That single sided support is a hot idea. I’ve never seen any like this.

This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ru-vid.comUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

Awesome pergola I built many of pergolas but never two-post you did a great job

WOW! That looks fantastic. Love the lighters cross members as a top layer. It adds a feeling of strength and completeness without feeling heavy. The stacked effect helps balance the open roof with the mass of the supports., and the stain gives it the feel of a strong but gentile gentile giant welcoming you to relax. Your construction was impeccable as always. Two suggestions for the long holes you were drilling. First try using auger style bits. The screw point on the front helps to draw them through so you use less effort push the drill, allowing you to focus on control. Second, drill the holes in the braces first. Then using those holes as guides, drill the holes on the uprights. this way you are drilling through less material in each case and working with simpler pieces, have more control and less effort. Using a piece of scrap as a backing will eliminate blowout on the uprights.

Cool project. I’ve never seen concrete poured dry and then water added to the hole. Was there a wet pour done first so the aggregate mixed with the concrete? Did you fill the bottom of the hole with crushed rock?
@StoneandSonsWorkshop
@StoneandSonsWorkshop 5 лет назад
The bottom is compacted clay and yes, water was added to the bottom as well. The pergola is also attached to the fence. I'll add these points to the website article. Thanks for the questions.

Beautiful! i've always heard that you can't stain pressure treated lumber, or at least, not for a year or so of drying. Is that wrong or did you use a special type of stain? Anyway, looks great!

Looks great. I have 2 quick questions. How deep are the notches on the 2x6 boards. Also did you, and if so, what type of nails did you use to secure the 2x6 boards.

These are good questions but he ain't answering lol. I would add how far back were the 4 cross members? Was wondering the distance for the back support post.

I like the look and design but you have everything sitting on the bolts. Should have notched the wood to take stress off the bolts.

Just to let you know you don't have to wet the dry concrete mix, it will get wet from the ground..look's good.

Great video!!! I have been searching for informative videos on how to build the cantilever pergola and you have answered most of my questions! The one question that I have been trying to find is is there a specific angle or length for the rear counter weight support beam? is there a certain formula to figure it out or just a guess? Thanks and again great video!

Craftsman separated from Sears about 2 years before Sears closed. It is now carried by Lowes here in Canada. There are also online dealers in Canada. For details, go to Craftsman.com.

Nice results, but don’t forget to always use fasteners which are compatible with pressure treated lumber. The chemicals in p.t. lumber will eat the metal faster than you might think. Especially with a large cantilever like that, which has the potential of falling if those bolts fail. ✌🏼

Thanks David! I like them and would recommend them. I've been using them for a few months now and haven't had any issues. Having a cordless sander and jigsaw alone has changed the way I work.

I need a 2 beam pergola. In law doesn’t want me to connect to wall. What’s the maximum length from beam out can I go with a 2 beam before It becomes unsafe.

if you notched out the posts you probably wouldn't need the overkill sized braces
