I'm 50 and can't thank you enough. I don't have the energy to look all this stuff up. You would make a great teacher of how easy and calm you explain things. We thank you for always helping us and giving all POE and Diablo updates. I'm looking forward to season 5 and POE 2. This old Man has your back. Keep crushing it buddy!
As someone with 4k hours in this game I love what Raxx has done here. This is exactly the kind of hand holding a new player needs to push through the barrier of entry to this amazing game. I wish I had a guide like this when I started as it would have made it a lot easier.
bro can i play this build and guide with witch? i though i had to create witch since no one helped me to say it was templar, these creators forget to say which character we should chose in the beginning
Ignore all the hate comments brother. You and DM were my biggest inspirations to actually buckle down and learn the game this league and I’m happy I followed through with it
One of the best actual beginner videos I’ve seen. Many of the other ones rely on beginners to understand terminology or concepts we haven’t grasped yet. You break down these things to a very understandable, basic level. Many thanks and a sub to you!
Correct Bandit Rewards (50:30) Kraityn: 8% increased Movement Speed Alira: +15% to all Elemental Resistances Oak: +40 to maximum Life Eramir: 1 Passive Skill Point Most important takeaway with this one: Use poewiki and not the fandom one.
@@domi06021988the bandit choice is really just up to personal preference. Ziz mentions in the video for this build that the movement speed is just because they wanna move faster, but resistances can make earlier gearing easier, and the life can be good because the build doesn’t get a ton of flat life on the atlas tree. Later on you can spec 20 orbs of regret to change your bandit if you want to
@@dbasonic485 nope. The problem was that I was trying to learn everything all at once. Information overload. Once I started taking in and learning little bits at a time that's when it all clicked
Good luck with POE bro, it's really hard as a new player I can't lie and you will be very overwhelmed but trust me, push through it, watch lots of videos on stuff you don't understand and it will make it all worth it. The game is simply amazing and addictive lol.
Just made it to act 6 today and started to feel really overwhelmed and out of my depth in a humbling way, open youtube to find a guide...this is the top recommended. Perfect.
When I first started playing Poe I bricked my build around act 6. If I could go back and give myself advice, I would say to use gear with the most usable links, use gear that solely increases my big damage multipliers (even if that means using a magic item over a rare, quality > quantity on item mods), and not be afraid of spamming some alterations on one of my life flasks to get anti-bleed. Also if you aren’t following a build guide, nodes in the center of the tree have lower values than those on the outside, hence why scion can really struggle early game. Focus on using those nodes for utility as you path outwards towards higher values.
Dude, thank you. Short and straight to the point. Most videos i tried to watch are 4-5 hours and by the middle i already forgot the beginning ... Finally someone who just says this is this and that is that without 1 hour of needles math explanations that i do not need as a new player. And the crafting segment was just brilliant. Really good video.
I watched the whole video and THIS beginner guide video is a GEM for new players. Thanks for taking the time making this one and explaning everything in details without going crazy too technical. Cheers!
Raxx.. you probably hear it everyday but.. you are amazing man. I’m actually blasting and having so much fun now that I can wrap my head around this game. You’re seriously a great teacher lol
I've played MANY POE leagues and this guide still taught me a few things. That's wild. Just goes to show how much content there is in POE and how concise this beginners guide is.
Thanks for writing such a guide. I bough the game a few years back, but never understood the "basics" correctly as I was overwhelmed. This guide has given me a new chance to get past some early hurdles and I am now able to enjoy this banger of an awesome game. Thank you for helping us new/old players back into the game!
One of the best guides I have seen for PoE so far. I am a new player and have been overwhelmed and confused, especially regarding all of the different currencies and how/when to obtain gems and the linking mechanic. The way this video is structured makes things very easy to follow.
I’m a Diablo/ Median player and I’ve never been able to fully grasp POE because of the little nuances. I’m 40 minutes into this video and I feel like I can finally play the game and not the game play me. Thanks a lot for this Raxx.
I started this league for the first time this league and made it to act 8 so far. Its really cool but the single hardest thing for me is getting item upgrades. I still have no concept of getting to the items referenced in the PoBs. Thanks for the videos - helping a ton
You usually farm currency and buy those items, but in campaign and early maps you have to worry only about resistances mostly. If you have a good HP pool and decent dmg then you are fine
Same here as well, got to act 8. Tried loading up into PoB and it is just 1 whole big list of numbers and words, it puts me off and I just close it. Its like the rocket science of ARPG. Also for some reason somewhere the passive tree skills points and my skills points in game doesnt tally up..im sure I did all the quests available.
I’ve put over 2000 hours in POE and I am still not someone that can look at an item and tell you exactly what you need to craft to make it better but the quick and dirty upgrades during the campaign usually, you can just use essences from essence monsters for example essence of contempt this league is very popular because it creates an item with physical damage. You then hope to get a good second or third stat to make the item useful. Then you can use the crafting bench to add another useful stat to make the item good.. Awesome I would recommend not blowing currency on buying items until your further along. Most of the campaign can be beaten in very basic gear as long as you have high life and resistances.
@@onimeno86 you are not the same level as the one in PoB, but you should have a drop down/up in the bottom left of the skill tree where you choose the skill tree at certain points for example skill tree for act 5 or act 7 or early maps, etc.
As someone who bounced off PoE a couple times but is following a guide this time like Raxx recommends here is a tip that nobody explains and was not obvious to me...I could just be dumb though too 😄 Youll get to a point in the guide where they have you equipping more skill gems than you have ability slots which really confused me. Took me a minute to realize I could activate things like auras that stay on, then change the ability slot to a different ability entirely. I just assumed if you unequipped an ability it would stop functioning. Hope that helps someone else.
@@c-tothefourth4879 I agree you don't "need" to. Just giving another option. I like to be able to see it is active by pressing control. I could see a new player messing with their gems, it turning off, and never knowing.
Raxx this is an amazing guide and you are awesome at teaching. I have 200 hours on POE but never got the grip on it until now. Also watched the whole 96 minutes and felt like 10.
Great vid. I am a brand new player to this game, and started 5 days ago. I watched Woolie's beginner videos, and between the two of you, I think most things are covered. One thing that is not really clear for both is Examples of all (or most) of the Mechanics to ignore in the campaign. For a true newbie, it is very overwhelming to come across all of the content from prior leagues that you really don't have to engage with.
You don't have to engage with any mechanics during the campaign if you don't want to. But trying them a few times as you progress through the acts can be a good way to slowly familiarize yourself with.
The way you broke down crafting made soooo much sense and helps me understand how to get the required gear! That was the simplest explanation of crafting I have ever seen for poe
A quick correction for using chromatic orbs to recolor sockets: the socket color chances aren't based off armor type, they're based off of the items attribute requirements. For example a unique item with the requirements of 100 str, 60 int, and 30 dex would be much more likely to get either red or blue sockets than green.
My first league after playing d4 and le. Ill say, poe has deterred me from buying the d4 expansion. Ive been really addicted to poe and enjoying the learning curve which keeps the game fresh, to me atleast.
Brand new player...watched this video and started playing the game. I just completed ACT 10 and started maps. I'm having a blast! Thanks for all the great guidance.
I probably sound like a loser for saying this but you cannot imagine how much true beginners needed this, sure it started slow but I remember when I started playing this game there was nothing explaining it, and the first few hours playing the game as the most confusing, well, thats a lie, the game never stops getting confusing but its important to create a good base, this makes it easier for us to keep going. Most "beginners" guides for PoE start promising, like, I am going to show you how to do blights as a beginner, and then proceeds to say things like, grab your map, add this oils, then come here and make sure your veins are clean, activate the towers and make sure this path is blah blah blah, and I am still asking myself, what the hell is an oil? where do I find a map? and how do the mechanics work? where is all that! so if you see beginners guide in PoE, beginners = 1000 hours of played time... give or take ;) So hard to find real noobie guides here.... thank you so much for this
exactly and that's why chat was screaming for this guide because so many people dont have 1k+ hours in this game and this league is drawing a lot of new players to the game because of the exciting mechanic
This was the exact phenomenon happening with me trying to learn the basics of the game. Even simple stuff like "Ok, I need a B-B-B-R for my build" was stumping me. Neither the game nor build guides bother to explain the order of the sockets is (usually) irrelevant, so my first league back in 3.19 was spent being pissed when I needed that item and could only find B-R-B-B "useless" items lol. Then trying to watch crafting guides to figure out how to fix things I was missing was useless, because it's usually someone pulling up a website datasheet instead of explaining what an Orb of Alchemy does. It cannot be stressed enough how little a new player knows about the in-game systems. Dumb it down and explain it to me like I'm a toddler. Give me the absolute fundamental base knowledge needed to understand more complex concepts down the road.
I had been back and forth on playing PoE this last week. I saw your video yesterday and started playing. I had no idea what I was doing but saw googled what became the hierophant and rolled a character and got to lvl 10 last night. This, once I've finished watching, I'm sure will certainly help me have a much better understanding of what I should be doing and looking for going forward. So thanks!
Super helpful video, as a new player coming from LE and D4 I finally decided to take the plunge and give POE a try with this guide. The barrier of entry and learning curve on this game is immense, however let me tell you, so freaken worth it dude. The key takeaways I got from you that really helped were to just chill and not try understand and do everything the first go. Follow guides like this one and the knowledge comes later. I'm now level 81 running maps with firestorm busy making the transition to ice nova, and let me tell you dude, I legit love this game. Your guide made that possible, thank you.
The best Video for understanding this game, I tried getting into this game quit a few times, but got so overwhelmed that I just quit right before mapping, or I would screw up my build b/c I didn't know about POB. love this style of content, especially that someone can have this video up on a second monitor and have it as a reference while playing for any question they may have. Great Job!
This is a great video Raxx. You should do this for all kinds of builds. One of the reasons I really like Pohx is that he puts out a PoB, but he also a wiki and multiple long videos on his builds. That is the only way to help new players. A PoB is really a tool for experts imo. You need a tutorial on PoB by itself. A video is much better - everyone can watch and pause a video as they play and listen to you explain it. Best way to learn imo. Pohx does the same thing and it's great. He actually runs through the entire campaign in a single video, talking through everything as he plays in real time. This is a good direction for you because you're also good at explaining things.
Pohxs build seems great for beginners I've followed it twice and am trying this build this season. Also console player should become familiar with pohx his build is very consol friendly
Amazing guide for somebody who touched POE for the first time. You covered pretty much all questions I had to begin with in a simple language that is easy to understand. I struggled with finding a proper gear for my Necro minions build and didn't know much of a thing how to craft gear properly, so now I'm blasting after using your guide in practice! Keep on doing things you do and thanks for the quality content❤
All the people in here saying they will just wait for PoE2 are likely the same people that when they run into the smallest problem in their builds because they dont understand what they are doing wrong, will just blame the game again. Dont hope for easier gameplay, work towards understanding what is happening. Thats the core of PoE, its a game built around theory crafting. If its not for you, fair enough. But dont dog the game because you dont get it.
@c-tothefourth4879 Yes. And it's a bad thing, not a good thing. I'm not saying make the game simpler, either. I'm saying make it less opaque, so people know what is going on. Some things would be really easy to make iy easier to understand for new players. For example, adding optional damage numbers in the settings, or just have a special training dummy who shows the numbers if you dont want the monster combat to be changed, so new people can see what gems actually do for their effectiveness without having to go into an external calculator or program and do math. Just immediate and convenient results. They could also have a new player option that tells the player when they should focus on what things, basically just the same as what Raxx did here, but also make it so old players could skip it. Basically just update/'fix' the tutorial to be more useful to the current state of the game. Being opaque and hard to understand what is actually happening usually isn't a good kind of difficulty in single player pve games. Some games it is good, but usually they have to be built around that and not be very complex, and the opaqueness of PoE is probably the games biggest flaw/problem since the game is so deep. I have no issue having to figure things out, but if I'm going to go through the trouble of doing so, I don't want things that should be giving me feedback about my choices to be blackboxed and have to seek outside programs.
@@liarwithagun but all of that is solved by simply using a build guide. Not every guide is beginner friendly, you're going to have that, but it explains everything that is happening with the build and why they are choosing to do it that way. The other side of this is if a player DOESNT want to use a build guide, then they need to understand it's going to take some reading and understanding of what the gems do whether they be support or skill based gems. All of the info is there if people just take the time to read it and understand it. Theory crafting builds don't happen overnight like streamers make it seem. As for the practice dummy and damage numbers option, everything is spelled out in the skills description on your hot bar, literally just hover over it and it explains what is happening. Sometimes it shouldn't need to be as simple as big numbers = good build. You need an understanding of percentages and a break down of how resistance penetration works. Again, PoE is not supposed to be a simple game. If someone plays it and finds it's not for them or they don't want to do the work to make their builds work, then they should just move on.
@@liarwithagun I should follow up with the points you're making are not wrong or incorrect in any way, that's just not the type of game that this is and people should stop expecting it
When I was learning what helped me "learn the most" was when following a guide and you jump from say 12 to 25 in the POB and you have a bunch of new nodes to grab read what they say and try to understand how that benefits your build
That's because it never was, but I have strong hope that POE2 will be beginner friendly without sacrificing any of the complexities from the first game.
To be honest, videos like this need to stress to set some basic goals your first league, Poe is such a massive game you’re not going to be blasting t17s your first league, just like you aren’t gonna be a mythic raider your first three months playing WoW, even if it’s not mechanically difficult there’s just so much to learn to really ring out your characters efficiency.
You just have to love this guy. Idk why i watched this because ive been playing poe for years but somehow i was still drawn to watch the whole thing lol. Even learned some stuff at the end there. As always Raxx, another perfect video for beginners and very well explained. Cheers
Really appreciate this video!! I’ve been dipping my toes in the past 2-3 seasons but never really got too far. I’ve slowly been piecing everything together and while I just got to maps for my first time, I was completely lost on what to do. This helped answer so many questions I had. How to gear while leveling, I had no idea how important the hideout is + the crafting bench, explaining the mapping helped and the transitioning into the different phases of the game. The plugin you mentioned is also super clutch because I also had no idea what could be considered a good drop to sell. Super great video and this is going to help so much moving forward!!
Man, perfect timing. I’ve been playing the last week, I’m gonna reset, start a new character and follow this guide. I’m 31, been playing games since I was 10. This is hands down the best guide I’ve ever watched for any game. Everything makes so much sense now. Thank you !!
Raxx, your videos on POE are hands down better at breaking down and explaining the small details that all the other POE content creators just assume everyone knows and we really appreciate it. I would strongly suggest you make a video about the mid to end game aspect of linking gems together and how the supports work and make some of the spells so powerful.. also be sure to make a section about how you can upgrade gems and the process for it at the end of LABS. Keep up the stellar work. Also watch you for tons of your D4 content as well. Edit to add, I think the hater comments are coming from currency farmers and sellers and dont want player to be able to easily farm them for themselves.
After playing undecember for months and watching all the poe content I can I think I'm getting close to finally being ready to play with a pretty good understanding about everything. This helped so much. Thank you, rax. You got teaching talent.
Honestly, this guide is brilliant! Thank you Raxx! I have around 400 hours in game, so know a bit but not a lot! the crafting section helped me so much as I always had essences but never used them, instead waiting for something perfect to drop or buy! Honestly this has transformed my hearing! Thank you!
Dude....I used your tips in this vid on a level 65 witch for a necromancer POB build. Omfg did this blow the doors off the game for me!!! Tanking shit that would have wiped me 10 times over before. And slaying at the same time. I still can't find my jaw after it hit the floor!!! Thank you man! Job well done on your part. Mad props to you good sir!!! ✊️
So great! As ive gotten older and have less time to play i didnt have the time to figure out even how to use the guides. This is EXACTLY what i needed.
I appreciate the way you made the basics of Crafting super simple. I've got 500 hrs in PoE and still barely understood how to get the basics down. Loved the video and will gladly watch a part 2 if you ever go more in depth!
I was actually surprised how well I grasped the concepts of this game. They do a good job at explaining imo. But what you’ve done here…it’s a masterclass of guiding people through the mechanics of a game. You have a knack for teaching it seems. I can’t help but be inspired to follow along with this. Looking forward to making a fresh character tonight. Appreciate the work
I have been watching this to actually buckle down and learn this game. Thank you for making a guide that explains it from character creation to end game to include how to craft and get the gear. I do not feel as overwhelmed.
you are becoming one of my favorite youtubers on this platform, i become satisfactory with one arpg and go to the next looking for some type of guide and youre already there as always. most useful poe video out there. thank you
Dang Raxx coming in clutch, I just started playing POE for the first time for 3 hours last night after your video about Archmage Hierophant trying to play this build and hit Level 12. This is going to be incredibly useful! Thanks for all the years of content and im looking forward to more!
Been playing the game for a week and was super fucking lost. Been watching you play other games for a couple months prior to PoE and these guides are incredible. Night and day difference in my experience with the game and I’m really enjoying it, the best part of this video was crafting gear and showing how to buy gear. Keep up the great work.
Raxx, you deserve some serious praise for this video. I'm currently on my 4th stint of PoE, having failed to hang in during the ramp-up/noobie info-overload phase as there's just SO MUCH STUFF that gets thrown at you. While there's an abundance of info out there, it's also part of the problem, since you end up spending as much time (if not more) reading/watching/googling than playing the game, which is discouraging. Somehow you succeeded at creating an elegant, noob-friendly, accessible approach to a first playthrough, something I haven't seen anyone do nearly as well as you do here. You keep it simple, strip it back as much as possible and highlight what to care about and what not, which is invaluable for a new player. Somehow it makes me hopeful to get into mapping and finally progressing into end-game and finding joy in doing so!
Thank you for this. I decided to league start this and its my first time playing the game at a start and trying to do all the content. I chose this build after much research and while I was using the POB and its been good, I am level 81 and into maps and have been struggling with the transition to Nova, and was so confused about crafting the gear I need. My inventory is jam packed with mats. Your a life saver!
I just want to say thank you for the PoE guide recently. It's my second league, and I finally was able to craft and not be daunted by crafting guides, because of how nonchalantly you approached it.
That's a really good in-depth guide, some of the facts were surprises to me. Got into POE 3 days ago and been loving it, playing it for 10 hours a day! Thanks for the video and good luck with the future content!
I wanted to start with the game but was too scared from the amount of content and things you needed to know. This video was EXACTLY what I needed to have a very solid base knowledge to get into the game and know what to do and how to do it. Very good video!!
Beginner's guide by a beginner is just perfect, all the other creators mention way too much detail and people just get lost 1 minute into their video. This is great, you even explain what the abbreviation 'alching' pertains to even tho that might seem obvious to some, great video.
My biggest problem with Raxx is that he wasn't playing this game 10 years ago. I needed someone like you when I started my ARPG journey. I'm glad you're here to help all the new players though, so they don't have to deal with the same struggles we had :)
Man!! What an amazing guide ! I started playing this game like 6 months ago and finished the campaign and i can tell i fucked up hard and couldn’t complete the game despite loving it, but now with you i can guarantee that i will cook in the end game after finishing the campaign this time because of you Really thank you
But one part that i couldn’t understand at the end of the guide where you take your gem and put it in something called divine bluh bluh and then you will get your gem better or something, this part i couldn’t understand
As someone with a lot of hours off and on with PoE but who always fizzles out around maps because I have limited time I knew most of the early game stuff but the mapping and trading parts of this video were very helpful. Always great content Raxx. Keep up the great work.
I just started playing this game and i really can't thank you enough for thix Raxx. Coming from Last Epoch, you have been my favorite ARPG content creator by far.
I’ve been on and off (3 years), and never even got to act 5. With this walkthrough helped build the confidence to play it through. In addition, I enjoy the pinpoints you made on how to get there which in turn all I had to do was to experience it on my own. I’m currently level 22 act 2 and enjoying every moment thank you.
This is a fantastic summary thanks mate. Everything in PoE seemed so obtuse, even as someone who's casually played until the end of the campaign before. You breaking it down like this helped a whole heck of a lot.
So pumped for this vid Rax! I know what I'm doing but can totally understand newer players wanting to get into the game being totally lost. I only was able to get into it cause I followed a hand holding written guide (Enki's Arc witch, sadly retired now) to teach me the basics. Something like this is another level!
I’m so happy you made this video (though I wish I had this a year ago, lol).. you’re very good at explaining things to new players, and I appreciate the patience this takes. Thanks, Raxx!!
I'm on my like 3rd try to give PoE a chance over the last years. I always quit during the campaign and this time I made till act 6 so far. This video answered so many questions and made everything way less overwhelming. Thanky you.
I have been playing POE for quite some time. How I wish I had seen an explanation like this when I started! I have learned so much watching this & the Beauty of this explanation is that I can pull it up anytime I need it! RAX thanks so much for the time & simplifying the game! It would take me weeks to do the Storyline and when I got to maps, whatever fell I tried doing, not even doing all that well. WELL DONE!
I started playing POE last league, followed a build guide but barely made it to the maps. This league I started with exactly this build, got up to lvl50 but then got stuck and haven't played the game for two weeks. Now I've opened POE again, managed to get to Act 6 with no problems and I am confident that I make it well into the maps this time, thanks to you.
Yet another banger by Raxx' the G. I've watched your 3 vids on PoE, and after more than 6 years of not being capable of going through, and with the help of some friend, this video was really awesome. Got my character started and ready to start maps with around 50%, far from perfect but I learned a ton, especially on crafting. Keep up the amazing work, take care
Good stuff. Thanks for the help. I've realised there's a lot that's taken for granted with PoE information. Your guides and the likes found on Maxroll is invaluable, its step by step and addresses the nuances of the system. I'm about 30 hours into this league and it's my first character to reach the end game. Before that I spent about a 100 hours between 3 characters but found myself overwhelmed by part 2 act 7-9.
As i am a complete beginner, i followed your guide step by step and i search all npcs in the game many times and i didn't find that gem Frost Nova Of Frost Bolts, and i spent another 2 days until i fugured out alone from other you tube videos... all other things in the clip are perfectly explained, thank you
Thanks Rax. I've tried to play this game on my own, which was a great experience, but this guide really helped out on my 2nd rodeo. This is by far the best POE video I've ever watched for a beginner. I wish I could like and subscribe again.
At one time, in some other league, I reached maps with a random divine orb that dropped just before the epilogue. I knew what I had, I knew I could just jump start the endgame easily but crafting, market, building and everything in between just didn't made sense. I dropped PoE because of it. Thanks to you, now I understand what to do to actually get into endgame and what it means to "progress", I don't feel overwhelmed now. Thanks for taking the time to open the gates for those who couldn't make it before!
I've been trying my hand at PoE. Never thought this day would come, but since I watched your Beginner's Guide, I felt that maybe I could at least try it and see if I liked it. With a new league starting, I felt it was the right time. I went to Maxroll, followed the guide even though I wasn't so sure about all the stuff in it, played a few hours. Then you released the video about the build, and I had a very slow day at work, so I did all the digging I could on it and all the things I had doubts about while I couldn't play. I immediately felt so much more prepared than when I started two days before. I’m sure this is just a drop in the ocean that is PoE. I was following the PoB, and then you made this new video. I'm already so impressed that you seem to make content with perfect fucking timing. It's amazing. I even bought a few tabs and cosmetics. I've been having a blast, and now I'm going to enjoy watching your video. Anyway, thank you as always, Rax! I will follow you, my brother, my captain, my king of the ARPG's
honestly my friend, just thank you I've watched both your videos for beginners on PoE and you explained the difficulties using first principles approach that if a person played any ARPG can understand the concepts I'm trying Fubgun's LS build and I've been having a blast! Can't wait for further content on the different past mechanics, some other things like the cards, so on and so forth. If you make a video explaining it, I'll watch it. Anyway, appreciate it man, keep it you and I'll catch you live on Twitch!
