I accidently stumbled across this video. I am late Dr. P.V. Karambelkar's grandson. I remember him teaching to many enthusiastic students about the sutras free of charge at our home post retirement. And practising yoga for hours in the morning. Glad to see you spreading his work.

Thank you so much Hemal ji, it’s amazing to hear from you! Dr. PV Karambelkar’s work has been such an inspiration and is so so relevant and important in the study of the Yoga sutras 🙏🏼 I was introduced to his work since I was born and brought up in Kaivalyadhama Mumbai and have lived in Kaivalyadhama for the last several years! We study Karambelkar Ji’s work as a part of all our courses and study and his contribution to the Yoga field is absolutely invaluable! Always indebted to his work, service and life contribution 🙏🏼

The yoga has an exoteric and esoteric meaning. It should be pointed out. He is saying the entire yoga all the Padas we will discuss are NOW. Are simultaneous. This is knowledge of experience in presence. Just as silence is the highest teaching “Now” holds the whole truth in one word or vehicle. Because Patanjali was also a mystic we will short change ourselves if we do not strive to relate each word to the Real and ourselves and now. Remembering the sutras are stitches, they are short and practical and secure he does not add extemporaneous dialogue. A yogi comes to believe that every moment is of great importance. If patanjali can enlighten someone in the first word then he will do so saving his effort and the yogis. This is throughout the sacred writings of many Vedic texts we encounter. The truth is offered first and if you don’t get it you stick around for the teaching offered in kind. I think it’s such a wonderful and generous things the great sages do. Their preference is to be in silence so they try to start from the end and go back to their nature. And in doing so they point to other great teachings. Because where we find the end we find the beginning. The mystic only tells the truth. The mystical appears the way silver does in mother of pearl. It’s just a feature of the Truth

Hey! I don't know when you are going to see this comment but thank you for uploading the short lectures on Patanjali yoga sutras. It is helping me in my spiritual journey. Although I have been introduced to Yoga Sutras through Readings of Swami Vivekananda on Raja Yoga. I was practising Raja Yoga on my own by reading Swami ji's book. I wanted to explore more on Raja Yoga and there seems a connection between Raja yoga and Patanjali yoga sutra. so, i bought a commentary on yoga sutra by Swami Vivekananda. and in 1.1 swami ji has mentioned the meaning of sutra as ' Now concentration is explained' which is quite different from what you are explaining! What are your thoughts on that and have you read different commentators on yoga sutras or just the Dr P.V. karambelkar book?

Mam I have doubt ... How we reach to kaivalya... Can you define it in easy words...it will be a great contribution to my dissertation. I have to submit my dessertation as soon as posssible.plz help me if you can
@YogicGurukul
@YogicGurukul 2 года назад
Hey Amal! That's an incredible question and I wish there was one simple answer to it :) Instead of Kaivalya, we can start with Chitta-vritti-nirodah, which can take place through (1) Abhyas & Vairagya (2) Ishwar Pranidhan and (3) the Ashtanga Yoga process of all 8 limbs of Yoga - Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. Out of these - the special focus needs to be on - Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi, specifically on Nirbija Samadhi - which will lead to Kaivalya over a period of long Abhyasa and practice. Hope that helps and all the best for your dissertation :)

Namaskaram 🙏 I am happy to see the efforts that you are putting in...Just want to add one more perspective of the word 'Sutra'....Sutra is a thread that one needs to hold to reach the destination...when we we say Patanjali Yoga Sutras....it means this is a thread that one need to follow step by step or take a step based on the position....To understand the sutras in the right essence only when we reach to the before step we will have more clarity about the next step....

Is there mindfulness meditation or focusing on breathing or body sensations in Yoga/Hinduism. Or do they only exist in Buddhism. Note: I am talking about Mindfulness Meditation only not other forms like Mantra or Chakra Meditation.
@YogicGurukul
@YogicGurukul 3 года назад
Hi! Good question - in traditional Yoga, mindfulness, meditation and Yoga are all synonymous terms, we have Prana Dharana (Focus of breath) as well as Deha Dharana (focus of body sensations) in Yoga as core parts of the practice and philosophy. Buddhism and Yoga are very closely interlinked and have overlapping concepts and theories 🙏🏼

See its good translation but not a better understanding, now begins yoga. Which is absolutely right you know people work for many life times to get enlightenment or kaivalya. In this path of enlightenment, one should learn many things from life a person got and from life cycles a person got. And the movement when learnt and experience for what a person came for than the soul should reach an ultimate state. For that the only path is yoga so he said, yes it's done you have completed your work for what you came for, so its time for kaivalya. And Now you're ready to do yoga (Now begins yoga)

this lecture is for foreigners not Indians Most Indian knowingly or unknowingly know the basic that this lady is explaining...this is because of language and lots of talk given by various gurus....do something else....like shiva samhitas, hatha yoga pradipika, and Gheranda samhita or commentaries by various gurus/teachers.

Ofcourse Indians know the philosophy - as we are living it in our daily lives, but studying the Sutras is also an important process - for both Indians and non Indians. Also, we will definitely cover more theories and Sutras - we started with Patanjali Yoga Sutras as it is the foundational text of Raja Yoga. Have a great day ahead.
