I don't think the progression is always about the trainers, sometimes players just have a ridiculously low peak age which stunts their growth early. I often edit that seems to make it a little more realistic at times.

Matt, next time you do a miami heat rebuild, you should try and move Jimmy butler to the PG position. I've done it in a few of my rebuilds with the heat and he's averaged anywhere between 8.5-10.5 assists per game

I saw that comment with a ton of likes w ppl raging about trainers lmao. Like sure doing mentorship and filling out training staff properly helps, but if someone has a BS peak start/end age, and/or sht potential, there’s not much you can do beside alter that stuff. Some ppl will legit have like peak start age 25 peak end age 28. So they progress a ton over those years then start regressing. There’s also the boom or bust thing, and some guys just aren’t going to progress as well even w good potential. There’s WAY more to it than training staff. I think the comments told SROS to alter touches and not just shot tendency when he wants ppl to take more or less shots, and he listened to that. That’s good advice. There’s also shot tendencies from each spot on the court. It’s not like he’s ignoring ppl bc he’s arrogant or something. I’m sure he wants tips on how to fix certain things, but if he’s tried them before and they didn’t work he’s not gonna keep doing it. Also he likely does do mentorship and training staff not on screen (maybe not every rebuild but some surely) a bit. Some stuff has to get cut or vids would all be hours. I know for sure he’s open to suggestions on what ppl wanna see, tips, stuff that’ll improve quality of life, (like faster sim times) or fix some of the broken stuff in the mode like the cap when you’re far in to a rebuild. I know certain settings can help with the issue of really good players getting left in FA bc teams are capped out. Nothing is perfect, but something to do w cap settings and what overalls ask for what. How much potential matters, the cap curve and inflation or w/e. I’ve seen ppl sign like 80+ overalls for min or a bit over (less than MLE) but CPU def has the edge on that. I think a good start would be making ovr matter more for $ and potential a bit less. CPU re-signing aggressiveness up way higher so they don’t let star RFAs walk or not even give them a QO. Then I’d go with auto generated draft classes after 2023 and 2024 drafts at most. User created drafts tend to be OP, & sure especially in March we know a lot of the guys who have a chance to go in the lotto…but look at how much stuff changes just from beginning of a 2K (so 2K23, the ‘22 rookies got drafted very recently when game comes out, but there’s ‘23 classes in Fall, even ‘24 ones not long after) to the end. Ppl had Emoni as an 80+ in a ton not that long ago, now he’s playing at the college my brother went to lmao…literally saw UoM beat them like 63-0 or something irl in football. Bro is 57th on Tankathon’s big board. I’m not tryna defend anything SROS does. I’m a long time sub, even longer time viewer. I’ve left plenty of constructive criticism. Key word is constructive tho. Ppl raging out bc of some silly stuff over a video game is nuts. He obv wants to cater to his audience within reason. If you have a good idea and he sees it, he’s not gonna ignore it out of spite. What good does that do for him? I mostly leave positive comments, even when I’m giving an idea or something I prefer, telling him some trade was nuts, or how he’s wrong about some rule, it’s in good fun. I p much always wish him the best and tell him to keep it up. I’ve prolly said that 500+ times. Ppl need to relax. Btw fun vid Matt!

By the way, Miami actually has their 2023 + 2024 unprotected 1st round picks. they traded their 2025 protected 1st for the 2023 protected back

For rebuilds it’s interesting you can take things a few different ways in 2k I usually just blow up the roster and trade finder every player under contract into first round picks that isn’t considered useful in the future and sign and trade free agent for picks to get an absurd amount of picks which makes it choose your player

I didn’t see SAS roster, but if they were trying to maybe win asap w Pop…I like the Keldon and 5 for Jimmy and 9 trade. Fair enough value, & you def want defense around Herro. Keldon isn’t a lockdown, but he’s a solid defender and seems to be working on creation/having ball in hands more. Can shoot. Can play him at a lot of positions in 2K. Ideally IRL Herro is eventually good enough to be PG, that way he’s the smallest guy on the court. Him, Bam, a 6”8+ 3&D PF like Jerami Grant, or a big that can space the floor & help at rim (JJJr type that can consistently shoot 36%+ on 4att+) but both archetypes are hard AF to find. AG is a solid fit w Bam, but DEN is never moving him AND MPJr unless it was for like Jaylen Brown and Grant Williams or something like that. He’s too perfect w Jokic, good contract. He’s not the best 3P shooter, but that’s ok when Jokic can shoot, Murray, KCP, MPJr is a sniper, etc. You’d want a bit better shooter w Bam but he’s close to perfect. MIA prolly should’ve just offered a crazy package for Jerami in hindsight, problem is their only matching $ was Duncan. They were hoping Lowry would be like 75% of himself and he’s like 25% which is a big issue. They do have picks tho, and they’re always willing to spend. I think you said limited picks or w/e. They only owe one out. ‘25 protected to OKC that becomes unprotected in ‘26. So this summer they can trade their ‘23, ‘28, and ‘30 1sts. Also swaps in ‘27/‘29. Those late picks are juicy bc Jimmy will be gone. Bam will be UFA, and he’d be entering his age 29 season in 26-27 the first swap year if it’s a ‘27 swap. Age 30 the ‘28 1st year, age 32 for ‘30 1st. So if they did ‘28, ‘29 swap, ‘30 1st that’s 30-32 for Bam and his current deal ends after 25-26. Lowry will be on a $29.68M expiring this summer too so perfect trade chip. Duncan will have 2/37.5M gtd left in 23-24/24-25, then only $9,888,888 gtd in 25-26. So that’s not a huge deal. You can dump that to a cap team for some seconds and some cash that yr. So rly he’ll have 2yrs left on his deal. It won’t be atrocious next season, and summer of ‘24 he’ll damn near be an expiring. Starting 23-24 they’re going to be a tax team for the foreseeable future tho. They’ve ducked the tax b4 then so no worries about the repeater tax for a few years. Jimmy will have 3yrs left on his huge extension so it’s possible they can fade the repeater. You trigger it by being in the tax 3/4 seasons. So if you’re in tax 3 in a row, if you’re in it that 4th year you’re in repeater. Like MIL/LAC/LAL we’re all in the tax in 20-21, 21-22, and now 22-23. They’ll all be in the repeater tax assuming they’re in the tax in 24-25. LAC/MIL it’s like impossible to avoid, LAL they’d have to gut their roster and say sign Kyrie w cap space. Then they’d avoid it, but that’s incredibly unlikely. Maybe MIA can be in tax in 23-24/24-25/25-26 then not be in 26-27. That’s possible w Jimmy’s final yr of deal being in 25-26. He has a $52.4M PO that season. It’ll be his age 36 season. So he will certainly opt in to that. Then if he’s still even good, and wants to play, they’ll sign him but it’ll be for WAYYYY less than $52.4M. Even if he was still worth like 1yr $20M (cap will be wayyy higher bc of TV $ kicking in 25-26, it’ll likely get spread out over like 3yrs, let’s say 10% cap raises in 25-26, 26-27, and 27-28) and only wanted to play 1 more yr, if MIA was close to the tax for 26-27, they might sign him to a 3yr deal for like $9M, $9.72M, $10.44M with Y1 fully gtd, Y2 partially gtd for $6M, Y3 partially gtd for $5.5M. That way he gets his $20M (extra $500K for waiting an little bit for $11M of it) some of it) but MIA saves another $11M that year. Obv only if they needed to, but you can do stuff like that. They can just immediately waive him after the first year and he gets the full partially gtd $ from Y2/Y3.

Hey Matt, not a criticism but I noticed something you do consistently on rebuilds. Not sure if it’s on purpose or accident but when the scouting prompts come up throughout the season you always skip them or let CPU take care of it. I’ve noticed you can scout guys a lot better by doing the following and it’s pretty easy. Scout pick one, two, and three to start. Simulate until one of the pick(s) reaches ‘100 percent scouted’. Then all you do from there is pick the next pick to fill it’s spot. You can typically fully scout the 10 each year

I know the heat more than likely never would, but I’d lowkey love for them to retool / rebuild this off-season by trading Jimmy for a young player and picks. Build around Bam and Tyler and get your lottery protected pick next year and build around that. If I’m not mistaken they owe one pick(?) and then have a clean slate + what you got from the Jimmy Trade. Not really sure what Lowry could get at this stage, a very late first round pick at best but realistically 2-3-4 seconds (thinking of the trade value at this past trade deadline), but could also be good locker room presence since Udonis is retiring.
