100% agreed, I’m a Saints fan but I love watching games Romo covers, he is one of my favs and he is awesome at it, and the way he tells people what they will probably do next and 99% of the time he is right. Lol
@@detroitsin5250 well I mean, they dont have to use the C word but they could said "...and he is still down" instead the stupid statement of "slow getting up" when the man wasnt even getting up!
Some comedian did a bit about this. Was using Gruden as an example I think. He said something like, "Despite the fact that Gruden is an entertaining commentator, he also finds time to sit down and talk to 87 players the day before the game"
Bunch of whinny babies up in here. I miss more than half of what the commentators say cause I'm watching the game or yelling at the TV. Your fathers would call you pussies.
I love listening to Romo...he breaks down what the QB is seeing and why he's seeing it. Helps me, who doesn't know football that well, understand coverages and why QBs do what they do. He, imo, is the best at that moment.
It’s usually the local radio calls that become legendary. So many amazing local radio commentators out there. I love how inside the nfl uses the local calls in the highlights. It takes them to another level
I will say, a radio listener is more likely to be a more knowledgable fan. NFL commentary is really hard, because the spectrum is so wide. If you even mention 'secondary,' a large proportion of the audience is going to be lost.
@@Burnout1997 joe bucks commentary during the Minneapolis miracle was good but Paul Allen’s reaction was incredible and shits all over joe bucks reaction.
It gives perspective on judging undrafted players with no pedigree. Romo is oft maligned but he is an accomplished qb and he knows the game inside out. He’s definitely made a niche for himself.
I like how Eli and Peyton didn't even pretend that they knew anything about special teams, so it was great when Pat was a guest on mnf. As far as offenses go they know their stuff and while they may do some things that rub the execs the wrong way(like Eli)it's still so much fun watching them
Nanz and Romo are an incredible duo. Nanz always makes fans feel part of the broadcast. When he starts off by saying “Hello friends.” That never gets old. He is the man.
Wide Receiver: gets shot in the head, heart ripped out, dies from cancer, and gets tendons ripped out Joe Buck: oooooh number 12 is slow to get up, we’ll take a break. You’re watching the NFL on Fox Edit: thx for all the likes I’ve never gotten this much
After having watched Rich Gannon the other week, that's who I immediately thought of. Greg Gumbel brings a good energy to the game, only to have it all sucked out whenever Gannon speaks.
Tony Romo is the best commentator. He's lively, has personality, and teaches the audience so much. He's even able to call plays before they happen. It's awesome.
Yet I've seen him on various sports talk shows and he's interesting. Probably the difference between a comfy studio setting and the pressure of a live game.
I don't get the Collinsworth hate He actually can break down plays and only needs to watch a replay once to have a reaction doesn't need 5 OBVIOUS angles to go "that looks like he was in bounds"
Pat mcafee is a hell of an announcer, he got the packer - lions game and it was probably one of the best announced games I have ever heard. When prater did the fake I loved his reaction. In a packer fan but pat is built different
Yeah, Pat's commentary made that meaningless game worth watching. I was glad I didn't have the sound off because his commentary over that fake was the funniest thing I ever heard a commentator say.
@@anthonyeadicicco7473 love Harlan but Eagle let’s his biases run a little too much sometimes. In an NFL game earlier this year (can’t remember which one) Eagle was constantly praising one team while beating down on the other, despite it being a close game (final score was within one touchdown and it was never more than 2 possessions either way). After that performance when I see he is calling a game I cringe.
I love terrible sports PHRASES, "They are a physical team" "He practices that" "He's a downhill runner" "He's a great guy in the locker room" "He's a great athlete" "They're gonna need to score some points if they have any chance today" "Thats just a great football move"
Tony Romo, god of color commentary, will break down and analyze plays correctly before they even happen. Then you got a stooge like Vilma who said the Steelers ran play action with an empty backfield 😂
“The strategy is to get more points than the other team” “You don’t want to be in these 3rd and long situations, makes it harder to score points” Dumbass points I’ve actually heard watching football
absolutely. The good commentators talk about why they are in such a situation or what could have happened or what they can do to get out of it. Bad commentators are just like "well here we are"
I feel like 80% of NFL commentators calling the games are like this. Super dry monotone voice with hardly any emotion and they just explain what we already see with our eyes as if the viewers are a bunch of 5 year olds to them
I’m somewhat sympathetic to the commentators because there is only so many things you can say during a game. It’s kind of like journalist asking these typical questions like “what’s it going to take to win this game” and “what we’re you thinking(fill in the blank)”
Having lived in Wisconsin my whole life, I can confidently say that absolutely NOBODY I have met has liked the combo of Buck/Aikman. Most people I know won't mute it, but there is a dedicated few who will put the radio broadcast on while watching games if Buck/Aikman are calling it.
@@yovirg sometimes id just mute the TV and listen to Larry and Wayne the whole time 😂 or Kevin Harlen, I wished he'd call more packer games then just the pre season
There are over 170,000 words in the English vocabulary and Joe Buck only says "Pass is..." when quarterbacks throw the ball. Conversely, I love Kevin Harlan the most because he calls the blockers. "Block by Bulaga", " Block by Glasgow" and stuff like that. Gives tackles and guards the love they deserve.
And here’s a guy that is just one of the best to do what they do..god I hate collinsworth..I hate him the most..collinsworth, buck, Aikman, just terrible
I can't stand Chris Fowler, but I can't stand anything that has to do with ESPN. The header on drama around sports, but barely anything to do with actual sports.
College football as a whole has better presentation. Pregame, commentators, everything. The best NFL commentators this season were the college guys who did MNF for Steelers Giants
What I most want to set to zero are stadium DJs. Not only do they fill viewers' ears with deliberately horrible sounds (to try to disrupt communcation in the huddle), but they also drown out the dramatic effect of natural crowd atmosphere.
It’s not classy it’s pretending to be classy while absolutely shitting on everyone. Absolutely hilarious, but he is not being a gentleman about this lol.
I dont understand why he keeps getting all these gigs on talk shows for years now... When I heard his voice while watching redzone I was like wtf no way 🤣
ON POINT! Its tough because I think people are more in love with Chris Colinsworth and Al Michaels for their voices on SNF. And they miss the fact that they don’t offer anything to the viewers experience and understanding of the game. They’re practically broken records at this point. How can commentators have cliches that aren’t about TDs or BIG plays?
This is "loosely" about Vilma. He was cringe to watch at times. He kept talking.about when he played and not the breakdowns. Vilma isn't a bad guy but he NEEDS work.
He’s new this his first year. I agree though. Also keep in mind everyone hated romo his first half of the season took awhile for ppl to get used to him calling out plays before they happened
Vilma is no Romo and never will be. Romo has a quarterback perspective with makes him very knowledgeable. Vilma is just horrible and I don’t see that changing.
@@rumplestilskin8230 weird I don’t remember comparing one another. You don’t have to explain to me bro. I know what position romo used to play. I’m a saints fan so I know who Vilma is 👌🏾
This was a terrible segment by pat. If you’re not going to give specific names or examples or even hardly any general issues you have then don’t do this stupid segment.
@@morganzimmerglass9925 He's not going to call out anyone specifically because people have connections, Diggs did though this 100% was about Vilma last week that was the worst commentator in a game ive ever heard
They would need somebody to do the play by play and that would be messy. They're both best at color commentary and while it would be fun it would be subtraction by addition. They would step on each other's toes.
Pat wasn’t terrible at it. I enjoyed when he got opportunities. But he’s the obvious replacement for Lee Corso. His passion & humor with the Gameday crew is great & he’d have great speeches for his picks & putting on the mascot head to pick the winner of the featured matchup
When the Jags at Packers game opened with the commentator being surprised about the Jags deferring the kickoff because he thought they should go and get the ball first I knew it was going to be a long day.
@@willisfritz4562 even though they are boring af at least they know what they are talking about, and they have experience. Burkhardt and Davis are actually entertaining, and the rest of them are stupid idiots who really have no understanding of the game and are somehow even more boring than monotonous joe buck
@@willisfritz4562 I have to admit the last game I saw with them they were ok, but previous games they start trash talking one of the teams or the players and it gets really frustrating because all I want is non-biased commentary, enhance the game don't make it worse!
@@rivercap1986 I agree. Aikman provides some useful insight especially for offenses. Example is pointing out what a QB is seeing in defense and helping to understand why some stupid mistakes happen. Joe Buck's peak was, "DIGGS.... SIDELINE.... TOUCHDOWN"... there's nothing else he's done well and for the love of god Baseball is even worse with him.
That's because Vin started on radio. He had to paint a picture of the game with his words and descriptions. He was, and still is, priceless. Radio guys that moved to TV were so much better than all the others.
No, he even stated this publicly. He is not AT ALL talking about Joe Buck, and is more so talking about the local commentators. Pat has even gone as far as to say that Buck is one of the best and most consistent.
AJ Hawk is definitely talking about Collinsworth with the self-stories. Collinsworth used to be at the top of my hate list, but lately it has been Aikman/Buck.
@@davidpierce9949 nah man. I'm not sure what team you root for, but Saints fans hate these guys. Like I said, I used to have mad hate for Collinsworth calling Saints games, but Aikman/Buck have easily surpassed him as the worst. Troy Aikman is the most petty man on earth.
Harlan makes most any play sound exciting, plus I love his commentary when cats or other animas get on the field like the black cat at Met Life a couple years ago running into the end zone, and Harlan called it a touchdown 😂😂😂
There are two distinct booth roles: Play by play(Michaels, Nance, Buck, etc): Calling the action as it occurs. Professional journalists Color (Romo, Aikman, Collinsworth, etc): explains intricacies mostly during a lull. Normally a recognized expert from the sport they’re covering
Kevin Burkhardt is extremely underrated... When he called the 49ers vs saints game last year and the 49ers and rams game.. even the bucs vs panthers last week was amazing
yes Kevin is especially good since he does the host role for Fox Baseball shows. You can tell he knows how to commentate well since he does actual shows.
Two years ago game pass had an error for me where the only audio I had was the in stadium audio for the first half of a game. It was the greatest NFL watching experience I’ve ever had at home
@@RZFLSports Ripped David Johnson after a 10 yard run Texans vs Vikings “If that were Dalvin Cook....” What’s worse than predictable commentary is slanted commentary intended to coddle and promote individual players like Watson. Watson can do no wrong! He has an entire scripted commentary to back him up!
I loved both back in the day, but after listening to a few old games called by Pat recently...he really wasn't as good as I remember. Madden was still great though, of course.
Yup, and he is so anti Rodgers and he clearly hates green bay. I usually only listen when the packers r on. But he spends the whole game talking bad about them or giving the other team excuses the whole game .
I was watching the bengals game and the guy was so clearly rooting for the bengals it was annoying. He wasn’t even trying to hide it. When a player dropped a pick he had an orgasm lmao. I hate it when these commentators can’t just talk about what’s happening
I often mute the game, listen to music and check my fantasy scores from time-to-time. I rarely watch an entire game, yet alone listen to the entire thing. I watch less football every year. Refs often ruin games with their horrible calls and the insane rule changes that make the game almost unwatchable at times. I have too many things I want to do in my life so I simply can't watch football for hours at a time. I'd rather watch the highlights.
@@RedAssassin274 Bro, literally at one point during the game he was talking about the Bengals and said "We" as in when you talk about your favorite football team and say "We just couldn't move the ball". He said something like "We needed that right there", like I literally did a double take with my ears.
Not really the same thing, but this got me thinking how in the Esports scene you don't really have this problem. The casters usually do a good explaining things the viewers might not understand, and more engaged with what they do and ay.
God NO! Brown loves to hear himself talk and can't shut up. He hectors the audience as if the broadcast were set in a classroom and we were his students hoping to get good grades. Plus he talks down to the audience. Everything is "Now...." and he continually repeats the obvious.
@@tradewins dude, he's almost 90 and has been around basketball his whole life. He knows a lot more about basketball than I do so when I listen to him I usually learn a lot.
@@yarpyepiddy Weird, wasn't even thinking about that. I can name 10-15 other commentators who are just as bad and white, soooo, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. You do you though.
