Well done for uploading this compilation of photos. I'm from Dundalk but moved away in early 90s. Always loved the heritage side of the town but seeing all these souls that came and went before us makes you really think, we're only here a short spell. ❤ the early pix of castletown rd, (near to where Fagans is now).
Thank you. As a kid I spent summers in Dundalk with my grandparents. Lots of memories. What year(s) were these? I think the photo of a lady with a bicycle could have been my grandmother. I know she and her sister were the first to have bicycles in the town. Would have been in t6he 1890's She was Mary Hamill, they had a store "Hamill's of Park Street". Wow! Amazing.
I worked a lot in Dundalk in 1978-1990 and again 1997 to 2002. A really handsome town, impaired by the Troubles in that era. These photos show the architectural heritage so very well.
You should really look into getting this colourized, they did similar with past footage of London AMAZING.. It's really sad(the music doesn't help) knowing that most if not all these people are now out in DowdallsHill 🖤🙏🏼
wow. thankyoui for posting these photos. Ive been doing family history and tho originally from Galway they had moved to Dundalk for a while in about 1891 (possibly on way to get a ferry to Liverpool) so its really nice for me to see the area in that time, Thankyou.
