Patio heaters seem to go bad every year or two and I've bought five or six of them over the years. I finally figured out how to fix them but it's not safe for you to do. This video just explains what I did not what you should do. With these cold SW Florida nights getting down in the 60's or lower 70's and only hitting daytime highs of 80's we really need a patio heater. It's a week before Christmas but luckily this cold weather usually only stays around a month or two.

*Very easy to set up and use, attractive but be sure you understand the height it's not tall. The heat is not overwhelming, but steady and pleasant **fireplace.homes** It's quiet, too. I like the possibility of easily moving it from room to room in the event we want supplemental heat elsewhere. Definitely a good buy.*

Thanks buddy very helpful. Instead of cutting wires I just joined both wires with plugs and taped it. Working fine so far !!!

It worked! Thank you. Mine hasn’t worked for 3 out of the 4 years I had it, and I just put it off until now. It was literally a 10 minute fix, and now I feel like a moron for not doing it sooner.

I just bought the table top patio heater second hand. The dome top had some dings in it because it fell over with them. So I started taking it apart. I got dome top reshaped, did some cleaning. When back together, the starter worked and it started on the first push of the red button. LOL that pilot light needs a good 2 minutes before it’s ready to go. Was surprised at how much heat they give out. And stay lit on a breezy day. Loved your video. Subscribed and liked the video. I’m in Michigan, we have a cold Spring, and cold fall. And I bought mine for $5.00. At a Garage Sale.

I just thought is was humorous.been having problems with mine but only need it to keep our exotic birds warm. And yes I’m a native Floridian. 54 years Good video though !! Thanks for the help

Well, that is one way, but its not safe if you have dogs, kids, guests around. A new Tilt Switch on Amazon is $8, and the thermocouple kit with switch is $10 - $13. Best to disconnect and replace. If you choose to replace it, be aware of: 1. Is the original thermocouple threaded or not? Does it screw into a nut at the top near the burner? If yes, get one that is threaded (see it visually on Amazon photos). 2. Check length of the cord going from thermocouple sitting on top of heater to bottom where it connects to the tilt switch. It should be long enough for your floor or table top heater. Measure old one and match to new one. 3. Before removing the wires from tilt switch, mark wire ends and sockets with matching colors. Red for one, White for the other, etc. Mark it on TOP of wire end so you also know which end is up. Take photos before disassembly. I restored my stainless table top heater completely. I brushed it out with a wire wheel on Dremel, and also an angle grinder with a wire cup brush. All minor rust removed, sprayed with Loctite Rust Neutralizer, and good as now. All brass bits were polished too with Dremel. Blow out all gas conduits for soot and ash removal. Wire wheels polish metal nicely. I sprayed black paint on some parts too, so they look new and cuff marks gone.

You're a genius! After almost giving up hope/ considering ordering a thermocoupler I tried this and in 20 minutes good as new (except for the cut off switch)mine would light with the pilot but not fully turn on, I just connected the two plugs as Kirponds below did, thanks again

Saves a lot of money. I had to buy new ones every year or two. One time I was able to get a new thermocouple for the one I had online but really had to jump through hoops to find it. I installed the new one which only worked for about a week before I had to throw the heater out.

No problem, hope it works for you. Most of the time it's that switch but if it don't light after doing this it will probably be the thermocouple. It can be bypassed too. I went through 3 or 4 patio heaters before I found this stuff out. Took all the trouble one time to figure out where to buy a new thermocouple and finally got it in the mail. Didn't help at all so threw the whole thing away.

Jayzus people. As the man said DONT DO THIS, if it tips over, it will burn you down. Don’t go to all the hassle of cutting, clipping, reattaching wires. Simply use a bit of wire with clips to bridge the two terminal of the dump switch. If your Hester works, the dump switch is bad. Buy a new one & replace it, they’re $18.

This is not very safe. You could use a better system to connect those wires togheter.
@cv4wheeler
@cv4wheeler 3 года назад
This is fine for diagnostic purposes, but as a permanent bypass, dangerous unless you screw the unit down. All you have to do to test if this is the problem is to remove the two leads to the tilt switch, push back the plastic covers on the connectors on the wires and short them together, just on their own or with a piece of wire. No need to strip and twist them for diagnosis only. If it lights and stays lit, then the tilt switch is the problem. I just got one of these, and the tilt switch is defective, so it will have to go back. At least I know what the problem is. In a civilized world, they would send me a new tilt switch and $25, but we don't live in that world anymore, so somehow it will have to go back.
