Damn, Patrice saw just about every movie and held a photographic memory of it. I remember every line from TMNT from 1990 to this day but will forget what I got up for 2 seconds ago.
Tmnt the first one was pretty damn cool I love how New York looked gritty. If that movie had Danny elfman composing it, it would’ve bn a way better film. Solid movie tho, I’m a huge fan of the 2003 tmnt series.
Patrice had good taste. Good eye for movies. Texas Chainsaw was fucking terrifying. The bit when Leatherface jumps out of a bush and saws the guy in the wheelchair in half is nightmarish. As an aside I was at trade college with a guy born with no cheekbones (treacher collins syndrome) and we used to call him Leatherface lmao.
I agree, saw it last night (the original one 1974), and Tobe Hooper does a great job of creating an atmosphere of uncertainty and angst in the beginning of the film. Not to mention that Leatherface character is fucking crazy Evil !
That moment when Leatherface is like running around the house... after he kills one the guys and then just sits down and the camera slowly focuses on his face and moves in slowly... and Gunnar Hansens eyes are just awesome. He was really creepy as Leatherface.
@murray1234567891011 I dont think exorcist really holds up nowadays. Still a great movie, classic horror film, but doesnt really age well. Texas Chainsaw for sure still holds up and always will.
I'm a huge horror fan, but most of them fucking stink. They've become too predictable and don't rely on atmosphere, like Patrice said in this clip. Paranormal Activity especially, I remember watching that with some friends after it came out on DVD, and I predicted every "scare" in the movie as they played out. The movie's biggest scare, where the guy was thrown into the camera and she screams into the camera afterwards, was put in the fucking trailer! Who does that? Patrice hit the nail on the head with Texas Chainsaw Massacre: I wouldn't really call it a scary movie (it depends on who you ask), but the atmosphere of the whole movie is so intense that it lasts with you after the movie's over, hence... horror. Texas Chainsaw Massacre to me, is one of the few legitimate horror films ever made. Tobe Hooper and John Carpenter are two guys who really get to me with their movies.
I’m not religious, but the first 3 Omen films bother me in a way. Video games give me more jump scares than films. The part where the Licker jumps through the magic mirror in the interrogation room in Resident Evil 2 will always make me jump even if I know it’s coming. Silent Hill 1 and 2 make me uneasy throughout the whole thing like The Omen films.
The exorcist is the scariest movie ever ever filmed... Go back and watch the news reports and news articles... It was a phenomenon that hasn’t been duplicated yet...
The Exorcist becomes much scarier once you know that it's based on a true story (or rather, true reports) and even more so, the behind-the-scenes aftermath for all those involved in the production.
I think the Blair Witch Project is actually a really good Horror movie... I'm not sayings its perfect. But too many people go into it thinking that there's supposed to be some big, spooky ghost/witch that will pop out and be in the center of the screen at some point. But thats not what the film was ever going for. It's about the fear of getting lost in the woods and believing that some unseen force is slowly coming after you like a curse. Imagine being lost in the woods, going in circles for days, hearing strange sounds in the night and waking up to weird things lying outside your tent every morning and each night things get progressively worse until you eventually go insane with fear.... That's what its about.... If you don't like it then that's fine but it doesn't suck. It just doesn't work for you because you can't imagine how scary that situation actually is. If you ever got lost in the woods (even if for a few hours) then you might actually begin to appreciate it...
Nah People wouldn't give a fuck about the movie if it wasn't found footage and "oh my god this might be REAL". that was all the hype and the movie is fucking boring if you go back and watch it again now. but maybe you like the movie thats cool
The best horror movies get under your skin by creating atmosphere, twisting your expectations and make you imagine things to be worse than they are. For example, Texas Chainsae Massacre, Alien, Psycho and The Shining aren't overly violent but you can sense and imagine the horror.
The thing about horror movies or horror games, you HAVE to let yourself be invested and get scared. If you're going to play the tough guy, "oh this shit doesn't scare me" act, then you're literally robbing yourself from the THRILL of this kind of entertainment.
thanks i'm gonna watch that again. another good one was frailty, bill paxton. i think i'll rewatch that too. dunno why i reply to year old comments lol
@@balladofthebroken7569 literally just watched sinister last night hahah i was thinking about this comment. all good films you say. have you seen frailty? might watch that tonight
@@ijustwannaleaveacommentony6511 Yes, I watched Frailty about 3 months ago & enjoyed it & found it having a similar vibe (partially due to the fact it came out around the same time period) as films such as Seven or Stir of Echoes. Also, speaking of Sinister - the director of it Scott Derrickson just released The Black Phone. It was excellent & you’ll notice some elements of B P that are similar to Sinister I.e. grainy 8mm film footage + with a haunting score.
That scene from the original Texas Chainsaw was creepy, not really scary! Paranormal stuff never scared me, not much movie stuff scares me as an adult. Some things creep me out like some scenes in The Shining. I remember fighting sleep as a kid after watching some Nightmare on Elm. I'm so calloused now that I tell myself that I'd beat the shit out of a Freddy or Jason or a paranormal sprit
I was relating to everything you said. I saw “the grudge” when I was about six years old. Front row. It fucked me up for a while. I actually had a dream where I just fist fought the monster And I never had any nightmares again 😂
I’ve watched the exorcist at least 15 times, one of the best written movies ever. It was scary the first three times… after that I fell in love with it. Funny thing it wasn’t supposed to be a horror movie in the first place it’s all about the priest losing his faith.
Paranormal Activity doesn't hold up at all. I'd say Blair Witch holds up a fair bit better since they at least actually roughed it in the woods behind the scenes. There really is that visceral "fuck the woods" thing going on there. Paranormal Activity was just "how much money can a movie make without leaving our Californian House?". It was a brilliant grift of a movie. The main girl is hot in a coworker-y way too. Bizarre
I remember being so disappointed by Paranormal Activity. Everyone kept saying it was the scariest movie ever, the hype was unbelievable. Then I watched it and it wasn't scary at all.
I already made a Patrice video of him talking about Alfred Hitchcock on vimeo. But I think you could do it better. Would you be able to make it? it's like a 5 minute clip.
Blair Witch Project 2012 is an awful comparison. Blair Witch Project is great. Paranormal Activity is hack studio crap. Blair Witch was an extremely innovative, minimalist, indie project that worked remarkably well.
Scary movies has to be the dumbest genre. Don't get it. Never will. Same shit with Holloween. I get wanting to dress up, but making shit scary is just like... why? Whole thing has to be a psy-op
Love this guy even more now. I remember saying how much the movie sucked when it first came out & had so many cretlns giving me crap for stating that fact but Patrice is merciless lol
The excorcist? The first one ? Only movie ever to scare me … they over did the makeup… otherwise it was creepy! And the music used to come on the radio daily!!!! Shit !!
Man, The Grudge (2002) spooked the shit out of me, with the spider woman sliding down the stairs making that creaking sound. Before that, the only movie that really got to me was The Haunting (1963), spoiler alert for a decades old movie, when you realise you're watching someone going insane it makes the movie terrifying, really great performance.
I'm the same as Patrice on supernatural shit. Stuff that doesn't exist isn't scary. Anything with ghosts or demons just seems stupid to me. Scary to me is Joe Pesci in "Goodfellas." Real evil.
Sounds like he just didn't get horror movies. To say the Exorcist was crap - that's the gold standard. Just not his vibe I guess. A shame they didn't go into Evil Dead - maybe he'd have more to say about those.
@Burnintreez321 Blair Witch kind of suffered from over-hyping. It's the kind of movie I wish I could have seen on TV at 1 AM, alone, without knowing anything about it. Then it would have been like a gut-punch.
Opie literally did everything in his power to F this bit up and the sad part is that he doesn't even realize he's doing it he thinks it's great radio when he opens his mouth and cuts everyone off
