Glad y'all are covering more PF2e stuff! I know a little bit about it but going over a monster stat block like this really helps me put a lot of the pieces together I think. I tried to look it up, and it does look like "grab someone and just drag them away" is very complicated in PF2e... I found a 4 year old reddit thread talking about needing 2 hands to take the grappled/grabbed creature and take the Drag action which lets you go about 5 feet a turn... So that may be a big part of why the drag option is there (in addition to what Ellie said about Op Attacks and making the players Stride) If you wanna get serious about 5e conversions, I would pay close attention to the Proficiency Bonus. We don't need to say this has +5 Athletics, because it has +5 Strength. Similarly, with +3 Charisma, it's Deception should either be +3, or +6 if it's Proficient. Etc Etc

Awesome video! I gave up D&D for Pathfinder a while ago, and I'm constantly looking for great new voices in the community, and I really like you all's vibe. So needless to say, more Pathfinder 2e content please! I think you all have the right idea: this is an aquatic monster, and will thrive in an environment where it can leverage that. The sidebar on the Archives of Nethys page even mentions it working alongside Will-o-wisps in a kind of weird symbiotic relationship. I can see the scene now: the party is being rowed out into the deep swamp by their guide, looking for signs of suspected cult activity due to the mutilated bodies that have been turning up. They hear a cry for help, and when the guide rows the boat over to investigate, he's yanked off and into the water! Now with no one driving the boat and deep swamp muck on all sides, the party needs to survive this creature trying to pull them in as well, capsizing their boat, and overall just being a menace. That's really what I love about Pathfinder creatures. Lots of them inspire encounter concepts all on their own!

This once certainly did so for me. It was the first one I saw when making a homebrew oneshot and I was immediately making an encounter. Glad you enjoyed! We REALLY enjoyed making this and definitely have more in store

Is pathfinder that much better?

@@DanielJones-w7s For me personally and the group I run games for, it’s been basically a strict upgrade from 5th edition D&D. We see no reason to ever go back to it now that we have Pathfinder 2e. If you’d like more information about the system (i.e. things I specifically like about it, how to get into it, etc.) I’d be happy to explain more.

It certainly feels like more care is put into the rules. And there's a lot more creativity as well. We had a video talking about the differences between systems. Pros and cons

Tail drag is useful. If you grapple s creature 10 ft away, you cannot attack it again with the tail and your other attacks cannot reach it. If you move during a grapple, you drop the grapple. So, the tail drag ability allows you to grab, then drag the creature to you, and attack with another attack while maintaining grapple. Grapple action: Critical Success Your target is restrained until the end of your next turn unless you move or your target Escapes. Success Your target is grabbed until the end of your next turn unless you move or your target Escapes.
