It's so interesting watching the evolution of the defenses from the 80's to now, the paint was so crowded and then as the 3 ball became king over time its far more difficult to defend that amount of space
@@ricardolozano5356 yea as much as I like Phil ,he didn’t have the ability to make water into wind like Pat did nor did he take on the biggest challenges like that Pat did with NY and Miami...Phil went to and won for organizations that didn’t(IMO)appreciate him enough to give him power or maybe he didn’t want it.I consider Pat the best to ever do it and Phil the greatest two different meanings ....with Pop being close 2nd to both categories.
@@ricardolozano5356, Riley took over a Lakers team that had just won a title and had Kareem and Magic and then drafted Worthy, how TF were they struggling when he took over? And throughout his career he’s had the benefit of having some of the best players to coach, that helps a lot. I’m not saying he’s not a great coach or team builder after the Lakers, but he started on a stacked team for sure.
Yea the Knicks especially cuz he totally changed his style up from the Lakers. Then he continued that during his first run with the Heat. He might have won titles with both of them had it not been for MJ.
@@anthonyanderson9303 Yeah he did an U - turn with the Knicks and made them defensive slow grinding machine, compared to the Lakers being offensive show time. I think him and Phil Jackson are the the best coaches of the last 40 years.
5:16 Every time I think of this series, I always remember Pat Riley yelling at his players to bring only one suit to Game 6 because they were only going to play one game lmfao.
Not recommended, most historically innacurate docuseries ever, and after antagonism from kareem west and magic suddenly the show claim its a drama. Worse is, the show's stan stand by it even attacking the real west kareem and magic accusing them of trying to save face bcos this "docu" show their real color lmfao what a joke of a series, and the stans are bigger joke
It's really impressive that he was able to win with the best players in basketball in the 80s and then come back in the late 2000s and win with the best players in the league again. Normally people win with only the worst players but this guys ability to take the best players to the championship is amazing.
it was wade williams walker o'neal haslem posey payton mourning then a tiny bit of shandon and doleac actually ...no terry...posey williams and walker were huge ..payton was old as was zo..they had key moments but not seasons
Was actually a key cog that year in 72. Apparently he and West were extremely tight since he subbed in for West to run the second unit. That team was utterly disgusting, with Baylor, Wilt and West running that first unit. The original big 3.
I think the amazing part is that's all he has... Watch the video James worthy gets the steal passes to magic with Kareem running the floor just in case how is that ever fair?
Pat was good coach no great...he was so lucky that the lakers back on the early 80s got serious injury n the have all the position cover... He was failure in new York n not so much of because of mj n the bulls but he over worked his players in practice during the playoffs..he did it with the laker causing an injury to majic n i think Scott too.....
@@ricardolozano5356 yes jordan was already a start but with a losing team the same with Kobe n with kobe was worst because he had shaq n losing series 4-0 .....phil came they started winning...riley got a team full of starts kareem majic ma few other n already had won 1 or 2 championships big difference......do your research better
@@balmorehernandez2226 Miami went from winning 30 games to reaching the Eastern conference finals with in 2 years when Riley took over the Knicks team went from a team that barely made the playoffs to becoming title contenders
@@ricardolozano5356 playoffs teams means nothing buddy...there are a lot of teams the make the playoffs for many year n won nothing....lakers were being eliminated 4 -0 4-1 n were frustrated ns o was was frustrated.. Get your information right dude....
riley took the knicks to game 7 of the finals...he almost got a 10th ring an a ring in every decade including the college one he has in the 60's...he was one blocked shot from it
No, he's not. Jackson is great when he has an all time team. He's a one trick pony. Running the triangle is cool and all when you have all time great post up players. You do that with the Knicks (like he forced the coach to do), you will win 20-30 games. Meanwhile Riley coached three different teams and all of those teams played a different style of basketball. He took a terrible Knicks team with two CBA players, made both of them stars and took the Bulls to seven games one year later. Jackson can coach superstars. Riley can coach pretty much any team into the playoffs.
You gave Riley credit for a chip as a player on the Lakers. However, you didn't count Jackson's chips as a player on the Knicks. If Riley has nine chips then Jackson has 13. I call shenanigans!
He definitely should be credited for the Heat championship as Heat's president. Unlike Van Gundy, he knew he had a great coach in Spolestra and nixed the idea of coaching LeBron, Wade and Bosh.
Love that. Great compilation. What a time capsule. Just enough to make me want to go back and watch each full game of each clip (or series). All those great, great players. Future Hall Of Famers in their prime.
Paul Westhead could have won the Lakers championships if it wasn't for Magic. If Riley did anything, he lost Championships for the Lakers 83,84. 86, they lost to the Rockets. Very overrated.
This is all you need to know. Robert Horry was a role player with the RIGHT team at the RIGHT time! Yes he made a shot here and there his 7 rings are OVERRATED
