I expected! "Lather" was the first password, and in fact, "foam" was the first clue! There are lots of different kinds of foam, though (my first thought on hearing it would be that soft, spongy stuff that is put into cushions and such), and the contestant's response of "fume" was actually way off track, -- responding to sound rather than meaning on the first clue? He got it right away on his next turn, though -- probably by putting all three clues together -- foam, shaving & soap. "Suds" would be another good clue for lather, I think.

SaveThe TPC I can't believe I could have missed Carol's "F-oa-am"! ;) His response was way off track, I agree. I do also think he responded to the sound rather than he meaning.

I enjoyed the Alphabet Murders, but mainly because I liked the casting. So many British actors of that period that I love. Such a nice touch with the cameo of Margaret Rutherford and Stringer Davis from the Miss Marple films. I admired the quirky cinematography too. Watch out for the bit in the steam room with the mirrors. Also noted a continuity error in the steam room, involving the masseurs shoes. Would have benefitted from being in colour I feel.
