I never quite understood that. Fire underwater, water underwater? Like, they have entire bodies of water under the ocean. Fire is just the first problem with SBSP's logic.
I'm convinced there is a small portion of Patrick's brain that is highly intelligent, and it's constantly at war with every other stupid part of his brain, trying to take full control and only able to reveal itself every once in a while.
“I don’t see where you’re going with this- hey, a dollar!” Smart Patrick’s brief moments of confusion are what allows the dumb parts of his brain to take back over and remain in control. The brain coral prevented this confusion, in addition to increasing his intelligence, which is why it was so persistent. Unfortunately, the brain coral also made Patrick more egotistical (which could just be a side effect of prolonged intelligence)
If i remember it right, when Patrick become smart ep. There's some part in his brain a chain of gear wheel to be exact, it's full of spider web. It means he didn't use his brain at all. And sometimes it's moving. So he literally smart, he just never use his brain.
Yea, then they tried to be funny for the next generation, it didnt work... I was born after season 1-4 was released but I watched the older episodes as a kid
Out of all the criticisms of new spongebob, this is the one I have to disagree with. Patrick was always dumb. It’s just in the old seasons, he was dumb in a slightly more subtle and humorous way than the immature dumb of the newer seasons
Normally Patrick when he's mad, he actually becomes more intelligent than what we give him credit for. Like he somehow magically shows high intelligence for a brief moment then when he calms down, he's just back to normal self
Not always like that to be fair. He also becomes fairly more intelligent when he calms down and is having his own cool down moment, trying to be serious enough to solve problems that Spongebob or others have. I still remember his brilliant idea to move the city to another place, that was unthinkable.
I miss this Patrick. He WAS smart back in the good old days. Before they ruined him. Hell, he was smart enough to talk SpongeBob through his boating exam. He even said, and I quote, “Thinking straight is what I do”.
@@AlffovinniHe's worse than a doofus. He's a goddamn dumbass. Like the typical anime protagonists. The kind you mostly see in shonen. But of course they have to get rid of decent intelligence like he and Spongebob USED to have and make them into brainless morons! Cus of course rhe smart one always means the boring one. The nerd the geek the social retard. that's why they're always portrayed as losers. like with Jimmy Neutron and Dexter from dexter's lab. It's meant to encourage people NOT to be smart. Not to be nerds. Besides, this is America. And of course, you don't need brains to get ahead in America. You just need to be popular. Just look at typical "big time" politicians. Most of them aren't smart enough to tie their own shoes. Yet they rule over us peasant folk like gods.
@@Alffovinni I recommend the show Gargoyles because Patrick's voice actor plays Broadway, one of 5 main characters. That character is basically a smarter Patrick.
@@averageytperson8861 bro when i saw your comment i thought you were arguing with me because my wifi is poor and the thumbnail of the video didn’t load yet 🤣
The statement Patrick said about the dollar bill is probably the smartest and truest thing he’s ever said cause it’s 100% true no one would know the difference about the dollar bill.
0:52 2:24 It's impressive how proper body language can completely change the way you look at a character. I mean, at the core Patrick is a shirtless pink starfish with goofy ass pants and yet animators were able to convincingly rebuild his character without lazily adding new design elements (be it nerd googles, lab coat or something else)
I have a theory; Patrick isn't dumb, he's just a devoted stoner. He smokes so much pot that his brain typically doesn't function properly, but once in a while it kicks in and he has an epiphone.
@@nitro5247 exactly. It also explains his favor for shorts and Hawaiian patterns, it lends to his "beach bum" look. And his astounding laziness, his insatiable appetite, his generally relaxed demeanor, and his encouragement of and participation in Spongebob's immaturity.
Squidward: I never thought to do it like that Patrick: Well that is because you rarely think I knew Patrick was smart but I didn't know he was a Savage
I've always loved that roast in that episode. Also, in the same episode when he tells Sandy, "I'm *merely* suggesting you lack the ability to solve remedial equations." and "I'd use a more sophisticated word like 'impaired'."
One of the more underrated SpongeBob roasts. The fact that it's a post-movie episode is probably why people overlook it, but Patrick SmartPants was great overall.
@@a.armanhaver6684but the thing is Sandy knew 100% what he was saying, he’s not that much smarter than Sandy just have an ego lol which Sandy herself can exploit
1:45 I actually sometimes hold my pinky out when holding a small cup. Its just comfortable that way. My dad thought it was funny when he noticed I do that and explained how 'high society' teaches their kids to do that. I was just doing it 'cause it felt natural.
I know why Sandy hates Patrick so much because when his intelligence is not stagnant. He can do complex equations, problem solve, & teach a specific talent or field in a short amount of time. This goes to show how Patrick posses tons of experience. Perhaps surpassing Sandy's genius to second best. But since the show can't have both geniuses. Patrick lays low. After all HE is a Starfish and they do live a LONG time. We can only speculate...
No, that episode is where Patrick had an accident and the top of his head was replaced by a brain coral making him smart. That is the reason he was able to solve Sandy's equation.
@@bondocena6654 But even so other than Sandy's equation some of these episodes are irrelevant to the brain coral Patrick does possess the capacity to surpass Sandy's intellect.
funny thing is, Patrick smarter means he's more arrogant and inclined to his overall emotions, like his low impulse control leads him to have lower patience to tolerate Squidward's incompetence.
@@bondocena6654Does the writing on the blackboard relate to anything or am I right to assume it’s just random expressions. Also what’s a remedial equation?
@@makssachs8914Patrick wasn't saying remedial equation as a concept in math. Remedial means very basic. He was saying Sandy lacks the ability to solve basic or simple equations. Essentially he was saying she's stupid.
I’m convinced that Patrick is actually a genius scientist who ran away from the government for inventing something essential to all fishes that concerned the fish government. Thus, he created himself a new character who’s dumb to hide his identity.
This would make a good plot for a spongebob movie :D And in the end he says something dumb and everyone again thinks it cant be and he is just dumb. Oh yeah would be a nice movie. Would even invest some millions so studios make it
Yeah I miss when he was dumb, naive and a little childish to match with Spongebob and had his occasional moments of intelligence and was more of a "chill dumb" instead of completely dumb and childish (like the punchline of every episode he's in is just him causing the main conflict in an episode because of his stupidity or he completely acts childish)
I think Patrick is the perfect representation of the world in which he exists. The world of Spongebob Squarepants is usually nonsensical; it’s a show about a talking sponge who wears pants and lives in a pineapple. Having said that, Stephen Hillenburg was an actual marine biologist and it shows in the weirdest and least relevant aspects of his world-building. Kevin the Cucumber’s “crown” being an actual part of his body (specifically his feeding tentacles). The way clams swim around by “flapping” their shell. Goo Lagoon actually representing what’s known as a brine pool. Spongebob isn’t meant to be taken seriously, but in specific instances and for no apparent reason, it legitimately can be. I think Patrick operates on that same logic; he’s not an intellectual, but just like the world in which he lives, he occasionally demonstrates actual wisdom towards whatever he’s talking about. I think he kind of just reflects the spirit of the show as a whole.
Better yet, Patrick is actually really gifted but adopted a slow and naive persona to either escape a lonely miserable life as a scholar, or he’s extremely lazy by nature and figured it’s easier to just live a simple life alongside his 2 neighbors.
To be honest if he was smart like that from the episode Patrick Smartpants it’ll be like so officially minded with excellent vocabulary, peaceful sympathy, and encouragement.
I wish SpongeBob were there to stay longer when Sandy called out Patrick on his intelligence, I found that moment so satisfying when Sandy kicked him out
These scenes reminds me the first season, in wich he wasn't stupid at all, he was just a little navie and childish, but still was able to think and even be civilized. But since the second season to date he just became dumb and dumber.
This reminds me of when Cosmo from fairly odd parents used to be slightly more intelligent in the oh yeah episodes and in season 1. But then afterwards, he just kept getting dumber and dumber in subsequent seasons.
@@santanajohns5816 Thats because SpongeBob was suppose to end at the movie but Nick said nope. So new writers were brought in and show is no longer the same.
0:35 proves my point that Patrick has a part of his brain that is insanely smart. Like Sandy type smart but the rest of his brain is just dumb af and only resurfaces his intelligence on rare occasions
I love how several of these scenarios have Patrick saying something smart and looking good but then immediately blows it by acting oblivious the next moment.
People are always saying squidward is the best SpongeBob character as they find him to be the most relatable character and whatever….and while I’m afraid to admit they are not wrong Patrick will always be MY favorite SpongeBob character! And this video is a perfect example as to why
Squidward is only relatable to people who hate themselves and take their issues out on everyone else. I feel really sorry for them. Patrick is far more relatable because we're not always the brightest, but we have our moments.
@@abdullahibouraleh6919 spongebob himself has some relatable moments like that line in the episode patty hype "i have a good idea and no one else thinks so!"
@@abdullahibouraleh6919dudes got depression and cPTSD and still holds down a job and has a serious hobby all while being tortured every episode. Now that's a character I feel for.
Patrick goes from smart to instant dumb like "what Plan?!" And 0:52 that's the episode that he falls off from a cliff and got his head replaced with another one that made him extremely smart and arrogant that even Sandy doesn't like him.
Perhaps Patrick doing an act that I call “the smarts of acting dumb”. What I simply mean by this is by acting dumb, nobody really pays attention to you, or gives you difficult tasks to do because you’re seen as dumb. This allows you to do more mediocre tasks while still receiving a salary.
