During paizocon they mentioned that barbarian and sorcerer were not in pkayer core 1 specifically because both have a dragon related subclass and they needed the extra time to really redesign the dragons and how those classes would interact with those new dragons

1:57 I know I'm behind, and I've already said it elsewhere, but I'm pretty sure the OGL is still fine(for now). Nothing happened with it, people just aren't comfortable with using it now after Hasbro/WotC TRIED to blow it up last year, nor should they be! I just wish more people would turn away from them for what they did, and actually pay attention to some of the other stuff they did while trying to apologize for tryig to get away with stealing other peoples' hard work instead of taking their massive amounts of money and making their own awesome content. I miss the old days of D&D when the settings and books actually had effort put into them!

Hard agree, there! I also feel terrible for the people who’ve been playing this game for many decades and finally got their dream job at WotC and the disillusionment that they must feel…sucks for everyone.

Mind movie is an awesome way to describe how to look at the game either from a player or DM vantage. That is totally how I see things.

My personal opinion it's more in the range of a 2.15 to 2.25 update.

On the Death and Dying stuff, I don't agree that simply reducing the Dying value is anywhere near the same. Nor is adding your Wounded value when Dying increases "complex". What I liked about the clarification, and I still feel it was a mixture of office politics and reacting to reddit having a meltdown that got it changed, is it discouraged yo-yo healing which is something many D&D 5e players rely on. Why bother being tactical, trying to keep your Wounded allies back from the frontline until fully healed etc when you can just let them drop again and again?
@goblinsalvagerites
@goblinsalvagerites 7 месяцев назад
It really depends on the kind of experience you're trying to have, the yoying you described can play into some pretty cool heroic moments. On the other hand, if You're trying to build a more deadly careful experience, then you do want to create a system that encourages players to never hit zero HP. What kind of death and dying system do you use at your table?

@@goblinsalvagerites Note the day 1 errata on Death , dying & wounds is a change for player core 1 is not how mark seifter ( the guy that designed pf 2e ) intended it. He actually intended the more deadly version. He now works for Roll for Combat.

I'm still not happy with the removal of alignment, at least in the narrative/fiction. The removal of the impact in terms of mechanics I think is fine, mostly. But Edicts/Anathema is clumsy, and will be used as little as the Ideals/Bonds/Flaws from D&D 5e. I've my doubts on if they'll write out Edicts/Anathema for every single monster in Monster Core 1 and for all monsters/npcs in APs going forward too. If they do, good. It'll mean motivations aren't buried within rambling paragraphs. Though I just look at all the product they've released already, and find myself annoyed as a digital player since now all the alignments are removed and there's nothing to replace them with. As a GM alignment gives you a quick reference on how a monster or npc should be played. Lawful Evil, but a fey? Organized, keeps its word, but likely cruel. As a Player, alignment was there to describe your CURRENT self and it was something that would be shifted by the GM as a game progressed. Too many people didn't understand that, I think. What am I as the GM to do if the player doesn't even follow their own Edicts/Anathema? On the more mechanical side of things. What they did with Wizard schools was a mistake. Surely it should have only been to distance themselves from the OGL... even if I think that too is overblown. Then why did they not simply change the names? Change the -traits-? This wouldn't work with all the names they currently chose, but it is the way they should have gone. Instead we have something more restrictive, and Wizard did not need to be humbled by any kind of nerfs. This leads into the cantrip change, and how with the errata they also changed everything not reprinted. I do not like it, my players did not like it. Going from a guaranteed amount of damage (due to adding your modifier) to relying entirely on RNG is not good when spellcasters in general didn't need nerfs.

I have to agree there. As a gm you could find out so much about a creature on the spot by just looking at alignment and traits. I cant read all the lore on every monster i throw at my players.
@Akeche
@Akeche 8 месяцев назад
@@klauskeller6380 Yeah like if they're going to have the Edicts and Anathema as part of the statblock, that is awesome. But maybe they should have recommended not removing alignment until they actually released the product with that information. Instead we now have a big 8-month gap where a Useful Thing is now gone and we don't even know if it'll be replaced. Hearing him say that he just didn't write down his alignment gave me all the info I needed anyway. As the GM, I require players to choose both an alignment and a deity. He even outright says that Edicts/Anathema is something he might not bother with. To me that comes off as the player who really wants to just be "Chaotic Neutral" and do whatever they want, which is in fact the worst kind of player for a GM who doesn't realize they get to change the PCs alignment.

8:22 There is LITERALLY ZERO narrative difference between alignments and Edicts & Anathemas! I think people are going to like E&As less because there is little room for wiggle, one slight misstep and BOOM! Cleric loses their shit, can't do anything but be a BAD fighter! Good job whiners and complainers that could have just learned how to use alignments properly!!!
@goblinsalvagerites
@goblinsalvagerites 4 месяца назад
Thanks for bringing it in hot…with timestamps, even! I’ve been hearing this for 30+ years…and that itself is kinda my argument for ushering in the E&As because specific always trumps general. Mr. Myagi taught us that there are no bad students, only bad teachers. So why are alignments still an issue 5 decades later? Maybe the alignment system isn’t as discretely useful as many seem to presume it is? “If you’d just learn to do it right” doesn’t get great results with…well anyone…especially when their primary concerns aren’t addressed.

OK, I heard the thing that always makes me sigh..."The game assumes You're at full health... etc...", The game allows for it. This idea that if you don't have a focus point healer "you're doing it wrong" is false. That's video game mentality. This mindset tells especially new players that there are only so many viable character options. I tell new players/ groups that certain things will make the game easier, but none of them are required.
@erikellis4766
@erikellis4766 7 месяцев назад
I agree with you, for the most part.. Thankfully “you’re doing it wrong” is not a thing with GSR. The mechanisms for any given ttrpg system come with certain presuppositions. In PF2, one of those seems to be that that players heal up between encounters until they run out of resources at which point they get somewhere safe for a full nights sleep. I personally don’t run my sessions this way because I like the feast-or-famine feel to adventuring days because it keeps folks from taking things from granted which inevitably results in lazy RP and in-character strategizing. Here’s hoping I read you right on this.
@charleswatson2605
@charleswatson2605 7 месяцев назад
@erikellis4766 you did. When I run the players make those decisions and live by them. If the healer wants to be stingy them they may have a character die. I think designed encointes in AP do assume that the players will choose to heal up, but nowhere does it say if they don't then weaken the encounter.
@erikellis4766
@erikellis4766 7 месяцев назад
See, I like your approach because it makes an adventuring day feel like it has a pulse and pulses get thready sometimes and that creates moments of concern/excitement.

Oh it's just a 2.1 update... It just got rid of Alignment, got rid of Ability Scores, had totally reworked Classes, some Ancestries edited and others removed and new ones added, reworked spells, new book organization, Reworked Feats, ... Yeah, it's totally compatible with 2.0. Not. This is a totally new edition. But in order for you guys to grasp this go back in time to when RPGs started and look at the history of how RPGs got new editions and not just how WotC did editions, which is how you and The Rules Lawyer look at it. He doesn't know anything.

Butterfly effects on rules-heavy rulesets take time to be seen. Here’s hoping you’re right but the proof will be at the end of the fourth release in Summer ‘24. As for Ronald not knowing anything…he’s a pretty well informed guy who has made a good faith effort to speak as well as his _extensive_ knowledge and experience allows and his opinions are credible in these parts❤

Idk, I can still use my pre-remaster bestiary just fine with the remaster rules. Same with most of the books they've released so far tbh, seems pretty dang compatible. I think calling it 2.1 is kind of semantics, I prefer to call it 2.5 as it's still mostly the same but at the same time carries some pretty fundamental changes. 2.1 would make sense if we expected a 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, etc but we don't expect that. This is the only version we're getting before 3, so 2.5 marks that halfway point for me better than 2.1 does.
