Ello Friends! I wanted to add some additional commentary to my Pat Sunlit Seduction reaction vid. I think the part that I didn't emphasize as well is that my point of view was coming from someone who has been purchasing ALL of Pat's including the quads/six pans etc so when taking that into account the color story (for me) was disappointing as I desperately wanted something different to the pink/gold/bronze. I want to enjoy her formulas in all shades 😊 However, the palette on it's own (taking no others into account) is beautiful and very wearable and will be perfect for a lot of people who wear those colours everyday and I am positive I too will love it for what it is but my video was about my reaction as someone who has purchased almost all of her palettes for the past three years. I have never proclaimed to be an 'expert' in Pat, I have always proclaimed to be a makeup lover and honest to myself and how I am feeling but I am sorry if that upset some of you. As I always say, we all have different opinions, your entitled to yours but this one is mine. Anyway sorry for the novel, just wanted to clear that up a little 💗💗💗 PS if you read this far you're a legend and thank you 😉💗💗

I love Pat McGrath, I really do and I own 5 Motherships. However the only reason I would get the pallate is for the special shades and when you break that down per shadow, it's damned expensive. There are so many indie eyeshadow companies out there doing speciality shades and textures and inside of a week of this pallate coming out we will know exactly where the shades can be duped as individual shadows, or they will become quickly available. I've bought and still buy a lot of eyeshadow but I don't blindly buy anymore, I've been enjoying a more curated experience and that's ok!

@@rivasharpe8344mariam a did a pat mcgrath dupe, it was one by bobbi brown. Also a baked glittery shade and it costs around 45 ish euro... so yeah if you would compare that to pat mcgrath where you get 4 baked shades and 6 other formula's...

Huda, Natasha and even Anastasia have all stepped up their game with different textures and color stories. Pat disappoints with the same old thing. With almost double the money. Natasha has seemed to figure out the smaller pallets with a lower oost works just as well

I have all of her Motherships and 90+% of everything else she’s ever released. I love the brand. I could not be more disappointed! Is pink….AGAIN! What in the world! And even worse…NO BAKED SHADES. MS 1-3, 5-8 all had 4 baked special shades. They are expensive to make but it explains why MS prices are high. Then Huetopian Dream had only 3 and Moonlit Seduction zero. Even if colors are similar, pressed shadows do not have the same texture as baked shades. Baked shades are more versatile and look better on my textured lids. Pressed shimmery shades just aren’t the same. And they are not “special” in the way they are made or the cost of them being made, but the price is still $128 US. She’s gotten rid of the things that made Motherships truly special. Her unique color stories and her baked shades were befitting this icon. Pink palette after pink palette with only pressed powders at $128 US is not. This is the first time I don’t even want a Mothership. I’m not buying it. I’m not boycotting, I’m just not interested. It makes me sad. I mean, I’m more interested in the primer than the Mothership. 😢 (I understand brands want to do what’s safe in this economy, but then there’s Natasha Denona putting out Yucca which is different and exciting…and very popular and successful. It’s just awful an icon like Pat McGrath has chosen this boring path. Sorry this is so long. I have…feelings! 😂😭

Haha don't be sorry! I totally understand. I think if you are a Pat lover and collector you always feel strongly about her releases either which way. I agree with you. I'm excited because I always love to see how the formula of a mothership has evolved but I am disappointed in the color story 💗💗

Very well said. I have to say I don't really get the "brands have to play it safe" argument here. What's safe about releasing a 4th version of the same palette, as part of the same collection? Surely that makes them all redundant and will split the same buyer's base between the 4 palettes. There's a way for Pat to add varity to the Mothership line while also keeping it safe and comercial. There's more neutral shades out there than Pink and gold.

Exactly I always hear pat diehards say : she has to please investors. However the points you are making are so valid why split your custommer base by offering 4 of the same thing and taking away the baked shades what in my opinion was the only thing that warranted the price tag. This gives me the vibe that maybe she isnt so artistic at least in putting colorstories together because she can't put a diffrent "neutral" color story together then warm pinks and golds. look at other brands like ND or even CT has some diffrent colorstories in her line. Wow long rant 😅

OMG darling 😄, I don't know where to start. There are dozens and dozens of brands I like using at work and on myself. Just to mention few, like...Shu Uemera, Surratt, Dior, Mac, Westman A., Pat McGrath, Armany, Chanel, NYX, Lancôme/Loreal, Maybelline, Beauty Bay, Shiseido, Guerlain, Fenty, Ilia, Caudalie, It's Cosmetics, Benefit, LaMer, Laura Mercier, Makeup Forever, Sephora, Sydney Grace, Oden's Eye, Give me Glow, Blend Bunny, Cosmic Brushes, Terra Moons, Clionah, Natasha D. Personally, I 💯 prefer investing in highly effective "high-end" skin care products that will provide my skin with nutrition and protection rather than high-end makeup.

Im glad I wasnt the only one who noticed the alterating of colors on those swatch photos. I always pick up these palettes cos I think “omg finally- a cool toned palette” , but then I get it in person and its SO much more warm and yellow based in person 💀 which isnt bad but its almost like im paying for something I didnt want I guess? Still great palettes but im hoping for a cool toned greige, bluish or even hazy muted purples palette in the near future

I own all the motherships, plus many quads and holiday palettes. So I had all those same feelings. But looking closer, two of the three mattes are more brown than pink, in fact, the one in the center of the bottom row looks like a really lovely tan transition shade! And I have been craving some nice browns from Pat. And yes, there are colors that have bronze or gilt in their names, but none of them are those really yellow golds that are so hard to wear. Those golds annoy me more than the pinks, because I just don’t want to wear them. At all! The pink and the purple in the special shades look very pretty. So, although I agree that we can probably dupe most of these, I will buy it. But not until it is on sale. At a deep discount. I can wait. 🙄 Martina, enjoy your time in Bali. I look forward to your swatches of this palette, because nobody does swatches better than you! 🥰

For the love of god I wish so much she would just go back to putting a black pan in everything but at least changing every other element. Remember back when THAT was our biggest complaint?!? Motherships 1-3 were so utterly unique from each other (with the exception of the black pan) colour stories were so incredibly different it was a challenge to choose which to buy first AND even the outer carton was completely different across the 3! Once she hit that face on the carton from mothership 5 it was still at least different between 5 and 6 Mothership 7 you could possibly even argue was still unique being that dusty ashy cool tone pink designed originally for the Asian market…. But once she got to mothership 8 it’s been exactly the same ever since. I’m craving a different colour story. And I’m craving a different outer carton design! I am SO OVER THAT CARTON AND COLOURSTORY 😭

The color of the year is Viva magenta. Purple has been hot lately. Barbie is making pink have a moment. Pat could have a much more interesting pink palette if she had taken inspiration from these things rather than her past palettes.

You expressed exactly how I feel. I fell in love with Pat’s makeup because of her runway work and when she started her brand, I was sooooo drawn in by the color stories she came out with. Her makeup actually felt editorial and luxury. Once Divine Rose came out, it went downhill but just like you, I’ve bought all the palettes because I still love her formulas. But I’m so disappointed and definitely feel myself gravitating toward other brands. Isamaya, Oden’s Eye, Adept, etc. Even Natasha Denona has given us neutrals and color stories that appeal to the masses while also releasing more interesting and fun color stories like Yucca, Circo Loco, Triochrome, etc. I don’t understand why Pat can’t do the same. I hope we get a good holiday collection because if it’s the same, I might actually not continue to purchase from her 😢

Zero interest. Good for my pocketbook…! I did get Heutopian Dream during the summer sale and it’s lovely, and it’s enough. When I heard “Sunlit” I pictured genuine yellow and orange. A soft blue glitter… a navy, a khaki… maybe an orange-pink duochrome 🤷🏻‍♀️ So many “golden hour” options besides sunset cotton-candy pink. And it should be the opposite of “moonlit”. Oh well…!

The special shades are not baked. You can see that in her instagram reveal video. I'm sure it will be beautiful but I was hoping for another VR shade like VR Sextasy. I'm glad we at least got one transition colour that's not pink because that makes the palette more versatile, but on the other hand, the Xtreme shade doesn't seem to be very deep, so we can't create contrast or define the lash line. That being said, I am disappointed that still hasn't given us a blue/green palette (which is what I was hoping before the box reveal). I mean, at this point there are so many neutral/pinky palettes in her collection that I think she can take a risk and release a more colourful one because if that one doesn't sell, there other ones still will. How gorgeous would it be to have a Mothership that was like an extension of Nocturnal Nirvana? Something bird of paradise/ peacock/ jungle inspired. Kind of like an Henri Rousseau painting but with a touch more blue. As for whether or not I'm going to buy it, I won't for now and the reason is I'm going to wait for the next Mothership and buy X, XI and XII when she releases another Mothership Totale.

I think it’s more likely to be option 4 - these are the colour stories that sell well to the masses, not the earlier motherships. I am disappointed too as a make up and PMG junkie, but we do have to accept that we probably don’t represent what the everyday make up consumer wants, and as a brand tries to grow past niche size into the mainstream, they need to cater for more basic tastes. In the UK PMG is sold high end dept stores and is competing with Charlotte Tilbury and other lux brands - these colour stories fit right in there 😢 xx

I get what you're saying. It does seem like most luxury brands do have basic color stories and that's why I don't purchase much from them. There's still a huge market for bold, dark, grunge makeup BUT luxury seems to equate to safe and neutral eyeshadows 😒 I really miss the earlier Mothership vibes. I-III and VI are my favorites.

I appreciate your thoughts on this palette. If people get upset, let them be upset. It's makeup and your opinion about it. It boils down to preference. I miss the early Mothership vibes. I-III and VI are my favorites. I didn't purchase VII-IX. I'm not a collector and I'm definitely not a pink eyeshadow lover. Easy pass for me. I am, however, excited about the primer ... even though my sensitive lids had a bad reaction to the Artistry Wand. Deep down I wonder how much stock she owns in the brand. This has not been the Pat McGrath we grew to love with those first 3 Motherships. It feels like someone else is making marketing decisions. Editing to add: Someone on the team does delete unfavorable comments on Instagram as well as block some people who leave 'negative feedback. It's happened to a few friends of mine, being blocked.

Moonlit Seduction was also my favorite, so I’m really looking forward to your swatches and opinion once it comes out. @@MartinaLily I know it's only makeup, but we love it as it's all about colour and sparking joy. My heart just sank when I saw the reveal. I mean, I guess I will save money! Maybe there will be one stunning shade that will make me want to buy it. However, I just watched a video on Nabla's new shadows. I had picked out two custom palettes. But I saw that they don't fit together well so I went with one. I saw a swatch of a magichrome shade called Candy Notes, which looked INCREDIBLE, so I bought that and three other stunners. However, I just checked and it's sold out!!! I watched BoB Mindset's video (the one where she unwrapped the shades she bought).

This palette isn't even just redundant within her line but it doesn't seem to have any variety within the colour story. I keep hoping for a release that is as versatile as the Subversive palette. I can do so many different looks using that palette. The brand seems to have lost its passion for innovation.

listening to your first thoughts and I just remembered that you chose LE to do your makeup instead of PM and said that Mother had the runaway style and Lisa would be more your makeup vibe. Now, where is the runaway style of makeup on another pink release? I am a fan of her brand and Pat herself and what she represents but I am slowing falling out of love :( I whish she had at a more editorial palette every couple of years, at least that. And commercially I do understand you may be choosing the easier path but ND gives us some good color stories, right? I dunno... we got that colorful xmas release and it didnt do well (has been on sale since the release pretty much) but I think that one was just all over the place hence not doing so well, all a bid guess obviously.

I agree with all of this. I think it's such a hard balance for commercial vs editorial and creative but I also agree that ND releases a lot of palettes and they always seem to be different. Comes down to preference I guess 💗💗💗

I agree about the mega mothership! (Celestial nirvana). Also, the quality wasn't on par with her earlier motherships. The formula wasn't as dimensional, glittery and smooth as other releases she has had. That may have contributed to the lesser sales.

Just why? Divine Rose 2173.25 can we step away from pink. Like I was hoping for red, metallic triochrome orange maybe, maybe a deepened purple mattes richer yellows like the colors in a honey comb. Just more than Huetopian Dream was giving us but I am kinda wondering if her new eye primer is going more tacky than the NYX Glitter Glue. It will definitely help lay down the effect shades better

This was such a letdown! Objectively, it is a stunning palette. But you can already find these shades within the Pat McGrath collection. It feels just like a muted version of Huetopian Dream, which I loved, but I didn't need or want another version of that colour story. Pat McGrath used to be so creative and innovative. But this just isn't it. I'd love to see a pastel colour story with mint, periwinkle, peach, and pale opalescent/shifty shades. Or a grungy, earthy green palette. Or a fully neutral palette but with ultra glittery/luxe special shades.

I’ve never purchased a normal mothership because nothing has tickled me. I have but have a some smaller palettes that have similar colours-Bridgerton first water/voyeuristic vixen/celestial Odessey. I can’t justify a mothership for two colours pink fetish/amethyst allure.

I dont own a Pat McGrath eyeshadow out of my pricerange ,I look over the mothership palettes alll the time and wish to own one one day . I think this palette is the same same but you are right every PM fan will buy this as soon as released so what has she got to worry about . Pat can do whatever she likes her fans are going to buy no matter what she releases . I think her fans can shout to the gods and you will still spend alot of money on the same shades .

I also think these luxury brands have to play it safe because their products are targeted to people who can afford their products. And the people who can afford these products are usually (not always) women who are 30+. There's a prevalent belief (which I agree with myself) that overly bold/colourful makeup ages women, whereas neutral leaning makeup is more flattering. So it makes sense that these brands are just going to recycle safer color stories because they are more likely to sell to their target consumer. Look at Natasha Denona. Her more colorful palettes go on sale more regularly or get discontinued altogether. Charlotte Tilbury and Tom Ford also stays within their comfort zone with eyeshadows. I think people should just accept that PML has a formula she wants to stick to and call it a day.

You hit the nail on the head with objectively it’s a beautiful palette but within our collection it’s nothing super exciting. I’m going to wait a few weeks, watch reviews & then maybe order it, or maybe wait for a sale & get it for Christmas!! I totally feel you Martina, when we have (all or almost all) of her motherships of course that we are expecting other type of colors, an interesting color story, something exciting! I mean even the box is a little boring to me. I miss the art of the first three palettes. Of course I’ll be waiting for your experience with the palette and maybe then I could think about get it. You know what? I even feel more excited about the primer 😂

It's sad to see this iconic brand deviating so far from their roots. This palette at a glance feels very safe and uninspired. About the special shades in her newer palettes... If she can no longer produce her original special shades, does that mean her older palettes (Motherships 1-8) will be affected as well? I've been putting off adding Subliminal & Sublime to my collection, but I hadn't even considered that the special shades might not be in those palettes anymore 🤔.

For me it's a drop, but I just bought Midnight Sun not 10 minutes ago for 50% off (well, I paid 45€ with my gift card). This one speaks to me more than the palettes since Divine Rose. My second Mothership palette. I'll probably/eventually get the first 3 also (got the 5 for 35€) because they look inspiring to me. But the others don't really inspire me to want to play with. Also I'm curious, if she goes back to the baked special shades in the new one. Because in the last two they weren't baked.

I was so excited to see what the new mothership would be, I mean surely she would listen to her consumer base yes??? NO more pink pink a splash of “red” and GOLD 😢. She could have just done a nice neutral brown palette half warm half cool tone and I’m sure everyone would have given her a pass and maybe even forgiven no special shades, but nope here’s more of the same 😮. I’m starting to wonder if she is looking to sell her company to Estée Lauder or something because this is the path brands seem to go when looking for an exit strategy- do what always worked before with no risk taking and as cheaply as possible to make the numbers prettier. I’m definitely passing on this one and may only consider it during one of her many 40% off sales. I’m so disappointed in the brand and even happier that brands like Isamaya and odens eye are killing it with what they are putting out.

I don’t collect PM eyeshadow pallets and I own just two of them (Mothership 6 and 10). Sooo I was hoping that this pallete will be neutral or cool toned something like Mothership 1 whitch I really want but didn’t buy yet.. This palette is pretty but I find very simmilar vibe with Hudas Nude obsessions in Light. Not all the shades but I think that is posaible to get very similar final looks 🧐 Anywayyyy I can’t wait to see your video about this palette, maybe that will change my mind about purchising it.. sending much love 🥰

I think I am ALL GOOD w/ Divine Rose VII and a couple quads/quints! I'll keep my money honey as I was contemplating but thinking the red was less RED and more RED GRAPE! First two shades on the left look exactly like D.R. VII....love those shades but don't need two more of 'em.

I have seen a number of ppl complain about this palette and I totally understand why. I think it’s great if u don’t have DR 2 or huetopian dreams but if u do, it seems redundant and a waste of money. It literally looks identical. However, those who are complaining that PML is not listening to the core fan base and to stop issuing the same shades, literally said they are going to buy it anyway. Well, they are the reason why she is issuing the same shades in the first place. If u buy it, the profit is there giving her team the impression that it sells because that’s what the market wants. If u what something different and are genuinely upset by it, stop purchasing the palettes u don’t like. I also think a pink colour story is not the years trend but rather the seasons trend. Its summer. Had she come out with a cool toned palette im sure ppl would have mentioned that it is a “Fall” palette and complained just the same.

The primer excites me, honestly and the Pat Pinks, Browns and Goldens are wonderful. Objectively, it looks like they will be warm basics and warm dramatic shades. I’ll buy it on sale and I’m sure I can find added excitement in my indie singles and other Pat palettes. In my opinion, her mattes are going in a new and wonderful direction. They are getting better every Mothership iteration.

This doesn’t even look like a new release? I understand the Mothership is meant to be a glam palette, so it’s going to be “wearable”. I just want it to have a point of view. Go for purples! Go for warm toned greens! Or blues - like the metallic blue in the first mothership - make a Mothership with blue and brown!

I keep waiting and hoping that the next Mothership would be all special shades (baked and duo/trio/multichromes), or that it would be blues and purples. Looking at the inspirations this year, I knew I wouldn't get the blues and purples, but I assumed it would be bright reds, oranges, and shiny golds. Instead, it was pinks and gold, with no baked shades at all, so I was pretty disappointed. The swatches are a bit different though, with more reds and sparkle, and it's are quite pretty, but it isn't for me. Maybe next year......

I shan’t get this. The last MS I bought was Huetopian Dream, and that was because I imagined it would be better in real life, and not just a tiny bit different from Divine Rose 2. It wasn’t, really. If I want to do a PML pink/plum/gold eye look, I have more than enough scope with what I already have. For me, it’s about what I can *do* with a palette, not having the complete line-up on the shelf!

Seeing this release made me so sad. I was more excited for the eye primer than anything. I saw someone else comment and make the valid point of she gave us color for the Christmas palette and it didn't sell well. So maybe there's some weight to that? I don't know. Still bored and bummed.

I was like most people disappointed to see this. There is nothing Sunlit about this!! We have it over and over! DR2 for me is 50x better! I also personally didn't like Moonlit Seduction at all, the mattes were horrible quality for me and I don't like the glitter 'special' shades...and I feel this will be more of that 😔💔

I recently got Moonlit seduction on sale and it’s really lovely. The special shades aren’t baked but are lovely. This one I am happy to skip. Money saved. Though overall, my anticipation for releases from this brand is seriously waning because it’s just never a surprise. Natasha Denona - even with the leaks - still catches me by surprise. PML not so much.

I believe the mattes have improved around divine rose and the metallics too. The earlier mattes were a bit patchier and didn't blend as well. The metallics have gotten smoother.

i seem to be the only one that thinks HUDA BEAUTYS pallets are as good if not BETTER and definitely her Matt formula is so much better than pets. I'm sorry I find Pat McGrath, so I shut it was hard to work with her mattes.... oh I got a put us new pallet and none of it makes me upset or sad. It's all beautiful the formulas are fantastic. In fact, her formulas are so good. You can use it with a flat brush and nothing added who has a formula that works better with a brush than your finger? HUDA....shes the only one so far.

It almost feels behind the times too. 2022 was the year of rose palettes from everybody, so you can get a very similar color story from a bunch of different brands for a LOT cheaper. I do feel like Moonlit Seduction is a little different, less rose and more cool tone, but Sunlit Seduction made me think of oranges and reds and bronzes. I'll skip this one since I already have Huetopian dream (and Sublime), and pick up either Subversive or Subliminal so I can grow my collection and have different colors.

Hi ❤ I have a question. Let’s say I want to buy PML first palette, meaning mothership one (sorry I don’t remember the name) the one created 10 years ago or something. Obviously I won’t be buying a palette produced 10 years ago, so if the formula of the special shadows changed, I won’t be getting the same palette you have, because she probably can’t make the shadows as they were originally in those first pallets. So essentially it will be a completely different palette because the formula is different and the shadows won’t perform and look the same as the original ones. Am I correct? Hope you understand what I’m trying to say 😅 I don’t own any of her palettes, yet, but I’m still debating which one to get, I just want one, so it is quite a decision to make. This is such a great question and I believe the answer is... you should get the same palette/formula/quality as what I have for example. That's been the feedback from people who have picked it up recently. Which is wildly interesting because it shows that perhaps its not an ingredient issue that is causing her not to include that formula in new releases but actually a choice?
