Patrick was very famous at that point of time,he destroyed Indian batting line-up in the one day series held after this World Cup......very terrific bowler 🔥
Wet outfield meant slippy boots, the boots had a leather sole back then so he would have slipped and possibly damaged an ankle or ligament from a full run up.
@@MrDanallman I don't think that was the reason. This was match 18 of the 1987 world cup, played at Jaipur. Only the surface of the outfield would have been damp due to dew as there had not been any rain. The runups and wicket area would have been hard and dry, and Patterson was wearing spikes. Also there is video on YT of the 9th match played at Lahore ("1987 World Cup Pakistan vs West Indies MATCH 9") and Patterson is bowling off the short run up there too. In that match the WI bowled second so any morning dew would have burnt off. There was no mention of wetness in the coverage and the ground looks bone dry..
Was thinking the same.. Did hear the commentator say that the outfield may have been damp.. Probably that's why.. The little shuffle he did in the beginning to gather his momentum was interesting to say the least😅😅
