So what if Patrick thought Christ's second coming was going to happen very soon? That in NO WAY makes him a heretic. Christ himself is very clear that "Only The Father knows the day or the hour" of His second coming, and that it will come "Like a thief in the night". Christ warned us of this so that we would be always ready in case today or any other day is the day of his coming. So for Patrick to be concerned that those in his care be prepared by living upright lives in Christ is exactly what charity and his duties as bishop would demand. If he had ordered everyone to drink poison, then I would understand why he'd be compared to Jim Jones or some other heretical cult leader. The fact is that Patrick was simply trying to prepare those he loved to be ready to meet Christ when he comes again in glory, which could still come at any day. It would be heretical to NOT act as Patrick did regarding the end of times, because he was just trying to live as Christ commanded.
These people are like the virgins without their lamp oil. That's what is going on. They look at history from their secular lens and not through a Christian lens. If Jesus says, "I'm coming soon!" What should do, be ready...spread the gospel, let everyone know that Christ will come. That's the point of Christianity, Jesus told us to spread the good news!

Scripture and tradition says that Christ would come only after the world has been given a chance to hear the gospel. The ending of this is so silly. As pointed out, Augustine believed the end was near. So did the apostles. So do I. Expectation of the immanent fulfillment of the Kingdom of God is always Orthodox and ALWAYS correct. An amazing thing about the Christian Faith is its ability to let every generation believe it may be the last. So we continually pray, "Come, Lord Jesus." We're quoting Revelation when we do so. Based on the historical records, these people are making some conclusions with very little strong evidence. The assertions made here are absurd. They seem to have an agenda in mind versus backing it up with facts and records. I don't know where they are coming up with this comic book superhero. He was a missionary like many other Catholic priests in history, but he was much more successful.

What I see in this is a protestantized version of Patrick mucking up the real story. The Catholic story is of a man -- like all of us -- a sinner who repented and was greatly used by God. Full stop.
Yeah, not quite. If you start with the facts and work your way from there. Best not to trust anything relating to history OR Ireland in general that is written/edited/or printed in Ireland. You will always get a contrived, spun version of the truth. Basically if you reverse everything the church tells, you may be on the right path. E.g., Patrick- Or as he was born, signed his name and died, PATRICIUS did not rid Ireland of the Snakes, there were none when he was brought here as a child slave of Irish Pirates/Raiders nor when he returned as a Missionary, bringing "god" to the "godless", he did however, hold the door open for them, not just to Ireland herself, but to every single home in the land. But Patricius was quite literally only getting revenge for what was wrought on him as a child. The true demon of this story already has a tight grip of the minds and hearts of every single Irish Catholic in Ireland or without. That demon is the Church. Don't believe me? The Norman Invasion of Ireland shortly after the battle of Hastings in the 12/13th Century were indeed sent by the then CATHOLIC king of England, but the DECISION to invade was not his, he was simply doing his "catholic duty". The Church decided, just as they did for England, that any remaining non-Catholics in Ireland would either Kneel to the Catholic Cross, or they would Kneel to the CATHOLIC SWORD, if the latter, the population would be replaced with Catholic settler families from Britain/Normandy. So when you meet an Irishman/woman with a not-so-Irish sounding name, his names' lineage in this country will only date back so far. And now you know why.
OK, so 800 years from now are we to say the same of Mother Theresa, or should we just deny what we know is fact about her? I am not even Catholic, but I am not so quick to discount everything that has come down through the ages by word of mouth. I don't think that Patrick was a heretic. I think it's ok to differ in end times views and still be an orthodox Christian. Certain far right sects would differ to the point of schism, however.

The revisionism in this film is laughable. The only heretics involved in this are the makers and contributors to it. They didn’t even have the decency to start the film with music from an authentically Irish instrument. Very weak scholarship throughout. Rubbish.

Actually sir we don't worship saints we merely look up to them as they've lived holy lives like we should all aspire to, that's why many of them are martyrs. They were strong in their faith. Also saints are men and women. We worship the holy Trinity usually with Jesus as the main point of the trio emphasized as we are actually his original followers. Now you know! God bless you.
