So who is going to tell him that BTOB and Shinee's lives are even better? I would love to see more BTOB and Shinee reactions. They are really talented and hard working. I really love watching people discovering older groups and realizing how huge their talent is. Also, Shinee is huge. I wouldn't think about views too much. Older groups have older fans who can't sit and stream all day...they have jobs. But their albums still sell like crazy and you will see them everywhere on tv.
I don't really care about views overall typically, I just found it interesting. I wonder how much that "streaming culture" really impacts total view counts. Even with my favorite group in LOONA I've probably only watched "Paint The Town" 10-15 times
@KpopPrince I'm not into streaming either especially since I like watching live performances more. But I really do think streaming has a big impact...but streaming isn't necessarily a bad thing! It's a way for fans to draw attention to a video. It's just different than what I am used to. Like you said, it's very interesting to see.
For me besides just not having time now that I'm older, I stopped focusing on it as much when I found out how little the artists actually get paid per youtube view even compared to other streaming services which are also way too low. I just buy an album and naturally stream when I'm chilling or driving now
BTOB and Shinee in one video? my day has been made Also this is just my opinion but I think the reason why older groups views aren't as high is because the majority of their fans are also older and don't have time to sit and stream music videos due to having other life commitments.
Senior groups have an older fan base who have other responsibilities so streaming is not a priority. SHINee for this comeback had their highest or at least one of their highest physical album sales, Don't Call Me got huge digital numbers which means it was supported outside the kpop fan base, won multiple music shows, their beyond live online concert had 130,000 viewers from 120 countries. Don't just judge the older groups on RU-vid views. This does even take into account how successful each member is individually.
with members who are so passionate about their music, performance and other things they put their mind into, it is within reason that taemin will take after the people who are always with him. though i don't discredit other groups, i have never seen a group where every member who can interchange their roles in the group as much as shinee. it says so much of their effort, teamwork and passion. also, they always perform like it was always their last so their performance is always something to brag about. as i do now.
All the vocalists in BTOB are just amazing. You got to know the two tenors already, Eunkwang and Changsub. Hyunsik and Sungjae (who are in military) are the barritones of the group but they both have super wide ranges, especially Hyunsik. The lung capacity of this man never cease to amaze me. All of their voices together create amazing depth in harmony, it's just pleasure to listen to them.
You can NEVER go wrong with SHINee. They are 5 vocals, 5 rappers, 5 dancers and 5 mega performers. They have been together for 13 years (debuted in 2008 when baby Taemin was just 14) and know each other inside and out. If you liked this, you should definitely also check out "Don't Call Me" from 2020 which is totally different from "Atlantis", and they also just recently dropped their Japanese mini-album with an MV for the title track "Superstar". You MUST check them out live. They are known best for their phenomenal live performers with killer live vocals and harmonies. In fact, they have the nickname of CDnees meaning their live vocals are often better or equal to their recorded vocals. SHINee's vocals are no joke. In fact they mentored EXO before their debut, as well as NCT. They set the standard for Kpop in terms of live performances and vocals. When SHINee first debuted in 2008, Taemin was considered the weakest vocal and was really just there as a main dancer. However, after working with Jonghyun, Taemin was able to debut as a soloist and became the amazing singer and performer that he is today.
You really need to get into Shinee more…nothing is more sad then seeing people who are newer to kpop…not checking out the 2nd gen until much much later. Get to know the legends…then dive into the newer groups so you can see how the sounds have evolved ❤️
SHINee actually started the trend of more realistic mvs, and casual stage outfits with View! Back then, stages are HEAVILY produced - custom suits, theatrics etc but this song popularized a new genre of kpop. Back then they were scrutinized for it but as you can see, View really stood the test of time. If you watch their live stages, you couldn’t tell they’re from 2015.
I think viewership definitely has died down over the years but their views still are an outlier among 2nd gen groups and that they all bring something to the table. Each member is able to stand on their own so much, (Minho is an actor, Taemin's solo work, Onew solo work and currently being in a musical, key's solo work and being very popular on variety shows) that when they come back together it's always amazing. Even though their viewership in numbers died down, Don't Call Me their most recent album before the Atlantis repackage was their best selling album of all time so they're still pushing strong!
jonghyuns solo work also being AMAZING his work is so unmatched. He was the first sm idol with a self written album and has written countless songs for shinee, view being one of them lol and also writing songs for taemin and exo !
Just found your channel because of SHINee!! I do hope you get into their music more, they're amazing. They just came back after 3 years and broke their own records after surviving all the hardships and more of a 13 year career and are still going strong because of their talent. They actually just released a new Japanese MV called Superstar a few days ago. And their Don't Call Me MV released in February of this year as well. Their live performances are top tier too! They may not have the popularity of the 3rd and 4th gen groups of today but they've got experience and a fanbase that loves them and continues to grow.
Shinee always does something out of the ordinary and GOOD EVENING is one of those that i love most, the concept was so cool but what i really loved about that comeback were the live stages and the performance!
The situation with SHINee really highlights a big point of contention with me in regards to streaming culture. I feel like it started as a way to give smaller groups a leg up but now it's expected that every single video will be streamed and I think it warps the perspective big time and in the end does more harm than good. A smaller group vs a more popular group now isn't just ten times as many people watching it, it's ten times as many people watching it and then streaming it 100 times each. Even when a smaller group has a big breakout song now like Pentagon had with Shine, A.C.E had with Undercover, Dreamcatcher had with Scream etc etc it is harder then ever for them to actually have any success with it on music shows. Even when fans of a big group don't like the most recent comeback they will stream it over a smaller group whose song they like more, because fandom has made "supporting your fave" into a militaristic duty. It's all for the sake of fan's egos, they don't even consider how it effects the actual artists. Now groups are disappointed and feel like failures when their MVs don't reach huge numbers even though the album sales might be double the group's previous album and people might be talking all over social media about how it's one of the best albums of the year. I don't judge people who want to stream to support their favourite groups, I understand the drive to give back to your favourite groups and to have a part in their success and helping them go on to achieve their dreams. I want the same for my faves too. I just feel like streaming has becoming way too much of an expectation, way too focused on, and that it has warped people's perspective on any given song/mv/album's success in a definitively harmful way and I think that hyperfixation on numbers is really the kind of thing that gives people the impression that kpop fans don't actually care about the music at all.

If you're so smitten with Eunkwang's vocals during Love Poem, I think it should only be proper to check the whole BTOB Blue. 6:38 is the youngest Yook Sungjae. The blondish hair in this video is Hyunsik. The first part of the vocal (6:24 - 6:31) (even with SJ on the screen) was Hyunsik, the second part (6:32 - 6:41) was Sungjae.
the awesome vocal u pointed out was Sungjae, he's the maknae and srguably the craziest of them all, he's super famous as an actor in korea and his nickname is Yook Jal To (yook sungjae is a handsome (jalsengin) freak/crazy (torai). He has said that his vocals are inferior compared to his hyungs but i love his voice the most, it has that deep side to it at times and sounds absolutely tragic on slower songs like ballads Hyunsik was the member who started the song and produces most of their songs, the btob4u song "Show ur Love" that these 4 members released was also written by him

SHINee is the group that got me into kpop back in 2011 and now I'm a moomoo but of course I still love them so much - you're in for a huge ride with their discography and I'm looking forward to you getting to know them. Also 20 Million views is amazing! Recently, Kpop has exploded in its streams with BTS Blackpink at the top among many others. But it kind of leads to disproportionate perception of what is popular and even getting to 5 million is honestly such a huge feat especially being a long term kpop fan. Another aspect is the growing use of ad-generated views (especially amongst rookies and newer groups) which while is amazing for marketing reasons but its leads to a distortion of popularity among different fandoms and unnecessary comparisons.
what is amazing about shinee is that though the views are not comparable to 3rd or 4th gen idols, their albums, merch and concert has always been supported by fans. i have never seen a "green colored" swiss knife be sold out, just because it is merch from shinee. also the hype they received from the industry for their dcm comeback says a lot of their relevance to kpop in general
Btob’s vocal line really hits the rooftop you need to hear them sing together it’s insane. I’m glad Minhyuk and Peniel get to shine on kingdom since Btob songs are very vocal driven. Well if you have the time check out their live stages they hit different. Also they are super well known for being good entertainers too
I remember when Minho called Taemin a “MONSTER” saying that he got all of their characteristics (4 hyungs) since they’ve been together for a really long time. Which I also believe happened with the skills as well. Taemin once said in a magazine interview that during their rookie days he thought that in SHINee he has to “survive” because all the hyungs work hard so he has to work just as hard. I know that Taemin is a VERY TALENTED man by nature but I’m sure SHINee hyungs played a part into his devotion to his artistry.
key and jonghyun from shinee also have truly an amazing solo discographies, their sound is so fresh and enjoyable, doesn't even sounds like 'k-pop' music for me. I highly recommend 'face' from key and 'poet|artist', 'she is' albums from jonghyun. and shinee's music as a group too, especially their last repackage album and 'the story of light'
The first comeback shinee did for this year: dont call me, got good views. Streams i guess right now are also hyped with ads/promotions. But atlantis and the latest song were promoted really short since the group is really busy with the concert, taemin's own concert/album and other activities. Ohh love btob too, older generations have the experience and the long training.
SHINee's View MV has a storyline! The girls are fans, and they kidnapped the guys for them having fun for a while. They agree, having this time of being normal-non-idol guys. But they still are idols, so when the girls try to do something more, they (at least Onew) stop them. Fans are fans, so the line can't be crossed. At the end of the mv there is sirens, that's when they realize that is time to go home, because there is people looking for them (like yeah, a whole bg was kidnapped ofc there would be people searching where they were lol)
One thing that is important to know about 5HINee is that Taemin is where he is thanks to them. Tae didn't have any solo lines at debut and he worked extremely hard to get where he is now. Being in one group with two of the best vocalists in the whole industry while not being able to sing properly because of his super young age at debut is crazy and all 5 of them deserve all the love and attention and recognition of their endless talents💖
So glad you are loving BtoB, they are criminally under appreciated, by internationally fans especially, and they debuted in 2012, the same year as Exo, and they have one of the best vocal and rap lines in the industry…they’re also a bunch of crackheads, but that’s why we love them…and it was funny you mentioned how emotive they are during Sungjae’s scene cuz our maknae’s a whole actor, been in several dramas, and is so good
Just check out SHINee's concert versions of their old songs.... You'll go crazy listening to them. They have one of the best vocals of kpop, especially Jonghyun. And Taemin was actually trained by jonghyun and onew.

ahhh thank you so much for this reaction!! not gonna lie, i've been hyped for this since the last patreon request haha yayy btob! the crush on minhyuk is a mood man haha. btob's vocal line are kinda like mamamoo's, just to give you an idea; it's not one or two that have the vocals, it's all four of them (and the rappers too tbh). they have hUGE ranges, their harmonies go nuts, and all are just overall powerhouses, even when clowning. they also won immortal songs once, and eunkwang one time himself too! i hope maybe you'll see some more live stages of theirs someday, they sound so much better than their already amazing studio tracks! and yesss shinee finally!! the oldest was only 18 when they debuted, so they're all still pretty young! and yep, they're all absolutely phenomenal vocalists; onew actually has a record in kpop for holding a note steadily for around 45 seconds! they are absolutely monsters live too, so it'd definitely be awesome if you eventually check some stages out! they always sing live w/ very minimal mr no matter the difficulty of the choreo (comes from training singing and running together haha) ah damn do i miss exid... their older japanese mvs have slowly been releasing on youtube, though unfortunately not any new group stuff (*sighs*). oh and yep, the beginning part is a sample, i believe! fun fact: solji even has to slightly lower the key of the chorus of this song to be able to sing it while dancing cuz it's just so extremely high (apparently exid tracks have even gone to a whistle range f6 before!) oh and L.E is the name of the rapper, as well as the producer of the majority of exid's songs and tri.be's! she was also an underground rapper predebut, and yes you're correct that she helped train hyuna :) oh no i think i got carried away, i apologize for the lengthiness of this (probably half incoherent) comment! thank you so, so much for the reaction again, though, i'm excited for more to come! hope you're having a really great day :D

I honestly think most people who watched Kingdom developed a crush on Minhyuk if they didn't have one already. Btw the group Kingdom had a comeback a couple of days ago and it's awesome. Also there's this new group called Just B, that recently debuted. I think you would love their B-side track, Get away. Bang Yongguk from B.A.P produced it together with the title-track, Damage.

When Shinee released their new album when Min-ho, Onew,& Key came back from the military, there were 4 MV's released: "Don't call me" ; "CODE" ; "Atlantis" ; & "Heart Attack". All really good! BTW, if you want to try kdramas, HWARANG was the 1st I watched in 2016. It starred V from BTS, Min-ho from Shinee, Park Hyung-sik from ZE: A, & Park Seo-joon who will star in the next Marvel movie.
So glad you are finally doing SHINee songs. There are some explanations I would like to do in terms of the views of their "Atlantis" MV on RU-vid. Actually with this comeback they only performed on 3 music shows for 1 week as their schedule was crazy. So there were not many promotions for this song as this song was the title for the repackage album. Usually the company hugely promotes the title song of the main album (which was "Don't call me") but not the title song of the repackage album. Hence less exposure to the public and less views. So if you check their "Don't call me" MV, you will see that MV has much more views than "Atlantis". And I also believe popularity in South Korea is not properly reflected in the views on RU-vid. For example, some groups are not that popular in South Korea and doesn't get much attention but they are popular among overseas fans and get good views on RU-vid. With SHINee's comeback for "Don't call me" album, it was a huge huge success in South Korea and they won 6 times on music shows but this is not reflected properly on RU-vid views. I believe this is mainly because newer Kpop overseas fans do not know about them or does not even want to know about them..which is quite sad cause they are unbelievably talented individuals and they are still crazy popular in South Korea. Being this popular after 13 years since the debut is very very rare in South Korea as there are hundreds of new groups coming out each year. This shows how special they are...I really suggest you do more reactions to their songs. You won't be disappointed. This comes from a fan who has been through all the Kpop generations...
If you know a little back up story of Shinee and Taemin, he actually once said and he had to practice so much to keep up with the other members as they were so talented, they protected him, teached him and took care of him as he was the youngest. Being in an idol group is a LOT of work, and as groups get more successful the individual members have other options to make money that are not as much work. So, for a group to stay together after the members hit 30, that is special. It says that they really want to perform music together.
You mentioned that the MV for Atlantis seems expensive. It was. You have to understand that newer groups trending more than older ones does not neccessarily mean they bring more money to the company. SHINee are one of SM's top money makers to this day. The money they bring in through concerts is crazy. Another great example of this are 2pm. They are also a 2nd gen group that debuted a few months after SHINee. Up until the end of 2017 when all the members enlisted and they went on a temporary hiatus, they were still JYP's biggest money makers. JYP himself admited that. And yet they were not JYP's 'trendiest' artists at the time. At that point in time Twice and GOT7 had more hype than 2pm. Same with SHINee. They may not be SM's 'trendiest' or 'most hyped' group atm but they still are probably in the top 3 (definitely in the top 5) in terms of bringing money to the company. So of course SM will in turn invest in their releases. And you mentioned that you expected them to be older in View: when the Odd album was released the 2 oldest members were barely 25 yo and Taemin was only 21. And at that point they were 7 years into their career. They debuted very very young. Taemin was only 14 and Jonghyun & Onew had barely turned 18 when they debuted. Minho and Key were just 16 at the time. PS It baffles me that we've come to think of 20 /million/ views as "not many". We're talking about millions. Millions. And when we see 20M we're like "oh why doesn't this have more views". It's sad if you think about it.
Well, 2 of BTOB's members are theatrical actors, 2 of them from very good music university. all of them have tried acting before, oh.. maybe Peniel doesn't have? but he's expressive also. so no wonder they are very expressive in their performance.
As a SHINee fan, it's the opposite for me everytime i see ONEWE on twitter I pronounce it as Onew-wee and then i realise they are not talking about Onew (facepalm) Looking forward to more SHINee reactions! Since they are an experimental group there ought to be some songs that are not your taste and that's okay, I personally do not like Ring Ding Dong. It was such a big hit in 2009 though, i wasn't even a SHINee fan yet back then, but shops were blasting that song until it was stuck in my head.

the plot for view mv is that they kinda fake being kidnapped to escape from the media & stoplight a bit, the girls in the mvs are girls who helping doing that (the storyline is very vague here but they have Japanese version of the mv that show the storyline more), the editing of the korean version of the mv kinda made it seem they were kidnapped by fans and them used this opportunity to escape the media & all that. Also yes view was the first deep house kpop song & this song along with f(x) 4walls made that sound popular at the time. glad you liked both songs

I love three groups and in my opinion of the best groups ever live. also don't mind views of shinee mvs lol most of the fandom either have university or are grown-ups with jobs/even families so they aren't that much interested in streaming that hard. Thank you for the SHINee content!!! Hope I'm not too late to hype up SHINee more. Honestly, Taemin is (with his love for music and aesthetics, passion in performance and meticulously handpicked songs) is because of his SHINee brothers who shaped him up as he is today. You can never go wrong their 100% chemistry and teamwork. I can proudly say Taemin is in his best when he's with Onew, Jonghyun, Key and Minho.
In therms of MVs kpop just has "phases", the outdoor MVs and the set heavy MVs are coming back back and forth a lot. For sets, the most famous ones had to be what fans call "SM box". If you watch SM 2nd gen groups' MVs from between 2010-2012 you will see what I mean lol.
forgot to say that view mv is a bit vague-ish because of editing they want to give the illusion that they were kidnapped but from what I remember there was another version of the mv that show more of the story that basically them escaping the fame life for a while away from everything & yes sm/ most kpop mvs for years was just this box type mvs and there was a shift by 2014 with more groups started to do have an outdoor mv filming
The concept of view is that SHINee is tired of being idols so few of their loyal fans pretended to kidnap them and they together enjoyed their time. You will find SHINee protecting their fans like when Minho(the eyebrows) will be hit with a bottle because he was protecting fans from bad guys in the club. Also you will find then running away from the supermarket, this is because they saw them appearing in the tv and dint want anyone to recognise them. In the middle of the mv they see cos and so they run away from them. Also, at the end you will find taemin sad and can hear police siren. This may mean that the police found them at last. I found many people wondering what it’s about. Even I dint understand at first. So I just explained it briefly. I just found your channel because of SHINee and I hope you react to them more.
