The pastor of a megachurch in Dallas resigned Tuesday, two days after admitting to "inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady" 35 years ago. The "young lady" in question was 12 and the "behavior" as she described it would amount to criminal sexual abuse.
The now-former Pastor Robert Morris of Gateway Church was preaching to more than 100,000 active attendees and was once a spiritual adviser to former President Donald Trump. His resignation comes four days after 54-year-old Cindy Clemishire went public with allegations that Morris started molesting her when she was 12 and he was 21, telling USA TODAY on Tuesday that she was no longer afraid.
It was kissing and petting and not intercourse, but it was wrong," Morris, 62, said Sunday in a statement to local Dallas news station WFAA-TV. "This behavior happened on several occasions over the next few years ... Since that time, I have walked in purity and accountability in this area."
At first the church was standing behind Morris but announced his resignation following a wave of criticism.

Offering prayer and supplication for Cindy the woman affected pray for her spiritual and mental emotional healing. Also praying for Robert Morris and his family. I know he has sinned but i also know since this time he sinned he dedicated himself to leading others to God and his ministry saved my life a number of years back when in a very very low place. I believe in the God who can heal and I pray that he would heal the hearf mind soul and spirit of cindy compltely from the sin commited against her and that she might find forgiveness in her heart in. jesus name.

Jesus also watched him do that to a 12 year old and, with all His supernatural powers, didn't do anything about it. Or any of the other preachers, pastors, priests, and ministers that raped, and continue to rape, children. Seems like Jesus and his Old Testament alter-ego are fine with it. It's not against any of the Ten Commandments. Besides adultery, in Robert Morris' case. But Jesus forgives him for that one.

Everybody is ready to judge and condemn but all of you who only seek that , you should know that everyone of us stands condemned in the presence of God . The bible tells us we have all fallen short . Its only by Jesus that we are able to be in the presence of God ... So really we all need Jesus just as much regardless of our failures ... Why not show Love ? Love covers a multitude of sin , love restores and heals . They both need Jesus . And we can be used in this situation to bring love and comfort. Praying for a spirit of peace .

I'm not gonna throw a stone. He repented years ago and from all accounts has lived pure ever since. If God restored David in the Old Testament how much more should we be ready to forgive. I'm not saying we are naive, but how can we preach that God forgives and gives second chances if we don't practice what we preach.

Forgiveness does not mean removing accountability. God still.lets us suffer for our sins although he loves us and forgives us the ultimate penalty. Forgiveness does not mean that trust is restored after its been broken

And is t Jesus sufficient to heal the victim too? I speak this as a vicitim of child molestation. She can be healed and he can be forgiven. That’s not denying the severity of what He did or what she suffered. It’s testament that Jesus is infinite and eternal and His redemption and healing is complete.

Wouldn't it be great if Robert Morris really repented. Wouldn't it be great if he didn't blame his victim for being " flirtatious"? Wouldn't it be great if the law interceded and held him accountable for his wicked crime against a 12 year old little girl.? Robert resigned, he did not repent . He should have been fired . The whole gateway hiring a P.R. law firm is proof they wish to protect their image and not the victim. Morris gets to walk away with his millions , his hush money offer failed in 2005 so he knew he had but a little time to make some confessions , howbeit , important details where left out so it looked like Morris was being up front and honest. But he wasn't . He was attempting to soften the shock knowing it was not over. He also talked about his sexual issues in a sermon on the curse of past family sins. He blamed the root of his own sin on a past family sin . By continually making excuses outside if himself to blame his own sin on is not confessing personal willful sin . It is passing the blame onto others . The man has built and taught others to blame their sin on others . It's why he can play the victim . The man is disgusting and should be in prison.

Matthew 7 saints. I don't agree he should have been punished. I understand the impact of child molestation. I was once a victim. But if he went to God and asked forgiveness. Truly turned from his ways. We need to forgive. Many in the Bible sinned after salvation. We must pray for all involved. I just don't understand why the parents didn't prosecute when they had a chance? Now.. ? I mean he has never repeated that behavior and did step down in the beginning and got counseling for 2 years. I think the devil is mad at all the great things God did do through his ministry. She had til the age of 35 to prosecute him and didn't why? She couldn't have been to worried about other lil girls to wait til she is 54. I think it's a money issue. Sorry have to judge her fruit. Because nothing makes sense to do it now.

We he did along with a small group of enablers was lie for 35 years in his books, in the pulpit, to his family, to get a church and even in his statement last week. In 2005 he threatened Cindy with criminal/legal action. This is in no way the heart and actions of a man that is repentant.

@ignitedfw I truly understand but shame is a horrible thing on a person. He probably felt that by the Elders knowing and all if them going to Cindy's family and stepping down and getting counseling. That he had done what was asked. The Elders allowed him back. He was young in faith remember too. We all don't always do everything right. I'm not excusing his behavior at all. I'm just saying he could have been very repentive and just was so embarrassed that he let the Elders make the decisions thinking if God truly forgave him he could keep it from getting out. We have crazier thinking when we are young.

This man did everything he could to keep what he did from being exposed. He lied that she was a "young lady" instead of a girl. He tried to talk her out of coming forward. He waited till the last minute and when he knew that he had no other way out, he finally played a show as damage control to protect himself. He has no remorse for what he did to her. He has no remorse for the innocence lost. He has no remorse at all. As a matter of fact, if she hadn't stopped him, it probably would still be continuing to this day.

He has forfeited his right to speak at the pulpit. Sadly, time has run out on putting him in jail. Being a man of God, he needs to at least admit what he's done and not whitewash it AND give her proper restitution. There's been no repentance on his part. That's when fellow believers are supposed to stay away from him. No fellowship. It's in your Bible.

Pr Robert repented of his sin years later, this was something that wasn’t in the dark concerning his congregation He spoke about it. Do you also know that He did this before He was made Pr of this congregation? Now before God this Man of God has no sin. It’s human frailty that is the problem. Pr Robert has fed that congregation for several years. His Congregation didn’t need to turn their backs on Him. This is not the gospel.

Well, we are continuing to pray that you come to true repentence, Robert. In so doing, you would bring some small measure of relief to the victim that you cause so much pain and suffering for. And the ongoing lies that you said against her and tried to silence her through manipulation. Your "resignation" from a position that you should have at very least been fired from and your ongoing silence are signs that you haven't come to the place of true remorse for the pain you caused.

He lied about his testimony He said he was 19 when he was forever changed yet two years later as an adult he commited a felong a crime while married to his wife adultery fornication not a mankof God when this came out he resigned right awY which means he did not repent unrepented sin in which he always preached on Since that is unrepented sin I am almost postive he has done some other stuff that pertains to this

Yes Jesus has, but Morris has stood and blatantly lied to us for years! He deserves to do the time for the crimes If Morris has “truly” repented, then we are to forgive. However, he’s still blaming the girl, so that doesn’t sound like he’s repented of anything. His stories of the motel and being set free were before molesting that child. So what god did he meet in the hotel is what I wonder? The same one the musicians and actors meet. The one they sell their soul to and become big name mega millionaires! Morris deserves prison, period, even if he’s repented! Sick of all the well known and well to do getting a pass on their crimes. And again, yes, there’s forgiveness, but there should not be passes for evil behavior!

Interesting how you all are so quick to throw stones and condemn. The man owned his sin years ago, repented, went through counselling and has lived a changed life since then, devoted to Christ and changing many to know the Lord. Many years down the lane, the very Christians who should know better that Jesus forgives and doesn't impute sin on us when we repented, are the very people throwing stones now. I wish each of you would have their past sins exposed to the world and then condemned over that for ages down the lane. I don't lighten what the victim went through years back. Am simply saying, Robert broke over that years back and sought to become a better man since. She too can receive complete healing. Punishing him now doesn't guarantee her healing. Let the world throw stones, but for Christians to do the same simply speaks of how little they understand the Bible they claim to know. Jesus said let he that has no sin, throw the first Stone.

Ummm... I don't know if this man should have resigned or not. I don't know him at all. This trip about god and salvation. On one hand we are as stupid and innocent as lambs. One the other hand we are guilty and as black as satan. God also sees us as trees who should produce fruit. Not everyone produces fruit. Most everyone just has to slug through a single goddamned day to enjoy a moments peace. Then I saw that god prefers trees over us. Then why did jesus come? to save the trees? he can have them. take one or two or a billion. they are free.
