Kinda funny to me how an injury to someone I’ve never met before actually makes me feel sad. AQ is a hilarious individual and a seemingly great man. T’s and P’s to him and his family going forward
We appreciate everything you've done for us this year AQ. Hope everything goes well and also hope you get into coaching for us down here. We could use you. Go Bucs.
Not to be that guy...but at least AQ had a full career before this happened. Imagine this happened to a high school or college player...would be more tragic. At least AQ can go on to enjoy the second phase of his life, knowing he enjoyed a long productive career. Cheers to the big man
Don't think it matters, to be honest just a sudden end out of nowhere destroys you, and I'm saying that as someone who had a career ending injury in high school
@@jumblesgaming i know what you mean. I wasn't a football player but played hockey. Was starting in net senior year and really felt like I had chance at scholarships to play D1. ACL tear and even with rehab never got the flexibility back in that leg.
He shouldn’t be ashamed of crying. It takes a real man to show emotion. Regardless of height, weight, etc..., he’s a more than a macho man! All the best to him. I hope he appreciates and enjoys life after football.
As a Steeler fan I was happy when we drafted AQ then really pissed when he did not make the team. I bitched and moaned for weeks that we cut a player who would be a 10 year veteran. Everybody said what do you know compared to the coaching staff Apparently more than they did.
He got cut by 4 teams and started 3 full seasons in a 10 year career (every time he started before 4 years ago was because the actual starter was injured). So it seems likely they knew something.
@@augustuscaeser5895 AQ was a 7th round pick who played in 106 games and started 70 games. The NFL is full of players who got their start due to injuries. Kurt Warner, Tom Brady just to name 2. Does James Harrison ring a bell? He was cut by several teams. Your post has no relevance.
@@albertbuchheit425 you claimed you knew something that the Steelers didn’t because they cut a player who didnt start consistently for another 6 years. It’s likely he was not ready to play yet when he was drafted, and he was never a can’t miss player even when he was starting. Specifically you “bitched and moaned for weeks” over someone who was at the time (and for years after) at best, a backup center, and ended his career ranked as a below average starter (although better than his 2017 ranking of 3rd worst starting center in the NFL)... and you’re using that as if its a valid argument you knew more than the coaches. For a 7th round pick he had a fine career... but it isn’t like Pittsburgh missed out on a star.
@@augustuscaeser5895 I never said he was a star in the making. At the time he was cut we were in need of help at the center position. That need continued long after he was cut. Like you said he had a fine career for a 7th round pick. and it should have been as a Steeler. As far as your statement that at best he was a backup player is just an ignorant statement because he had 70 freaking starts. But keep beating that dead horse.
If you've ever had a severe cervical spine injury, you know exactly why he's done. That fraction of a second makes you the most vulnerable person in the world.
@patmcafee - you should have a doc as a regular guest on the show to help explain the injuries and how they affect the players. Woulda been good to have a pro explain AQ's sitch and why it is career ending. Love the show! Keep up the great work.
My wife had the same issue with her neck. They have a Surgery that can repaired the spinal cord. They take a bone from the patient or use a piece of cadaver bone. They cut top portion off the vertebrae and replace it with the new bone attached too the outside of the vertebrae. It give the spinal more room to function in. When they did my wife’s surgery when they cut off the top of the vertebrae they actually saw the fluid in the spinal cord swell up and start functioning in a normal manner. I would the doctors would have given this information to AQ.
@@Acepilot12345 I still have lingering issues and it's been 16 years. If I crack my neck wrong my left arm goes numb, or I'll have lightning shoot down my arms.
I had 2 herniated disc’s. I completely lost feeling in my left foot but only on one side of it and I lost the reflex in my foot. It wasn’t until I had surgery, and a year of rehabbing by myself at home before I got all the feeling back! I can’t imagine AQ’s injury! T’s and P’s!
I didn’t get the same injury but I had something with the same result, no more sports easy living no hard impact on the knees. It is true pain and something that you live with for the rest of your life. I hope big AQ comes out on the other side of this with a positive mindset.
Man that’s insane I could only imagine being at that level and getting heard that I remember tearing my Achilles senior year and that was the worst feeling getting told I couldn’t play high school ball. Big respect to AQ he will come up and it’ll all be great maybe even come on the show eh
Dammit AQ .. well now is a new chapter . A door closes this is a sign for change. That's what life's about. Good and bad life is about change . Good luck in your next venture hopefully you'll be part of the public eye . You're great to hear insight from hope we hear from you often . Much love . The fans ..
Spinal Stenosis... Drs.had to take a couple of pieces out of my vertebrae to let my spinal cord have enough room to move. C3 through C7.Tough recovery with a lot of painful muscle spasms for about 2 weeks. I was told without surgery any significant trauma or whiplash could result in paralysis . I'm no athlete, just a retired mailman
Doctor's don't have time to sugar coat bad news. That's what mine said right before he told me I can't race anymore. I was still groggy from anastesia from the surgery. I don't hate him anymore but I still think it was a dick move to give a person that kinda news when barely coherent. Hopefully AQ keeps it positive, maybe Pat will have a spot for him on the podcast.
When we hear we either accept or reject or we translate what we hear according to our knowledge or we compare what is being said to what is already known or we oppose one idea with another. All these characteristics deny the act of listening and that act of listening puts away anything that is not true.
Prayers up for AQ. Hopefully the Bucs can get that man a ring and he can ride off in to the sunset. Possibly another addition to the Pat McAfee Empire? 🙏
AQ Shipley is a great Lineman. I be in support if he went to coaching. Hell he could come coach my Lions. I hear there's a nice warm Hot seat opening there.
It's hilarious hearing Pat talk about players trying to play off concussions as stingers. Almost sounds exactly like what happened to Patrick Maholmes in the playoffs lol
What Pat is describing sounds like spinal stenosis. Wouldnt be surprised to hear AQ confirm that’s what it is. Been living with it for a long time now myself and its pretty debilitating.
Best of luck to AQ on whatever he wants to do on his career p.d: Is A.J Hawk the real life Wolverine? Smoking cigars like Logan and made of Adamantium?
AQ seems like a genuinely good guy. I hate it for him. Best of luck to him. I'm sure he'll get some lil' fightin' AQs to run through a brick way for him.
Just so people know I’ve been a cardinals fan since 1999 and AQ is not good, I was wanting him to leave AZ for so long cuz he is a very bad center...HES AN AWESOME PERSON THO
A stinger would be something that seems incredibly serious but after a bit of time you are fine. Like I got my knee kicked in and I went down hard, within 5 minutes I was up and back at it.
I'm sad he got injured but happy it happened this way considering the worse option. Ask Steve Austin, Edge, Paige and Michael Irvin about the injury A. Q. has.
Just here to send him good vibes.. Even if he never plays again hopefully he has a healthy recovery and can live the rest of his life fully functional.. sorry the game is being taken away from you
A doctor very coldly told me "You're done playing football" after I blew out my knee. I don't remember much after that, but my Dad had to pull me off the doctor, and he said I was choking the guy telling him, "take that back". I played football the next year.
What is going on with all the career ending injuries this year. The NFL is plagued with injuries this year ! Career ending or just terrible ones. So many players out.
