Patlo Ya Sengwaketse | Tebogo & Omphemetse's Traditional Wedding | Lobola
The Bangwaketse tribe history can be be traced to Ngwaketse, a younger brother to Kwena and Ngwato. Weddings form an important part of this tribes culture. According to the Bangwaketse culture the men lead the patlo ceremony followed later on the day by the women.The grooms family members(men) meets with the elders(man) from the brides family at the family Kgotla to begin the lobola negotiations. In most cases this group of elders from the grooms family is lead by a man who will dramatise some movements and shout "Mma Mpitse Fao Sa Mpitse Ke Bowa Ka Tsone" referring to the cows that are to be given as the bride price. The grooms family will do this until they are welcomed by the brides family. Once they are welcomed the proceedings begin and during this negotiations the brides family members would be seated on wooden/traditional chairs or in modern chairs whereas the grooms family members who are leading the negotiations would be on their knees or seated, once the bride price has been paid, the women then enter the yard to ask for the bride. According to the tribe traditions the women from the gross family will not be allowed to ask for the bride until the negotiations are done and lobola is paid
