Sylvester James, Jr. better known as Sylvester, was an American disco and soul singer-songwriter. Known for his flamboyant and androgynous appearance, he was often described as a drag queen, although he repeatedly rejected such a description. Responsible for a string of hit singles in the late 1970s, Sylvester became known in the United States under the moniker of the "Queen of Disco."

I'm younger than you so Sylvester already had established dance classics, but I learned his history later as a record collector and watching Rupaul and PbS give props. This song is permanent etched in my head from the party scene in Trading Places I watched many times in the 80s. Had to play it for my GF just now for her first time.

I had a 'somewhat' similar experience. Was at a place with scantilous ladies dancing. The song that was playing .. basically sucked.. the girls were not into dancing, the clientele was like whatever.. I go to the DJ and ask to play this song. NO JOKE. as soon as it came on.. everyone, literally, everyone, was dancing. I think we played it like 5 times. Had a blast 🎉

Yep. I saw the movie today. This song is played for about 5 minutes which rarely happens as they usually play a minute or two. This song ships me back to the 80's in Toronto Canada which they dj played frequently in clubs.

If you were ever lucky to see him live ... he was really a powerhouse . I saw him at Haymarket in the late 70's . What a night ! we went back stage to his dressing room to say hello . He was very gracious

There was so much coke going around that nobody but nobody sat for even one second…non stop on the dance floor- lines went around there as well. I'm light years away from that behavior now but hey we like to visit very now and then on youtube

Here from the movie Agent Argyle. This song is phenomenal! It plays during a fighting scene on a train at the beginning of the movie and it gave me goosebumps to hear it because up until that point, I didn't know the song but it sounded absolutely amazing and I had to look for it. +ernestine maloy - I knew Sylvester..and YES..he meant FUCK. You can still believe in god all you want and STILL want to fuck someone in bed and be proud of your sexuality. In today's world..Sylvester would have probably called himself Transgender..because he was all woman from head to toe. But back in his time..he did the best he could..until that terrible virus killed him. So don't put words in my sisters mouth. Don't act stupid. I was a young amateur dj in the early 80's. What a blast on the dancefloor when that song came out. It didn't take 3 sec. from the start to get a full dancefloor. The same was with Ronny Griffith - The best part of breakin'up. I realize today how my teenage in the 80's was blessed !

Got a copy of this 12” single from the modern jazz dance teacher at my high school. What a class with over 25 girls I was one of 3 boys in that class and the only straight one. First class of the day. I wasn’t late very much to that class nor did I skip it very much either.

I’d like to let it be known I knew about this wayyyy before Argylle. GTA EFLC introduced me to Sylvester and Patrick Cowley I had to be 18 but by 19/20 when I started college I dived deeper into house music and Sylvester specifically. Miss my early 20s

I first heard this song when I saw the film "Longtime Companion" when it aired on TV PBS I think in 91. Very early in the film a brief snippet and I was hooked.
