Poverty is NOT a sin. Jesus was poor. Mary was poor. Paul lived most his life poor. I once went to the Garden Mission during the holidays. Our Lord spoke to me and said, "Which is easier: To be the one I made poor who is there to minister to these men/women; or, to the the one who brings some money to help support 'their' ministry?" God is sending His sons and daughters into "human-trafficking" to bring the Gospel of our Lord to those who were taken into that horror. YOU could have been "chosen" to be THAT person. What does God's Word really say about poverty/wealth? These are verses you are NOT hearing by false teachers: Rev. 2:9: I know your tribulation and your poverty, (but you are rich) .... EXPLAIN: Rich in the eyes of God is different than "rich" in the eyes of greedy people. Luke 1:53: He has filled the hungry with good things; and sent away the rich empty-handed. (Mary quotes: Psalm 107:9) Matt. 6:19-21: Do not (a command) store up for yourselves treasures on earth ... but, store up for yourselves treasure in heaven ... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 2 Cor. 8:13-15: For this is not for the ease of others and your affliction, but by way of equality -- ... your abundance being a supply for their need, so that their abundance may become a supply for your need that there may be equality; as it is written, (quote from Ex. 16:18) "He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little had no lack." 1 Cor. 4 13: (Paul speaking): we have become as the scum of the world, the dregs of all things ... I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you ... James 5:1-5: Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. ... You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. Psalm 17:14, 15: From men with Your hand, O Lord, From men of the world, whose portion is in THIS life, and whose belly You fill with Your treasure; They are satisfied with children and leave their abundance to their babes. As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; I will be satisfied with Your likeness when I awake. Psalm 72:13: He will have compassion on the poor and needy, and the lives of the needy He will save. 1Jn.3:17: But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? James 2:5-7: Did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith ... But you have dishonored the poor man ... Do you not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called? Eph.5:3: But ... greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among the saints. Jn. 6:27: Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal." Luke 6:24-25: But woe to you who are rich, for you are receiving your comfort in full. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. Matt. 23:25: Woe to you, ... you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of robbery and self-indulgence. Matt.:6:24: No one can serve two masters: for either he will love wealth and hate God; or, he will be devoted to God and despise wealth. You cannot serve God and wealth. Prov. 14:31: He who oppresses the poor taunts his Maker, but he who is gracious to the needy honors Him. Prov. 22:22,23: Do not rob the poor because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate; For the Lord will plead their case and take the life of those who rob them. Prov. 29:7: The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor, the wicked does not understand such concern. Prov. 30:8: Keep deception and lies far from me, give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is my portion, that I not be full and deny You and say, "Who is the Lord?" Or that I not be in want and steal, and profane the name of my God."
