Hi Maureen... so thrilled you are getting value from my videos... I am planning to 're produce this video for my Patreon page for next month's 4 hour video. You would be able to see every pencil and stroke I make.
Gee whiz Dave, I watch all the artists on here and you are simply over the top fabulous! Love how you work it with (primarily) the primary colors..just fantastic. You are my new guru!!
This is so good. I primarily dabble in charcoal, but I've recently bought pastel sticks, and this is giving me great confidence. Subscribed and thank you for your phenomenal work!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Thanks for the sub and watching my videos... all the very best with your Pastel journey... its a great medium to work with for sure. 🙏
@@DavePortersArt Just started it and used your tips. Pretty happy with my first try. Now, I just need the pencils, though they're pretty expensive, haha, as I'm from Pakistan.
I really love your videos l learn a lot from you and iam so happy that your channel is rising 🥀🥀🥀 Love you My name is salma and iam your fan from egypt🌹🌹
Hi Lynne... glad you are enjoying the videos... its hard to make it look right regarding the reference image different angles and that. Will bare it in mind tho. 👍🙏🙏
Enjoyed this video? I have another about how to draw a realistic eye, check it out here..ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Okz-XbSs5Ys.html
A very good video showing how to draw and the mouth and teeth showing the techniques that you use. The problem that i find is when you are doing a portrait which i like to do is that the the mouth and teeth are on a much smaller scale as are the eyes i have watched your video on this , is that even using really sharp pencils is getting the same detail.
Hi Alan.. this is a close up study... it shows the colours I use... which would be the same if I was doing a small study. You have to keep pencils really sharp if you would like really detailed work. I tend to go looser if I do smaller. Hope that helps. Happy New Year!. 🙏🙏
@@DavePortersArt Thank you for your reply. I really enjoy your videos especially the use of complementary colors to darken a color instead of using black i found that most helpful. I like to do portraits of women and i agree with your mind concepts in the respect i find a inner relationship with the woman i am painting . A Happy and Healthy New Year to you also.
Hi Sir Dave, may I know, how do you determine the color selections? specially the layering of colors using pastel pencils. I love your drawings they are all realistic. Thank you.
Im not a Sir... Dave is fine 😉I would suggest using only the primaries colours to start with so you get used to seeing and mixing. Then it would be a case of getting a feel for it. It is hard to find an exact colour so I tend to find the closest and go over with the primaries and secondaries to subtly change it. Hope that helps. Take care and thanks for the comment. 💕🙏

I really wish you had a Patreon for real time courses. I’m trying very hard to learn how to do portraits and understand blending, color mixing, etc. I feel like I’m falling behind or I’m just not getting it. I’m getting frustrated a bit
Hi there just working on a Patreon videos. Will be launching sometime in January. Keeping the tier price down to just one... £4 a month so affordable to must. So be sure to keep a look out for notification. 😊🙏
@@DavePortersArt Idk what that is in American dollars. But, I want to learn. Portraits of people is my aim, and you do a wonderful job. I watch all your videos very closely, but I still find myself lacking or maybe I’m just really hard on myself. But I love working with pastel. Mind you, I’ve only just start drawing Aug 2020 and just recently started pastels in Dec 2020, and have a passion for pastels.
Amazing, can't wait for your patron. One question you use Caran dache pencils alot in your work. Why do you choose these over other brands? Thanks, Sharon
Hi Sharon thanks for the support... Will be working on Patreon videos soon. I love the vibrancy of the Caran d arch pencils. Would not be able to achieve my results without the Carbothello's and conte à paris one too. They all have there place. Take care 🙏🙏
@@DavePortersArt thanks for replying. I have the two other sets, I just was hesitant with caran dacha due to the price. Do you recommend getting the full set? Many thanks
@@bettyboop425 Hi Sharon... I find the full set very useful for backgrounds and clothes as well as portrait tones.
