DIY sew these beautiful patchwork Current/Elliot-look-a-like jeans with Threadhead TV. Even if you wanted to pay the price for these designer jeans, they are sold out on Anthropologie, Barneys, and other high-end retailers. You can see why - they are awesome. With some time and a few supplies, you can DIY these for $20-$30, depending if you already have denim ready to upcycle or not.
Supplies:
(besides the obvious sewing machine, ruler, scissors)
1 pair jeans as your base
3 different shades of denim (wrong side of denim fabric will be your 4th shade)
2 spools topstitching thread
1 spool navy thread (jean preferable)
Jeans/denim sewing machine needles
TWIN sewing machine needle (MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT SIZE AS THE WRONG SIZE WAS SHOWN IN VIDEO. Correct size would be 6.0/100 for inseams).

Keep trying! This is a more intermediate project so if you are a beginner, keep sewing and you'll get there. Practice really does make perfect. And watching others' tips and tricks. Thanks for stopping by!

On any felled seams, hammer them down to reduce the thickness and set in the fold. Do it at any thick areas of seam.

tom pahdea I’ve been sewing many years and I’ve never heard of hammering seams. So great you left this feedback- will try

@@ThreadheadTV Most times you see jeans seams being hammered is where are are a number that run together such as the crotch or pocket corners. Don't do it so much as to ake it the same thickness as other seams but just to reduce the generasl thickness. it does help sometumes when sewing.

If you reserse them insidepout and put a couple water soluable ink lines down each leg you can distingish in what order are the pieces. I would recomend that if you do the line mehod to distinguish which is which you may want to mark the seam sides by a code such as L1 (left side #1)on the top of the bottom piece and thrn on the seond piece L2 (left #2)If you use upholstery grade thread you can eliminate the secoind sewing. Then tou can match which side goes with the accompanying side. If you use different color marker then you know which jeans each piece came from unless the difference is so noticeable that a different color is uncessary but the lines should be distinct.

Would there-hypothetically be a way that you could measure your legs individually and then cut a pattern? WOuld be cool to just go to goodwill, pick up a bunch of denim, and measure it out. Looks great tho. Thanks!

Yes - absolutely - take a pair of pants/jeans you already own and use it as your pattern. Just remember to add the 5/8" seam allowance around the perimeter of your pattern when you trace around. Hope it works out... I have so many denim projects I want to do... some day, one day. :)

For an absolute beginner, can we stitch the patches straight into a ragged jean that fits well, without having to cut it open at the seams and actually reconstructing the whole pant? Please say YES!
@ThreadheadTV
@ThreadheadTV 3 года назад
Yes, of course! You’d have to hand sew them on but it certainly would be a great idea for a beginner. Also, Shibori, the Japanese art of stitching over patches is another hand sewn treatment that I want to try. So beautiful!

Wouldn’t It be easier to just just buy 3 yards of denim of each color. Ruining all those pairs of pants sounds silly. The pants look cool but I would not want patches that have Been washed 100 times. Better to use brand new fabric.

Hi, Daniel - thanks for your comment. Of course that's a great idea! I like the look of the worn denim and I'm using jeans that would have been otherwise thrown away so I like the fact that I'm saving landfills. But of course use new denim if that's best or easiest - definitely. I have some new denim in my stash too that I haven't yet used but will get to it some day, one day. I want a pair of these for me. :) These projects take a lot of work so by all means use fabric that you know is great quality and will hold up. Thanks for visiting! Hope to hear from you again.

There are parts of worn out jeans that have loads of life left in them. Why throw away a pair of jeans with worn out knees when there's plenty of good material elsewhere on them? The patches saved from old jeans have a history (can be especially potent if they're your old jeans, or those of a loved one), they tell a story and have a load more character than using new fabric. It's also reusing instead of sending more stuff to landfill. It's always best to reuse than buy new when you can.
