I'm a Yank who knows diddlysquat about your football. But I came across Pat in Kevin Cummins brilliant collection of Joy Division photos. He's a solid dude for sure. Much respect from a fellow JD acolyte.

Football couldn’t understand Pat. Players were expected to be thickos with little education and most were! He was a very clever guy and had many interests which he couldn’t share with his fellow players. He was however a football genius as his videos show. Imagine Celtic telling him at 16 he wouldn’t make it. Coaching in that era was non existent. Messi would have been told the same!
I have always liked Pat, as a player and as a intelligent man ... I loved it when he came to my club Tranmere Rovers. As what Spectrescup said below Tony Gubba was a very good Football Journalist, you can say the same of Pat Nevin however his portfolio goes beyond football.
