Tarikh is a daily program in which we present you with incidents and stories of noteworthy persons of Indian History in Hindi. In this edition of Tarikh, Nikhil talks about Patna Plane Crash. Alliance Air Flight 7412 was a domestic flight from Kolkata to Delhi with a stopover in Patna. On July 17, 2000, while approaching Patna, the Boeing 737-2A8 nosedived and crashed into a residential area. The crash resulted in the tragic loss of 60 lives, including 49 passengers, 6 crew members, and 5 people on the ground.

I was studying in a UKG class at that time. I remember I was going to school at that time and this crash happened 3 to 4 km away from my house and the airport is very near my house. I still remember this accident. And a few years later, there was another plane crash, it was a training plane which crashed on the railway line at the time of landing.

Correction: Manjit Singh Sohanpal was the Captain ( and not First Officer) and Arvind Bagga was a co-pilot (FO).

I was 3 years old but somehow I still have some faded memory of that horrific accident. My family and I used to live 3 km from the crash site. I was playing in my verandah when I saw the plane tilt suddenly and dive. When it crashed it sounded like a bomb exploded and the aftershock was like minor earthquake.

The inspector was a senior retired IPS officer. He was my grandfather. And Mrs. Pallavi was my mother. And, 17th July was my birthday. In the year 2000 I was 8 years old and my Mom was around 31 years old. This incident is 24 years old. I am 32 now.

Nice try honestly, but one major factor was that the pilots had changed their seats and this was a significant contributing factor to the crash as both pilots were unfamiliar and unqualified to fly from where they were both sitting in.

प्लेन जहाँ गिरी थी वहाँ पर रोड बिलकुल चौडी थी लगभग 40 फीट जो 80 फीट की मेन रोड जुडी़ थी और वहाँ से ऐयरपोर्ट की दूरी मात्र दो किलोमीटर। न थी तो केवल आग बुझाने के सटीक इंतजाम ऐयरपोर्ट से आये हूये गाड़ियों में किसी की हालत दूरूस्त नहीं थी। लोगों की भीड़ भी बाद में बढी। ये सभी बातें मेरे सामने घटी थी।

i have seen this incidence...i was staying in Anishabad, Shivpuri and went out to purchase milk at Gardanibag circle.... It was one of the worst experience of my life... local people were helping a lot... to control the fire... and save the life of others'. Complete failure of govt machinery. there was no water in fire fighter and the worst on arrival they realize.... May departed sole rest in peace.

Sounds very sad. However, thank God for those who escaped the accident. God' grace was with them. Quite helpful video... Great work in attempting to explain in simple terms. Keep improving! It also reminds us of how much of lack of understanding we had in helping disaster response work properly. Education does help people understand to co-operate in these instances instead of blocking the pathways.
