We have been testing out the upcoming (and much anticipated!) Patagonia Nano Air Ultralight Full Zip jacket. This ultralight jacket has 20g of Fullrange active insulation, just enough to take the chill off when doing activities in cool weather.
This will launch in early 2025, along with some other nice offerings from Patagonia. Stay tuned for more coverage and a full review in a few months!

This jacket looks really interesting. Love the super light insulation approach. This might be the missing part of my outdoor setup. Used to rock their R1 Techface jacket for those mixed conditions but sometimes I’d like to have some lighter piece with more breathability while hiking. Gotta love Patagonia… great stuff, great company. Thx for your effort, Sean! Always appreciated! Cheers from Germany! 🖖

Hello! 👋 if you liked the R1 tech face, then you will love this. It’s even light, packs up well. And moves with your body. Love it! Cheers!

An interesting new piece from Patagonia. As a hiker I prefer 2 separate layers for versatility: an Alpha 60 hoodie plus a breathable, hooded wind shirt. My 2 items together weigh 5.15oz. Being able to separate or combine the two layers gives me comfort when active from just below freezing up to about 40-45F when all I need usually is just a base layer anyway.

That sounds like a great setup, and very versatile! Incredibly light weight too. I am trying to wrap my head around the combo being only 5.15oz.

@@Engearment My combo is a Senchi Wren hoody at 94.8g (this is now called the Senchi Alpha 60 - the earlier version called the Wren was a bit lighter) . My wind shirt is a custom Enlightened Equipment Copperfield in the 7D option which weighs 51.1g a super breathable and, so far, surprisingly durable piece (for hiking though, not climbing!).

@@Engearment I’m guessing the 5.15oz total for both of the described pieces are not men’s XL. I have a Senchi 60, and a Dooy wind shirt combo, both in men’s XL, and the combo weighs 7.22oz (4.33 Senchi, 2.89 Dooy). Still super light and, yes, more versatile than the Patagonia. Even more versatile is my Senchi 60 and Montbell Versalite though. For not much more weight (11.24oz total) it works in wind AND rain. I do really want to see if this is as comfortable as the normal Nano Air though, as it’s my favorite single jacket I own in terms of comfort. I’ll be annoyed by the lack of pockets, but otherwise it should be nice. Does it feel like the Airshed Pro on the exterior? If so, then my Senchi 60/Airshed Pro combo might be preferred over this.

Looks awesome, especially for rock climbing in the Fall or early Spring. Thanks for the great video, Sean

Yes!! Been waiting for this category of jacket from Patagonia. Going to be amazing for snow shoeing. I have a R1 Techface, but find it a bit heavy.

Wow cool. I wonder if they will create a pullover variant too.. it could be the return of the coveted 'Nano-Air Light Hoody' (the lighter pullover version released in 2016 with the high alpine kit). Cheers Sean!

The Nano-Air Light Hoody is by far my favourite piece of outdoor clothing. Period. I regret not having purchased two back when it was still available.

Looks like an exciting jacket! Aside from less insulation, how would you compare this with the nano-air light hybrid jacket?
@Engearment
@Engearment День назад
Great question! I am going to do a head to head video here soon. But basically, this one is lighter, more packable, not as warm yet more wind resistant (in the back area). Making it great for all around use. I think the hybrid will be better for cold 15-30F activity with a pack on. But I will report back on that as soon as temps drop. Take care!

Dang, that's a well-designed jacket. How does the fabric feel so far? My first generation nano-air and nano-air hybrid has been used so much that it pill and frayed to the point of being unusable. The second generation didn't fit me very well, the hem was too big and either unclosable or weird to close. This one looks a lot better and honestly, 60g was too much for running, cross-country skiing, or hiking in anything but the coldest day. So this jacket would be great for fast or steep days. I am just praying that the elastic closure actually closes for me. Also, do you have any words on the DWR? Many of my favorite softshells have been really disappointing in that department recently.
@Engearment
@Engearment День назад
Great questions! I agree with the awkward fit on gen 2. And that 60g is a bit much for what I like in the winter (touring). I hope this face fabric stands up. It feels very nice. The inner cuffs might make a big difference on the durability. We shall see… 😎 But overall, I am a bit obsessed with this jacket 😆. Wearing it now at 10,200ft while hiking around. It’s perfect for this. Take care!

Not sold. I got a nano weight wind breaker from another company. Then I got a nano weight rain jacket which is sooo similar in every way except it doesn’t wet out. Now I just don’t know the purpose of the wind breaker. It stays home.

My man! Wow! Love it, and talk about nailing the fit! I currently use the R1 TechFace Hoody over my baselayer when skinning up - wind resistance, plus some warmth and dumps heat well. When this comes out, I may try this instead - any thoughts? Thanks again, look forward to your full review and hopefully seeing you on Sean’s Run! ⛷️🏂

You are the best, Paul! And great question. I love the R1 tech face too. Such a good piece. I picked up two of them just to make sure I always have one 😆 I like this one as it plays nicely with layers (as it is smooth texture) and packs up smaller. You may appreciate that angle as well. 😎
