Mate, this is fantastic. Just picked up a Past FX CE-1. Under the Bridge outro, with the chorus at 11 o'clock (personal preference) is perfect. Been waiting about 10 years for something like this to come along.
@@levijessegonzalez3629 it’s more noticeable when you turn up the volume to full. I think the ce1 is more fuzzy, you can hear in the first clip comparison. Overall they are very similar, I think the CE-1 sounds a tiny bit warmer probably due to component ageing and pastfx being a better designed modern pedal. But the overall character of the fx is the same. They are like at least 95% the same sound. I sold my ce1 and don’t regret it
@@InGrindWeCrust2010 There are two versions of the PastFX CE-1. One uses the 3002 chip and costs a lot more, while the other uses the 3007 chip and costs less.
A heretical confession here. At least on my first listen, with the screen switched away from this video, I probably prefer the sound of the PastFX! I am not sure whether you have the pot mod switched on when playing it. Many seem to forget that the CE-1 was actually designed with keyboard players in mind, rather than guitarists. As such, numerous guitarists who owned original CE-1 pedals would replace the 50K pot for a higher value. The PastFX chorus ensemble has this modification built-in, although one has to activate it, otherwise the basic circuit is (allegedly) the same as the Boss CE-1. The mod changes the default level control potentiometer value from 50K to 500K.
The original just has so much more body to the sound. The PastFX is great, but it sounds like the effect is only applied to the higher frequencies of the guitar sound. The CE1 is just a bigger sound, to my ears. I wonder if this is to do with power supplies? 9v gives you limited headroom and squashes the sound to make it sound thinner. I noticed this when I tested a 12v EHX Poly Chorus against a 9v version. The original again just had such a bigger sound.
