They always forget that the Rays went to the World Series eliminating the Astros. They didn't won but still got there. Tampa is doing very good on sports.
Damn Pat how have you boys not reacted to Nikita Kucherov’s interview 😂 Dude was shirtless, wasted and swearing. Seems like perfect content for this show!
As a Tampa native. I can assure you the Bolt Fever for the Tampa Bay Lightning doesn’t fade whether they’re winning or not. It’s as you said it is a hockey team.
Let's see about that when you don't make the playoffs next year. Tampa isn't going to be sold out when they're not winning anymore nothing you will say will change my mind. Sun market aren't hockey markets bye.
@@-gumby-3381 if you think they aren’t making the playoffs next year disregarding injuries then your dense. Still have the stars. Theyll lose some depth but regular season theyll be fine with that defense and top 2 lines and pp
I have been a Bucs fan for a very long time and never really watched hockey. Started this year and omg how have I not been watching this! I am hooked and not because we are a juggernaut of a team but because its legit fun to watch.
The lighting earned it they won it last year with no fans in the arena this year fans are allowed in and they won it in front of there fans which is awesome. They played there hearts out this year
And played injured this year. These are tough-ass guys. And the very reason I cannot stand the drama of basketball. Kucherov was giving, and taking, hits...with a broken rib.
Yzerman could have done it, too. He wanted to go back home. I understand that. Fortunately, Tampa is my home. Yzerman felt BriseBois was ready. He wouldn't have left Tampa without a strong replacement. That is a HEAVY weight to carry.
@@michaelkeller5927 the lightning told nhl about this loophole years ago and they never fixed it. Btw not the only team this year above the cap so ssshhh🤫
The Bolts are built for the long term. Our minor league system is great. Coaching is fantastic and the future looks bright with our star rookie Colton. GO BOLTS!
That is what I admire most about Tampa. It is not a team consisting of star players acquired through trades. They are finding guys, drafting them, developing them, and then the players are performing in the league once given the chance. It is a shame that some guys are going to have to go because of the cap.
The Bolts have been a contender since 2015. The guy who scored the GWG was a rookie. Tampa knows how to draft and develop. As long as Brisebois (used to be Yzerman's right hand man) is at the helm, I have faith they will continue to contend.
Yeah exactly, they're going to have to move some parts around their main core roster, but they'll still have Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman, Sergachev, Vasilevskiy, and McDonagh among their core group. That young fella Colton who scored the Cup-winner looks like a solid player they have in the fold too. I wouldn't totally bet against the Lightning going forward, granted, each year gets tougher but somehow I think the Lightning will figure out a way to keep their successful run going.
@@nicholassunderbruch7131 they'll protect Stamkos, Vasi, Kuch, Hedman, McDonagh and Point. Anyone else could go to the Kraken in the expansion draft, although only one or two of them.
@@scottblish766 i dont think Mcdonough is worth protecting over Cernack, I mean I love Mcdonough dont get me wrong, but he's not getting any younger and his cap hit is a bit pricey. I think they def protect Cernak over him.
And they were in the World Series…If they could have won that, idk if that’s EVER even happened before… it’s crazy enough they won the SuperBowl @ home first year w/ Brady, that’s NEVER happened in football(think it’s only ever been once a home team has even made it to a SuperBowl)
Not to forget that the year they lost to CBJ they were expected to win it all and the year before that they were in a game 7 in the semifinals. They had a legit shot at a 4-peat
They've all agreed that they needed that loss to CBJ to make them stronger. The give credit to that ridiculous loss after winning The President's Trophy and breaking records for creating the back-to-back Stanley Cup Championship team.
@@kelb1880 Honestly, even though it was a sweep, that CBJ loss was bad luck. They just chose exactly the wrong time to have their worst four-game stretch of the season, and the Blue Jackets thugged it up the entire series while the referees kept their whistles in their pockets and were spectators on the ice the entire series. The difference between THIS Bolts team and THAT one is that if someone tries the rough stuff with THIS team, the Bolts now have players who will smash people's faces into the ice if need be.
@@Born2ShitForced2Wipe Most of their starters are drafted. Yes they could have inconsistent QB play when Brady leaves but the defense looks well managed.
@@mightymouse447 Not at all. I actually enjoyed the SB but I'm not in denial like Buc fans. They have been trash for years and had to resort to Brady for a Super Bowl. It's common sense that once Brady leaves they will be back to not even making playoffs. That's just the truth.
@@randombutrelevant exactly. The core all is signed for stupidly low prices when you look at the their market value and for no trades + decent term lengths. It’ll be sad to see some longtime bolts have to be traded, but most that will be traded will be able to be replaced IMO 🤷🏻♂️. Bolts will be a contender for the next 8 years and I actually mean that. Just look at the codes contracts and it shows it all
@@rustedbiscuits874 Thank you! These aren't individuals on the ice. When the AHL-winning Syracuse Crunch is your farm team, anyone brought up is quality. Rookie Ross Colton scored the ONLY goal in the Cup-winning game.
@@boltinabottle6307 I feel like we will protect Cernak. McDonaugh ngl I’ll be fine with parting ways. He’s getting old, takes up near as much cap as Heddy, and honestly he has a lot of incredible moments, but then will have some “wtf are you doing give away at key moments”. He had the awful give away that made us lose to the Isles in OT for example
The six who will definitely be protected are Stamkos, Vasilevsky, Hedman, Point, McDonagh and Kucherov. Anyone else is fair game to get picked by the Kraken.
Congrats Lightning fans, winning back to back is epic. Caps fan here. I still remember that epic clash the year we won it. This team could win 3 in a row.
I'm having so much fun watching Brett Phillips' antics that I'm not even watching the scoreboard. Toronto was even cheering for him when he came in to pitch. That's a home-grown boy from Seminole, FL!
The Bucs only have been as popular as the Bolts in the few years when they have been Super Bowl contenders. Overall, the Bolts are the more popular team in Tampa.
The expansion draft may be Tampa’s saving grace. We can only save so many players, and I think guys like Tyler Johnson and Andrej Palat will end up with the Seattle Kraken next year, which will open up a lot of cap space, plus we have a great core of young players in the Syracuse AHL team that already have limited play time at the NHL level, that we may be able to move up and mold into the system. I think Tampa could go 1-2 more years before they are dissolved, and who knows. Stamkos spoke about all his injuries in the post game interview, so he may end up retiring soon, which would open up a load of cap space, and they’ve proven they can win without him.
@@randombutrelevant honestly, I don’t think they will get rid of McDonagh. For one, he has a contract until 25-26 with Tampa, but if you watch him play, he’s a second goalie. He rarely turns over the puck, he defends well, and doesn’t create penalties while still being physical. He’s incredibly smart, and the leadership he brings helps immensely. I don’t see him going anywhere. I see Sergachev being moved before him. No offense to Serg, but Cal Foote could easily fit in Serg’s spot. I don’t see Stammer going anywhere. Even when his contract’s up, he’ll stay and retire here. He loves the city too much, and the city loves him. We let Lecavalier go, and everyone in Tampa was upset. St. Louis was a messed up situation, but we got Callahan out of it, and we were content because Cally played with heart, a lot of heart.
Old enough to remember the Go Go's song We Got The Beat? In Tampa it's We got the Cup, we got the Cup, we got the Cup, hey, we got the Cup! Da da da da, da da da da, WE GOT THE CUP!
Tampa is not dead next year. Theyll lose a couple people but the core is there for a long time and they might be the deepest team in the league. Their mentality is next man up.
The Bolts are legit. They are a good good squad and are very hard to beat. I was hoping the semi final this year was gonna be pens and bolts but I knew the pens wouldn’t get past them anyway. It would have been fun to watch, but my oh my are the bolts a powerful team
It’s not gonna be too hard to stay under the cap and still have a good team. Tampa had so many players that were on the brink of becoming NHL regulars throughout the season. Just because we were over the cap this year in the playoffs doesn’t mean a rough cap situation will exist next year.
Wrong Boys. Steve Yzerman was for sure instrumental but Julien BriseBois was the man behind the scene moving the pieces, make no mistake about that he singed Pat Maroon, Kevin Shattenkirk, Zach Bogosian, Barclay Goodrow and Blake Coleman. Pretty sure that is what put the Bolts over the top to make this run. Credit to Yzerman for hiring Brisbois.
Stamkos Vasilevskiy McDonagh Kucherov Sergachev are all signed we just have to be sign Brayden Point and get creative with the bottom six in the lineup
I hate to say it, but that 3rd line is probably gone. Goodrow and Coleman both won't make it back, maybe one of them (I hope Coleman). That's my favorite line in all of hockey. TJ is probably gone too, Killer might be gone too. That said Stephens and Colton looked like they might have a good career.
Your not wrong but ... I wouldnt say just yet ... maybe in 3 or 4 years ...you gotta let those players that yzerman drafted grow, learn and play like the players he drafted on our team. It will happened but not that soon yet.
I live in Tampa & the city is more of a football town the Bucs & rays had a lot of down years but the TBL were consistent but it’s more of a football town & more since the Bucs won the SB in they own stadium
The only years that the Bucs are more popular here than the Bolts are the few years that they've been in Super Bowl contention. Right now, the Bucs and Bolts are equally popular in the TB area. When Brady is gone and the Bucs regress to the mean, the Bolts will be back as undisputed #1.
If the whole salary cap thing doesn't make sense to you, then it's easy to understand why you would be confused by the idea that the Lightning won't be able to keep this roster going forward. The way that the cap works, if the average annual value (AAV) of all of the contracts a team has with the players is over the cap (currently $81.5M), then they have to play with fewer players on the bench than normal, and if it's bad enough, the team won't be allowed to play at all. The Lightning circumvented this by having Kucherov on long term injured reserve (LTIR), which made it so his contract was not counted against the cap during the regular season, and as was stated in the video, there is no cap postseason. Going into next year, however, the Lightning will be well over the cap, so they may need to trade and avoid re-signing players that helped them win in order to become cap compliant. TL;DR: the Lightning exploited a loophole this year and it probably won't happen again next year or going forward.
Trust me, as somebody born and raised in Tampa the love for the Lightning is only based on recent success. Look back at videos from even 2015 and Amelie Arena is constantly filled with visiting fans. Teams like Detroit or Pittsburgh will occupy 60% of that stadium when in town. Jerseys, flags, any merch is only purchased during the good times and never seen otherwise
Tampa is a huge MLB, NFL, NHL city... Rays dont draw in fans because of the inacsesability of the stadium but the amount of Rays fan there actually are really high... there are a lot of Bucs fans as well and Bolts are probably the biggest fanbase right ahead the bucs and Rays
You're absolutely right. The Rays DO have lots of fans, but they watch them on TV for the most part. The Rays TV numbers rank between 7th and 11th in MLB each year, playing in the 19th largest media market. They're just not going to go to that shithole they play in in an inaccessible, dangerous neighborhood in St. Pete and deal with the congestion on I-275 when they have to get up and work and go to school the next day. They DO fill the Trop for playoff games when they make it. Put a new, modern stadium in Tampa or Ybor City that's easier to get to and from and near the population center and the Rays' attendance issues will disappear.
If Yzerman was truly the sole reason the Tampa Bay Lightning have been successful, he's not going to live long enough to transform the Redwings. Love the guy. He's good at his job. He cared enough to train another guy to take over the GM spot in Tampa. Mad respect for Yzerman.
Wanna talk about recent greatness by an NHL franchise. Should be talking about the Chicago Blackhawks. 3 Stanley Cups in 6 Seasons (2010 vs Philadelphia ,2013 vs Boston, and 2015 vs Tampa Bay). 😎
@@youknowimright.3137 Truuuuuue😉🤣🤣 BUTTTTT its easier to repeat than to win a cup and also be in the conference finals almost each of those six years too 🤣🤣 last I checked Lighting got sweept by the Blue Jackets in the middle of their championship window😬😬😬 lol.
