I think so, I tried claw barrage and I didn't do so well with it. At least against small dinos claw barrage doesn't do its job. It might look appealing, but I think you should stick to the regular claws if you want the best build for survival in general.
I found that even though claw barrage does like 2 -3 times as much damage at full count, it doesn't do as much bleed. I tried using claw barrage and regular claw and that sorta worked i guess. I just chose to stick with claw attack and dual slash as they do decent damage as well as a lot of bleed. Bleed plays an important role in hunting for Australovenator as it is very little and it does little damage.
One more thing, stay away from Tenos and Alios, as they will kill you easily. A Tenos wide radius of punishing attacks and it having around the same same speed as you is dangerous for an Austra. Alios are dangerous because they are faster, stronger, and they have a turn radius that matches an Austras.
