Can I point out that my experience was nothing to do with alcohol. I was admitted with pneumonia and placed in an induced coma. The experiences I describe in this video were purely caused by the medication used to sedate me.

Hi Brian, thanks for sharing your story of delirium. I ended up going through it after a sudden cardiac arrest last year, also not due to alcohol, but experienced many of the same dreams and frightening thoughts. Glad to hear you’re on the mend.

I’m a 27 year old man and a week after my birthday in October I started experiencing DTs. My hallucinations were so real and ended up having a grand mal seizure which lasted over 30 minutes. I bit my tongue and collapsed, I woke up in ICU a week later and was so confused, being fed through your nose and having a tube being pulled from your throat is terrifying. I honestly wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy it still makes me tear up to this day thinking what my mum had to witness. To everyone who is staying sober I am happy, not for me but for you. If it wasn’t for my mum I would have died on my kitchen floor, alcohol isn’t a joke at all it frightens the life out of me, I hope people in schools and universities can get more educated on alcohol. Thank you for sharing your story I wish you all the best. Ciaran

All the best. Same thing. I almost diet at an ICU from alcohol withdrawal cause my heart collapsed due to arrhytmia.. my heart got 300 speed and stopped providing oxygen to my body -I would die if I was at home.

thankyou for this! ive just got over delerium tremens and it was honestly the scariest thing ive ever been through, i had the same spiders and rats everywhere for about 4 days, also seeing people who wanted to kill me in horrible ways, its quite hard to understand unless youve been through it, these people in your imagination are actually stood there infront of you saying things. trying to stab me and the knife would feel like it punctured me but as soon as i touch where the wound was it was gone. its put me off drinking forever i thought id been through the worst detox's etc, but that was nearly the end of me and im so glad to come out the other side, glad to see youre doing well! take care

Can completely relate to this! Was in ITU with respiratory failure for a month in Dec 2019 and I had the most horrific dreams and hallucinations. I woke up talking rubbish and thinking all the staff were the enemy! I was constantly trying to fight the tubes as well. I struggled for a long time after with PTSD and eventually had therapy to help me get over what happened to me.

I have only just found the courage to look this up. I've recently come out of a q5 day coma. A month in ICU. I also saw a prison cell and believed I was on death row. I was so weak. Infection. Ludwigs Angina. It was terrifying. I still feel like I'm there. I was in for murdering 4 people. I couldn't speak as I had breathing tubes in. I believed they were taking me off the ward into their homes and allowing men to touch me but I couldn't move at all. Atrophy. Those men were male nurses washing me, changing my diaper. I couldn't write. It was real. I believed I murdered a young boy and was so upset with myself and did not want them to take any care of me as I did not deserve care if I hurt a child. His blue hand coming out of the sink. I get awful flashbacks. It has been 3 months now but I'm still very very shaken. Thank you for sharing. Im so sorry you experienced this too. I'm grateful it is "common". I was afraid I'd lost my mind.

I'm fascinated by people's first-hand accounts of their experiences of ventilator-induced delirium like you have so vividly described in this video. And considering the scale of the impact COVID 19 had globally (7th worst epidemic if Wikipedia is correct) it's baffling that the web isn't teaming with videos like this one of other people telling their first-person perspectives. I'll admit I feel very guilty declaring such a fascination; It's evident you have gone through what sounds like the most terrifying ordeal.

I'm going to respond unassuming you are or aren't doing anything and just tell you my own experience. Some people do have a deliverance and that magical feeling hits them without seeking it out and working on it daily but for most people it's the latter. I would recommend getting a KJV Bible and an ESV study Bible and reading at least a small amount daily. Pray often throughout the day and give thanks and praise daily for all of the little blessings. Make prayer requests and see them fulfilled. Don't ever say something is a coincidence, it is always God working things out. Some people can read the Bible in sequence and do well with it. For me I use the vocabulary words at the back of the study Bible to read on something on my heart or I ask holy spirit to be with me and lead me to where I need to read and that has always brought good fruit to my life. I do a verse a day with my kids and when I don't have the discipline to open my Bible for myself I always will for them. Some of my favorite books are Psalms, Ephesians, John, and Romans. God loves us Jesus loves us, but they ask, Luke 9: 23-24 " And he said to all, " If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God." They ask us to put ourselves aside to pursue them and take up our own cross, through managing our sin and prioritizing these things above anything of this world. The salvation prayer and accepting Jesus as your savior is a great start but from there it really becomes what you make it and what you put the work in to develop, just like any earthy relationship, except it's much more rewarding. We all fail, and we all slip up, and we all sin, be eager to repent daily and never let guilt overcome you. Please let me know if you have any questions!!

Funny thing is that I'm not afraid of death now. I know what I experienced was purely down to the sedation that kept me in a coma. It wasn't real. It was illusion. Death comes to us all and having been close to it I no longer fear it. Its all a game. Live long and prosper

Well done you, for agreeing to go public with your experiences Brian. I'm a Covid survivor and experienced delirium during my time in ICU, Fortunately for me, I'd describe most of what I saw as just weird, and can now understand that it was just the drugs I was given, but after 'overhearing' a comment he made, I was convinced (and probably still am) that one particular heavily tattoo'd male nurse would have been happier if I had not survived, so I was terrified every time he was left alone with me, particularly when he adjusted my oxygen supply.

They keep coming one after another. Worms and snakes coming out of their mouths. As soon as I opened my eyes they’d be gone. Eventually I just closed my eyes and watched them like a movie. So glad i found these videos thought it was just me.... Last year i suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, no warning... Was due to an unknown heart syndrome from birth, no warnings no symptoms nothing...... Luckily my family found me instantly and received 17mins cpr from my son then syraight into an induced coma for 5-7 days, had a terrible old english horror style nightmare in an old english village, would make a cracking short film, not sure if it was while i was in the coma or the 1-2 days being brought out, also a feeling of being trapped in a metaverse type battle game with more and more people turning up as they were also being trapped (seem to remember the gateway into it (the trap) was through a dodgy RU-vid video, yes really 😣..... But i just kept failing to find a way to escape, again dont know wether this was during the coma or the period of coming out. Then i remember becoming more aware of my surroundings BUT to me the imaculate icu suite looked derelict, mould all over the ceiling, rust running down from pipes and fittings and ivy in the corners, and at when i think it was evening these golden mechanical spiders would come from a vent high up on the wall and hundreds of them would crawl up the wall and across the ceiling, i remember thinking i hope they dont come over here, but was helpless as couldn't really move..... As i come around i remember hearing a nurse tell me what had happened and where i was, which always being a very strong relatively fit 50 year old non smoker and very light drinker l flatly refused to accept it to me the trees outside through the large windows seemed to be moving the same all the time and i then thought they're playing on a loop and they're not windows, they're screens playing an film. I remember thinking the same thing when my wife and son turned up to visit, i could see them waving through the window, but it seemed the same 30 sec loop and looked fake as if on screens to try n keep me subdued,. i started to think id been abducted but couldn't work out if i was on a spaceship or in some secret facility (yep 100% seriously) the nurses wore blue overalls with face masks with leds in them and in the weird light in icu made there eyes large and blue with silvery blue skin, they were all young and very pretty.... I thpught id been abducted by the paladians for experiments ffs 😣😣😣, then as i came out a bit more started to think that my wife and son weren't actually a film loop taken from social media 🙄, but they had also been abducted and were smiling and waving under duress, and i remember breking down upon hearing my eldest son was due to arrive shortly and i thought hed be trapped there as well as id thought by this point it was organ harvesting operation, made perfect sense due to the derelict state of the room 🤣....... I remember trying to escape twice when i started to feel my meds ware off and was twice able to swing my legs out and stand up, but soon realised l couldn't move my feet and was too hooked up with tubes n wires anyway, then came the alarms and panic (from them) that i was no longer in bed, confirmation to me that i had indeed been abducted lol🙄🙄 to my eternal shame i remember being abusive to the lovely nurses saying to them to "just let me go home".. "theres nothing wrong with me ffs" lol, and regularly giving them the finger and telling them to F/o when they seemed to be staring at me through the window (observation 🙄🙄)..... As i said thats my eternal shame which i have to carry and still feel guilt when i think of it. After i became even more aware i remember being offered a cup of tea by a nurse, this was quite an upgrade from the water i had been forced to suck off of a tiny piece of sponge, think it was a pivitol moment in me realising my situation and accepting i was indeed in safe hands in an icu,...... And found myself apologising to everyone involved, luckily i made a full recovery, no damage and was back at work (manual) within 3 months, not bad for 17 mins cpr and a week in a coma , i owe a great debt to my youngest son who never gave up, ive left out many details but thats my story........ It was a humbling experience,..... but also horendus and i wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, the NHS Docs and nurses were incredible and couldn't do enough for me ❤️❤️❤️❤️NHS.

moggles3211 I was in the ICU for 10 days in August of 2018 as well. When I came out of my coma I experienced horrible delirium. I thought the nurses were trying to kill me so I fought them every time they came into my room. I also thought there were three men in my window who were trying to kill me. Until my family came to see me I suffered severe hallucinations. To this day I still have nightmares and suffer PTSD from being in the ICU. I thought I was the only one who went through something like that so it’s comforting to know others have been through it as well.

Yep, I remember experiencing the DT's numerous times, too many times to count really. Those and seizures, real tonic/clonic seizures. Life or death stuff really. I don't know how my wee body went through it all but it did. Odd thing about my hallucinations was they were pretty funny! I have no idea why they were but they were never scary. Still, I wouldn't want to go through it again. I had a rather messy divorce from my marriage to the booze the last time and we haven't even seen each other since. It wasn't really a good relationship anyway and I'm happier without it. 13 years now and counting..!

Great video. I hope more alcoholics run across it whether they've had DTs before or not. When I had my first few DTs I had no clue what they were called or much about them. I had one where I thought I was seeing a kitten at ground level just below my side of the bed. I had no idea why it scared me so much whether it was real or not. I had another where there was a ghost shaped like a warlock/witch. I stood up fast out of bed and smashed the corner of my head into the corner of a 6ft tall dresser. Another where the digital clock on the small dresser next to the bed appeared to be connected to a bomb and I thought it was going to set off. Then I learned about DTs on an 18 day stay in the hospital where they put me in an induced coma for 5 days. I had one more a few years after that (obviously all of these prior experiences hadn't stopped me from drinking). That was a long one where I thought I was seeing a 4-6yr old child by the side of the bed. I asked him if he knew where his parents were and he didn't respond. I got up, led him to the front door in an effort to help him find his parents. I actually opened the front door and as we stepped outside he disappeared and then I realized I was having DTs again. I've finally stopped drinking and am in a daily attempt to remain truly sober and in recovery. I don't know that there is such a thing as full recovery from alcoholism. I do know that the support I receive, the honest and earnest daily attempts I make, and self-awareness I strive for really help. And even my worst days in sobriety are better than my best days of drinking. I wish the best for all, whether alcoholic or not; and in feeling that way naturally now makes me think that I am a much better person than I was when I was drinking.

My experience was not caused by DT but by the sedation given to keep me in an induced coma in ICU

I've seen a couple of vids on DT and it is absolutely shocking. It is like a living hell for people that experience it. It is so scary. I had no idea that alcohol is so dangerous. Alcohol use is glamorized all around the world, in movies etc. yet it causes so much devastation. DT is just one withdrawal symptom of alcohol let alone all the crime, murders, deaths, suicides, drunk driving, unwanted pregnancies, rape etc that goes with alcohol and when people are under the influence. All it takes is on wrong split second decision to change the course of your life or other peoples lives and on alcohol it is so easy to make all the wrong decisions.

A truly terrifying experience he calls it I call it a truly amazing experience to see how fast your brain works it only lasts 3 days not 4 if you feel dts coming on go to bed bottle of water beside the bed dark room close your eyes and enjoy

Hi Audrey. Nope, it's not a past life regression. I believe I was still aware of things happening around me at some level even though I was comatose and my brain interpreted things as best it could given the circumstances.

Why did you let him go through this? Why wasn't he sedated enough? You've caused a lot of psychological damage to this man unnecessarily! Benzos would have saved this man this nightmare

I have to say, I see this as a complete battle between Satan and God for these peoples souls. Satan is tormenting you through this delirium. This is why this cannot be clinically resolved or studied. This is a spiritual battle.
@brianpengelly4653

No, it's not a spiritual battle. It's delirium caused by the sedatives used to keep you in a coma

I have someone close to me who is going through this, and the experiences he shared in the beginning of it lead me to these conclusions. Now he's still not fully restored cognitively and I'm just not sure if he is still in the delirium or if he is just going to be different from his experiences or what, and no clinically there is no protocol in the US. We told doctors and nothing was done to assess or treat.
