The mental preparation for a single moment is a different kind of preparation than sustaining an entire game. Not saying either way. But they’re different types of preparation for stress and winning/losing. Kickers are definitely teammates when they make the kick.

When I was a young kid back back in 83, year 2 of the NFL, televised here in the UK, and we were still struggling to understand the game. The Lions, were playing the 49ers, in the playoffs, Eddie Murray, had a chance to win it for the Lions, in final seconds but he missed it. The thing that struck me was the commentator said EM, had just cost each DL player, $ 33, 000 a lot of NFL, money in those days. I then realised that there comes a time when that the whole weight of a team's entire season. And all work, pain, effort , hopes, aspirations and legacy just ask Scott Norwood, rests on the strength of mind and leg of the kicker. I am disappointed to hear RC comment he should know better . I remember back before they banned blindside blocks it was this one kicker can’t remember his name would kick the ball take off downfield and lay fools out. Teams started feeling some kinda way about that so they started putting pretty nasty blindside blocks on him and well he got the message and quit doing it.

Kickers have almost more pressure and stress than anyone in sports! You have to enter a room full of pissed of monsters if you blow a game and get death threats from fans

I played semi pro at special teams and PROUD to say so. I wasn't a kicker but took pride in our squad.kickers and punters decide how hard the offence and defense has to play by the job he does in ball placement. From onside kicks,field goals,punts,kick offs,and extra points are a big factor at what the score board says at the end of the game period. Teams don't win games just because of offence and defense only,but the hard work as a team and offence,defense,and special teams together.

When a kick-off/punt returner is running one back against your team and you hear the announcer say those dreaded words, "He has the kicker left to beat!" - kickers may be good athletes compared to the average guy, but they don't play football. When something like a kick-off return demands for a moment that they be football players, the overwhelming majority can't do it and look ridiculous when they try.

My mom wanted to get us tickets behind the Bills bench so I could ask players for autographs but accidentally got them behind the Steelers chance. I wore all Bills gear to the game, but when we found out we were behind the Steelers bench, my Mom got me a little Steelers hat to try to get Steelers players autographs.
